I recently spent a month in Asia. I only visited one country.
What I learned is this:
Asians are far more socially evolved than Europeans, and, it goes without saying, Americans (Latin and Northern up to Canada).
Fucking with China economically is a suicide mission. There are more Chinese than any other single ethnicity on the planet, and the other Asian nations are far from a joke economically, socially, and technologically. Asian citizens support other Asians like Europeans support other Europeans economically. There are a LOT of Chinese that visit the nation I visited, and they spend a SHITLOAD of money there. So does much of Europe.
Their (Asians, not just one nation, I mean the region in general) elite are actually well educated, and they (China in particular) make electric vehicles that, compared with the offerings here in the U.S., is like comparing a Benz with a Pinto. This is not hyperbole. They charge in less than 10 minutes...well, there are other threads about that here. Believe that shit. It is very REAL.
The aggression that has made itself a part of me since Detroit and the USA in general ripped my soul and body until they bled into one another... was oddly, and extraordinarily pleasantly missing.
Most of the countries I have visited are overwhelmingly Christian, and usually Catholic (Christianity on steroids). They are all oppressive and violent, at various levels. Most are incredibly safe by U.S. standards. Buddhists, it seems, are strangely non-confrontational. I still have not gotten used to this bullshit here in the West since my return.
I rented a condo for a week in a beach town. 8th floor, balcony, 1 br, washer dry in unit, kitchen with utensils and dinner ware, fully furnished with excellent AC. With taxes and cleaning fee, cost me $160 usd. I had a view of the ocean, and after being there a few days, realized I paid too much.
WTF is the point of this long winded soliloquy?
1) If you are Black, I strongly suggest you get a passport if you do not have one.
2) If you have one, I suggest you find a way to use it.
"Passport bros" bullshit aside, it felt really good to be in an environment where white people are NOT running things. Asians have their own issues with oppression and racism, as does ever ethnicity on the planet. However, I NEVER felt discriminated against by the native population (other than due to the fact I was a foreigner). The only consistently racist assholes were white folks, the vast majority from Eastern Europe, Australia, and the Middle East. EVERYBODY else was generally cool.
I met Black Americans, a Black man from the UK, and a chick from Canada, all living in Thailand, and apparently loving it. I didn't see too many black folks (other than West Africans) in Bangkok, but saw more in Pattaya. I have heard there is a sizeable Black ex-pat community in Chiang Mai. I want to go and verify for myself asap.
No, but I did go into several other streets just like that in Bangkok.
If you saw the original Blade Runner movie, the set design was clearly based on Bangkok. Big, greasy, never sleeps, everything and anything for sale, with hardly a hint of the threat of physical violence.
I was literally physically assaulted by African hookers in the Soi Cowboy area.,, They LITERALLY grabbed me as I walk by, more than once. Look it up.
Those clubs are not my cup of tea. Once in, you are pressured to buy drinks for the bar girls, usually at a higher price than for patrons, to get them to sit and talk to you.
The blowjob bars are what really blew me away though, no pun intended.
Try finding grits in Thailand. Or Costa Rica. Or Panama. Or... you get it, I am sure.
I agree about the customer service is MOST places I have been, but not in Thailand. I was actually stopped by the courtesy shuttle operator at the hotel, who insisted I visit the desk in order to get a huge umbrella for use when I decided to take a walk in the rain one day.
The second room I had in Bangkok was really a studio apartment. It had a clothes washer in the room, a kitchen with all needed materials for cooking, including a stove top, full size fridge, 4 bottles (GLASS!) of water and instant coffee DAILY, and the option to have the room cleaned daily. Cost: $43/day. It was on the expensive side.
Imagine what it would have cost in Chicago or New York...
How would you know, you’ve never left your basement you pedophile supporting faggot ass transexual. People who actually travel know your comment is bullshit from somebody who has never been anywhere . Dumb ass American talking about other countries not fucking with Black people. When America is run by a racist NaziWhich Asian country? Some don't fuck with black people like that.
Can you name any major black political or influential figure in Asia? How would you know, you’ve never left your basement you pedophile supporting faggot ass transexual. Your troll game is weak and stupid as fuck. Please let us know a country in Asia that took slaves and has a heavy Black population. You Dumb bitch. Can you name any major black political or influential figure in Asia?
this would make so much money in Atl. Imagine a BJ bar and grill with hookah
I love Thailand. Chaing Mai, Bangkok, Patong(least favorite) and multiple islands. One thing you didn’t touch on is how good and healthy the food is. I am confused with your description of their technology. China is ahead of us but Thailand isn’t.
Whereabouts in Asia?i will actually be going there next Summer.
ThailandWhereabouts in Asia?
Interesting about BAD customer service outside the US?
WOW.
You want REALLY bad service?
Go to Panama. The most beautiful girls on Earth, and the absolute worst customer service in restaurants and bars I have ever seen. Outside of Detroit.
^^^^ thank you for sharing such dope insights
But can you expand on this one specific part?
WOW... I never been to EITHER place. But I always ASSUMED that the States had the lowest form of customer service!
Can you give me a specific example I am VERY curious!
UPDATE: a quick google and you are RIGHT!!!??

