A Dutch child-rights organization has opened my eyes to a new form of child exploitation. This video is safe for work but will hurt your stomach.

Watch how they gauged the scale of the problem with a 10-week online sting using the help of someone named "Sweetie."

Very powerful video LS, it is very disturbing. I need to research more, but the video raises some disturbing questions:

While there are these sick predators around the world (mostly Western countries) stalking these children, what about the predators within the Philippines themselves (using the video's example)?

The video mentioned that these children are being paid to chat with these men, to disrobe, and to perform sex acts on camera. Who is profiting from this? How are these kids getting access to the computers/internet/chat rooms? Who are the people within the Philippines that are abusing these kids and getting these kids online to be exploited? That was not discussed. Is it some crime syndicate?

I hope that it is not the parents of these children who are pimping out their own children because the family is in poverty and they see this as a way to earn needed money. I do not have children, but it makes me angry. It makes me even angrier that the internal sources within the country is not being looked at. While it would be hard to track these anonymous predators internationally, it would be easier for these governments to track the networks within their own countries.

I wondered the same thing Noir. It is indeed extremely disturbing and I hesitated a few times before even watching because I knew my blood pressure was going to go up. However education is definitely a must and I watched and well you saw the video....
My initial thought was if they are targeting the impoverished that would mean that some one or ones are supplying the demand.I was actually mad that they blocked the faces because they NEED to be fully exposed since that is what they like.

The thing is in this day and age where these kids can handle computers better than most of us it definitely makes it very difficult. As a parent I try to be very vigilant where the www is concerned and this is a perfect example as to why.

Peace

True, LS. I don't even know where kids go online to chat, etc., anymore and if one thinks that kids primarily still use Facebook, they are already behind the times. Internet crimes across borders are too nebulous and difficult to prosecute, based on who has jurisdiction to prosecute and getting the cooperation of the other government (just look at the US trying to shut down downloading sites located overseas).

The best way to proceed would be to eliminate the supply, if there was no supply, these predators would not be able to look for these children.

Interesting video LS, I'm of the mindset that pedophile cases would drop dramatically if parents stop sheltering their children from the realities of life. If you love your children you have to prepare them for the real world that awaits them and the internet is part of that world.

There's been numerous adults that have been victimized meeting strangers they've met on the internet. Now imagine a naive child at their computer looking to make friends. When we think that our kids are beginning to develop a curiosity about sex we talk to them and (try) to educate them. The same even more so should apply to the internet.

This project by the dutch is a great start but IMO you cannot depend on outside agencies to protect your children. The pedophiles are out there and their online everyday looking for some child to victimize. So my thinking is you must talk to your children. There's no stopping them from using the computer its what children live for.
