SUNRISE, Fla. (WPLG) - A mystery surrounding hundreds of missing cinnamon rolls worth about $3,000 has apparently been solved.
Julie Pierre, the owner of Roll and Dough Bakery in Sunrise, Florida, initially believed an Uber courier had stolen 300 cinnamon rolls she was sending to a farmers market. Her story went viral on social media after she reported the rolls missing last Saturday.
But it turns out the courier never took off with the order – he was arrested by U.S. Border Patrol.
A Border Patrol spokesperson identified the courier as Ivan Dario Rico Molano. He was arrested last Saturday during a traffic stop in Hollywood, according to the agency.
“When he [Molano] was pulled over by Border Patrol, they called a family member, and the family member was able to pick up the vehicle,” Pierre said.
Sunrise Police later found the missing cinnamon rolls still inside their containers in Molano’s car. They were returned to Pierre, who threw them away because she wouldn’t want to take a chance on anyone eating them.
“It’s a little insane. Very crazy,” Pierre said.
She says Uber fully reimbursed her for her loss.
A Border Patrol spokesperson said Molano, a citizen of Colombia, admitted to being in the United States without legal authorization. Records indicate he entered the U.S. legally in May 2021 but remained beyond his authorized period of stay.
