A Texas family has filed a lawsuit against Arby's and the store's franchise owner following the recent death of a woman who was locked inside a freezer.

The woman's four children are seeking at least $1 million in damages, claiming Arby's and the Turbo Restaurants are guilty of negligence and gross negligence in not fixing the freezer door for over nine months.
The woman, identified as Nguyet Le, 63, was found dead by her son inside the freezer around 10 a.m. on May 11 at the Arby's in New Iberia, La.
According to the lawsuit, which was filed by Le's four children in a Harris County District Court, alleges that a latch on the freezer door had been broken since August 2022 and the store franchise owner and regional manager knew about it and didn't fix it.
Employees say they had to use a screwdriver to open and close the freezer door and often used an oil box to prop the door open. A former employee says he personally showed the broken door to the regional manager after August 2022.

Investigators reported that he inside of the freezer door "had been bloodied, leading him to conclude Ms. Le panicked once locked inside and beat her hands bloody trying to escape or get someone's attention," according to the lawsuit. Eventually, Le collapsed into a fetal position face down on the frozen floor.
Tragically, it was Le's son Nguyen who found his mother's body when he arrived around 10 a.m.
The business owner should go to jail.

$1 million really does seem low. I wonder how wealthy the business owner is. $10 million would be totally reasonable— Their earnings should be garnished for the rest of their lives, at least, if there is no imprisonment.
