80's Music Acts (And Their Knock-Offs)

True but then again Marlon was in the J5 with M.J. and most of those Prince knock offs played in his band at one time.

You can't be a "knockoff" if you were down with the movement from the beginning . You were just less talented. Jay-Z was down with Jaz-O...he sounded just like Jaz at first, same flow, same style....was he a knockoff...no. Marlon didn't make ANY music like Michael...let's be clear. As far as Prince knockoffs...who exactly are you referring to?

freddie jackson was the knock off

I disagree....Freddie Jackson was just a continuation.

As far as imitators, I cant forget about Rockwell...Not only did he bite MJ's signature voice, but the adlibs as well

I disagree, these 2 groups were apples and oranges

The Bangles had a lead singer in many cases.

In Bananarama, all 3 girls sung the lead (singing simultaneously).

The groups vocal arrangements were different from one another.

Even R.Kelly jumped on the Bobby Brown Blueprint, before he bit Aaron Hall

"Do I look like a donut?....So then why you wanna glaze me?"

Wow... R Kelly straight up stole Bobbys whole shit

Wow! R. Kelly's been a shark nigga since day one. He's talented but has he ever done anything original?

That WAS Michael Jackson on the hook! Rockwell has Berry Gordy's nephew; that's how Mike got on the song.

correction to the correction...mj did rockwell a favor singing the hook the song..it was done behind berry gordy's back because rockwell didn't want his help.

Chess records made this song and completely rips off the motown sound rather than a group or singer specifically..

from the bass and/or drum groove intro (which was a signature the funk brothers did on motown songs) to the way it flows if you didn;t know better or weren't paying attention you'd think this was a motown song...and many did/do.

Hilarious! I'm just trippin off the name...The Boys Next Door. Sounds like an SNL skit. Could barely get thru 30 sec of the vid.

Pure hilarity.
If New Kids on the Block were the Beatles then Guys Next Door would be the Monkees.:p

This was the New Jack Swing Era. Everybody had similar sounds
Wokie produced this Christopher Williams track...
Gene Griffin & Bobby did don't be cruel....Gene was Legit New Jack too

Gene did not, I repeat, DID NOT EVER do ONE note of ANYBODY'S music. Gene couldn't play triangle if you handed him one.
It was Teddy primarily. And then Bernard, Dinky and Mucho.
I was around 80-90% of all of those sessions and trust me, the only thing Gene ever did was make sure nobody fucked with the bread. (Cause he was stealing all of it anyway) .
*We used to crack up when photographers wanted a picture of Teddy and Gene in the studio. He would always grab a knob on the mixing board and cheese, like he knew what he was doing. LOL*
