8% Of Android Apps Leak Your Private Information

According to security researcher Neil Daswani, 8% of the apps in the Android Market are leaking private data.

Daswani's security firm Dasient finished a study of 10,000 Android apps and fond that 800 of them were communicating data about the user to an unauthorized server.

This is a malicious effort to spread malware so that others can gain root-level control of your device.

Once someone has root control, it's as if they own your phone. Eleven of the apps tested were sending out unauthorized text messages, the mobile version of email spam.

The solution to the problem is unfortunately quite easy -- Google just needs to step up regulations on what apps make it into the Market. It doesn't need to be as tough a process as Apple uses, but a few basic security checks are certainly warranted.

rooting is not widespread in android, unlike other mobile's our phones do more and we only root when we want to add certain enhancements. i just went from a rooted droid 1 to a non-rooted droid 3 and i don't miss root.

and a lot of things leak private info, facebook, sony, some websites etc...it's the world we live in, know what u have and where to and not to put it and u will be fine.

it's like how some ppl r jailbreaking and getting their phones taken over with a text message or anything or even a pdf file...those seem more dangerous.

The problem is these are ANDROID MARKET APPS..

0% of IPhones run Adobe Flash. Besides that's what anti virus/anti spam programs are for.

there are other companies apps that do things to and suddenly get caught as well.... no company that uses APPS is free of problems, except for blackberry and palm....

..the problem is, this article is not talking about other companies. Its about the Android Market.
