I recommend to everyone who still uses a house phone to get the new ones that screen calls of folks not saved to your call list. That kills a great deal of the scammers.
My mom who passed about a year ago got got...... these foreign born Greek mofos drove past her one day, circled back, befriended her saying that they knew my deceased dad...... and it was off to the races..... by the time family found out..... they had cleaned her out, her taking a second mortgage on her house, lost it, and opening up credit cards at the mall jewelry stores with her buying $15k watches and nothing could be done cause she herself opened up the credit cards willingly with no distress visible..... sales woman thught the guy with her was family.
Five years from retirement, Adnan Siddiky thought he had finally built the life he came to Canada for. Instead, he and his wife say they’re out hundreds of thousands of dollars in what they now believe is an alleged investment fraud.

Agreed. Been keeping this in mind for both of them respectfully in the years ahead.
Got a client at work who lives semi-independently. He's been a friend of mine since the late-2000s who is older now. He got taken advantange of by fraudulent friends and a love interest back in the day. Ever since I found out about that, I've kept an eye on his bills and banking, looked over statements with him, and have his support worker's number to call IF I suspect anything shady going on. He's had a few brain injuries over the decades (carbon monoxide poisoning in the 80s and a stroke that left him hospitalized for 2 months in the 2010s).
My dad informed relatives to monitor the finances of one of his aunts in Seattle back in the 2000s when she was in her 70s and being preyed upon. He also had a serious talk with his parents about being careful in the late-80s or early 90s as they got taken advantage of by a door-to-door salesman selling overpriced vacuums. They bought one off of him for $1500 - 1700 because he was a "nice man". Dad told them the guy was likely canvassing the neighborhood and scanning houses to see which ones to potentially return to and rob in the future.
They got robbed back in the 60s when dad was around 18 or 19. 2 dumb fuck CACs broke in and stole some shit. Dad woke up and chased them down the street ... caught up with one of them who was hiding under a parked car. Pulled him out and beat the shit out of him.
I told my parents straight up that nobody from their bank or IRS will call them directly to tell them their account is compromised. If they get a call like that, simply hang up and call a legit number to check on their accounts.
Scammers, thieves , pedophiles, rapists should all get death. Bet all that shit other than pedophilia drops dramatically when your life is on the line. Pedos are a mental disease so they can’t help themselves which is why they should all be put in gas chambers immediately . No trial no rehab
