Broncos Sign Former Patriots Cornerback Marquice Cole Ahead of AFC Championship Game

The Indianapolis Colts pulled a trick out of Bill Belichick‘s playbook by signing wide receiver Deion Branch last week. It didn’t work out so well. The Denver Broncos are hoping for better results with the same move this week. The Broncos signed former New England Patriots cornerback Marquice Cole on Tuesday. The signing comes just one day after Broncos cornerback Chris Harris Jr. was diagnosed with a torn ACL. Cole, 30, has spent most of the last two seasons with the Patriots, recording 32 tackles, one forced fumble and one interception in 27 games with the team. He served primarily on special teams while filling in as depth in the secondary in 13 games this season. After being released and re-signed multiple times by the Patriots this season, Cole was finally released for the final time on Dec. 26 ahead of the Patriots’ season finale against the Buffalo Bills. The Broncos’ secondary stymied Philip Rivers during the first half of their divisional round matchup with the San Diego Chargers on Sunday, but the second half was a very different story. Without Harris Jr., who suffered an injury in the third quarter, Rivers torched the Broncos late in the game, including two fourth-quarter touchdown passes to wide receiver Keenan Allen. Cole likely won’t fix the Broncos’ secondary deficiencies, but he will at least provide some depth to a defense desperately in need of some.

Kraft lauds Belichick: This might be Belichick's best work

New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft lauded Bill Belichick on Tuesday, saying he thought navigating through an injury-marred season to the brink of a Super Bowl berth might be his coach's best work yet.

Mike Lupica Podcast

The Patriots owner Robert Kraft commends Bill Belichick for what may be his most "outstanding job" as head coach this year, and says this team reminds him of 2001.

"This is his 14th season with us but I really think this might be his most outstanding coaching job," Kraft told ESPN New York Radio 98.7 FM. "The way these guys have stepped up, 'Next man up' so to speak, has just been unbelievable.

"Of course, having [Tom] Brady at the helm -- you think about it, your quarterback touches the ball usually 70 times in the course of a game; low 70s, high 60s. So you need someone with good judgment in that position who also understands how to manage the clock, what's going on, and how to adapt. So we're lucky to have that position filled at such a high level. And I think we're lucky to have a coach that understands the game and pays attention to detail, and also adapts to whatever the situation [may be]."

Kraft also shared his thoughts on this year's Patriots squad, which has overcome season-ending injuries to key players -- Vince Wilfork, Rob Gronkowski, Jerod Mayo, Tommy Kelly – to reach Sunday's AFC Championship Game against the Denver Broncos.

"This team we have now reminds me of our '01 team," he said of the first Super Bowl championship club of his ownership tenure. "It wasn't the biggest names or collection of stars. It was a team that had a certain mental toughness and truly played together as a team. ... I think this year the sense of team and putting team first is at the highest level. We've learned it's not the teams that have the best collection of talent, but it's the teams that really come together, especially in December and January."

Tom Brady not spotted at practice on Wednesday morning

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was not spotted at the start of practice on Wednesday morning during the media availability portion of the on-field workout.

The reason for Brady's absence is unclear, as is whether he will take part in any portion of Wednesday's practice. A source told ESPNBoston.com's Mike Reiss that Brady is "good and will be ready for Sunday."

Brady did not suffer any apparent injury during the team's game against the Colts on Saturday night, though he was sick throughout the week last week.

He has been listed as a limited participant with a shoulder injury on multiple occasions since late October, though Brady has not missed a practice this season.

The Patriots moved Brady's regularly scheduled Wednesday news conference to Friday morning.

He was one of two Patriots not seen at the start of practice, as long snapper Danny Aiken, who was also playing through illness on Saturday night, was also not spotted.

Meanwhile, the Patriots did have punter Ryan Allen, who left Saturday's game with a shoulder injury, on the field. Allen suffered an AC sprain, according to sources, and the team is hopeful he can rehab the injury this week to a point that he is good to go on Sunday.

Finally, wide receiver Aaron Dobson, who was injured in Week 17 and had not practiced since that time, returned to practice on Wednesday as he continues to work through a foot injury.

So,I guess Moreno is product of Manning, according to Stephen A...even though he played very well in his rookie season....with 947 yards and 7 td's with 9 game starts that year....