I need you to chime in!
I was sitting at an outdoor cafe in Panama City, talking to a gringo I met while out wandering. My Spanish SUCKED at the time, and I was eager to have a conversation with an English speaking person.
During the course of our talking and drinking beers, I ordered a Guiness. The waitress left the table, stopped to talk to a busboy...for about 10 minutes. I got her attention, shrugged in a manner to let her know I wanted my Guiness before the next day. She literally waved me off with an annoyed look on her face and resumed her conversation. A few minutes later, I went to the bar to get my own damn Guinness.
This is just one incident I recall, but I DO remember complaining A LOT about similar incidents.
China is a significant trading partner of Thailand. They have Chinese made electric sedans and SUVs that ACTUALLY WORK, charge fully in less than half an hour, and have a range of 300-500 miles.
I was surprised by that too. Can you give your personal experience?

They are ALL OVER Bangkok. You don't see them here due to the 100% tariff.
BYD
WTF? how is tipping in other countries?
Just the ones you can personally speak on. Like did you tip THAT particular waitress?
You KNOW I didn't.
Thailand, Costa Rica, and Panama are NOT tipping countries. However, if you leave a tip in Panama (most gringos do) it is appreciated. I was warned by other Americans not to tip too much. Literally giving someone a dollar tip could make that person's day.
I had a maid in Costa Rica that came to my apt once a week. She washed my clothes and linen, made the bed, swept, washed any dishes. I paid her $4 per week. Mind you, this was about ten years ago.
Tipping in Thailand, and China, from what I have heard and read, can actually be viewed as an insult in some circumstances.
Don't hold me to this, but that is what I heard from talking with others who have visited China (I only pass through the airport, so cannot verify this).

Let me preface this by saying this is a personal opinion.
I offer the following anecdotes to support why I feel this way.
First, I felt nothing resembling fear walking the streets of Bangkok at 3 a.m.--beggers are there, but not aggressive.
The men are not aggressive.
Beautiful ( I mean RIDICULOUSLY beautiful) women will actually smile or speak to you in passing on the street.
Older people are REVERED. There are rules for the bowing you see them do. A younger person always bows in a way that shows deference to the older person he/she happens to addressing.
They don't argue and quibble the way we do. I have had people apologize to me because I almost walked into them while clearly not paying close enough attention to where I was going.
They are extremely polite, sometimes to a fault. I KNOW damn well I was getting on the night clerk's nerves at the apartment where I was staying. She blew my apologies off as nonsense, and repeatedly assured me that there was no problem.
This same clerk gave me directions to the hospital (I saw a doctor twice while I was there, and a dentist as well). When I returned from my SAME DAY appointment ($40!), she rang my room and asked about my health as well as my experience at the hospital.
I broke a crown while there, walked into a dental clinic about 45 minutes later. The assistants got the dentist, who was working on another patient, to actually order an x ray, examine me, repair (temporary) my broken crown, all within the span of about an hour. it cost me less that $80.
I NEVER felt that the natives I interacted with were treating me any differently because of my appearance. I am very large, and of mixed (Native and Black) heritage. The only people who were consistently rude were the Europeans (mainly Russians and Poles), the Arabs (what else is new), and the West Africans (I had to actually rip hands of my chest while walking past a few "freelancers" at one point, and the men approached me repeatedly trying to sell me dope).
There was a tuk tuk driver who offered me a ride every day for a week. I declined, opting to explore on foot. When I moved to the apartment I eventually rented, I hunted him down, and arranged to have him pick me and my luggage up. The trip was 200 baht. I gave him three. He literally gave me a bear hug, saying "you are good man".
Make no mistake, I was expecting to face racist bs quite often; I assumed most Asians to be racist.
I was wrong, and least with respect to the Thai.
Funny thing is, ALL of the Asians (even the Japanese, who spoke neither English nor Thai were generally polite, and willing to help if they could, with ONE exception: Koreans.
I don't know if this makes sense to you, but during the course of a month, in two cities, I NEVER had even ONE unpleasant exchange with a Thai. I had to tell and arab to fuck off twice. Russians look at you as though they want to reinstate slavery.
The Thai are cool.
Hope this makes sense. I feel like I am in prison now. I want to go back. Badly.

I second Bangkok and Thailand. I also went to Koh Samui. Cost of living it really low. People are super nice. Well, the native population.
When I went there were a bunch of Russians that were annoying as fuck as long as white people from all over that act like they own everything.
Also recommend Singapore.
White people don't run shit there. And it's the first place I've ever been where being Black didn't come with negative stereotypes. I didn't see another Black person the entire time I was there lol.
I was waiting in line to get enter a restaurant and the white man at the front of the line was not being allowed in because of the dress code. He was trying to do the whole "white people asking for the manager" bullshit. They told to to step aside and kindly greeted me and let me in.
Lots of pretty women there that are slightly thicker than normal asian women.
I definitely want to go back.

Bruh the dress code wasn't even crazy. It was a high end restaurant and you just had to have a shirt with a collar, no shorts or sandals. Dude was trying to get in weraring workout clothes and t-shirt with the sides all out.Are their a lot of dress codes there?
Are there any etiquette tips you can share?