He will probably play on special teams...

:hmm::hmm::hmm:

come on ansatsusha_gouki:hmm:
you know what the broncos are doing:hmm:
they are doing the samething that the colts did last week by picking up patriots deion branch:hmm:

It's going to get to the patriots can't cut anybody, because someone will hire them just to get the play book:hmm:

so It seems the patriots are only team with special team players for the week of a patriots /broncos game

They are moving Champ back outside and Jammer/Carter will play the slot from what I understand.....

And how are you going to criticize the Colts and Broncos for signing former Patriots ,before the game, when the Patriots does it all the time themselves...

It's going to be damn near 60 degrees and sunny on Sunday so if you were hoping to see a "Cold Game" Manning, you will be disappointed.

It was just announced that in practices( yesterday and today) DRC and Carter are playing the corners and champ is playing the slot.
jammer is nowhere to be seen:lol::lol:
come on denver! give jammer a chance:D:D

Keys to the game for the Broncos

1.Turnovers...The Broncos can't turnover the ball against the Patriots and the Broncos defense needs to take away the ball like they did in the first game.

2.The running game....The Broncos defense needs to stop the Patriots running and we must established the running game like we did in the first game.

3.Third Down...The defense must get off the field on third down and the offense need to convert on third down..

4.The Weapons....Julius Thomas wasn't in the first game, but we must give the ball to Moreno,Ball,JT,DT,Welker and Decker in this game.

5.The secondary...The secondary must stop the big plays in the passing game...

6.Need to be aggressive....I don't know what it is,but whenever we have a big lead the offense and defense get conservative...I don't understand why we do that all the time....It makes me sick watching the defense playing zone, when man was working for most of the game and then run the ball for three straight downs and punting to the receiving team.....We can't be conservative against this team....:smh::smh:

7.Adjustments....Gase and Del Rio need to make in game and halftime adjustments, because Belichick will do it in this game...

8.Pressure...The defensive, particularly the defensive linemen need to pressure Brady or its going to be along day for the defense...

9. Penalties...We're at home and there shouldn't be a reason why the defense and offense are making stupid penalties..

10.Dictated the game....We must dictate the game for all 4 quarters,if we do this we should win the game

this is the only game the white boys discuss around these parts.

fucking racist homos. :smh:

i hope they get destroyed by colin in the super bowl.

you should be!!
you have everything in your favor....(home field, good weather, altitude, point spread, actual wide receivers.......etc.)

Everything was in our favor also in the 2005 AFC Championship game against the Steelers and we didn't even fucking show up to that game.....

Im ready, but worried, because I have no clue how the team will response......:smh::smh::smh:

Aaron Hernandez can't watch Patriots

If former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez wants to know the score of Sunday's AFC Championship Game, he'll have to hope he overhears it from an officer or a fellow inmate.

"He's not allowed to watch any TV," Bristol County Sheriff Thomas Hodgson told The Associated Press on Friday. "As far as finding it out, if they hear an officer talking about it, they might find out that way. He could probably hear about it if some other inmate were to call home and he were to yell out."

Hernandez was part of a potent tight end tandem for the Patriots, combining with Rob Gronkowski for 106 receptions and 16 touchdowns in 2012. But he was released by the team after being charged in June with murder in the shooting death of Odin Lloyd, a 27-year-old semi-pro football player. Hernandez has pleaded not guilty.

Police are also investigating whether he was involved in a 2012 shooting in Boston that left two people dead.

Hernandez is being held without bail at the Bristol County House of Correction in North Dartmouth, Mass., under "special management," a classification that allows him only three hours a day outside his cell. He isn't allowed out at the same time as another inmate and he isn't allowed any TV, Hodgson said.

The sheriff said there are currently four inmates in the eight-cell unit, and they can talk through their cell doors. Hernandez is also allowed telephone privileges, but not necessarily around game time.

Other inmates in the prison get two hours of television per night, and they usually choose to watch sports, Hodgson said. "Even they won't be able to watch the two games," he said.

Because Sunday's game is at 3 p.m., they will probably catch the end of it during their regular window of 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Should the Patriots beat the Denver Broncos on Sunday and reach the Super Bowl, general population inmates would be able to catch the first 90 minutes or so of the game, which is scheduled to kick off at around 6:30 p.m. ET.
