A former high school basketball star has been accused of raping and sodomizing an 18-year-old woman.
Jacob 'Jake' Walter, 18, was arrested on Tuesday in northern Kentucky's Boone County, outside of Cincinnati, on charges of first-degree rape and first-degree sodomy.
Police say that the attack took place on Sunday, when the former All-State basketball player for Covington Catholic allegedly dismissed the woman's insistence that she wasn't feeling well and didn't want to have sex, and pinned her down and raped her until she bled.
The victim pleaded with the seven-foot tall, 300-pound Walter to stop, and was fearful of him due to his 'due to his size, strength and aggressiveness', according to a press release from the Boone County Sheriff's Department.
Walter dismissed the victim by laughing at her and telling her that she would be fine,' the police statement continued.
Investigators say that Walter held the woman down and pulled her hair while he attacked her, and that the assault continued for some time.
In a court hearing on Wednesday, prosecutors said that the victim was able to alert her mother, who found a way to get Walter to leave.
'The victim told her mother and made an excuse on why he needed to leave, giving her an opportunity to call the police,' the prosecutor said, according to WCPO.
The victim and her mother alerted police. A medical exam revealed bruises and lacerations on her arm, breast and anus, police said.
After leaving the victim's home, Walter called and texted her repeatedly to say he was sorry, according to investigators.
Walter was a standout player for Covington Catholic before graduating in the spring of 2018, averaging 11.3 points for the Colonels and earning an All-State designation from the Lexington Herald-Leader.
He committed to Xavier University in Cincinnati, where he was offered a scholarship, but never enrolled in the fall for reasons that are not clear.
Xavier's only comment following Walter's arrest was to confirm that he did not attend under scholarship.
Court records indicate that Walter was charged as a juvenile in May with domestic violence, but the charge was dismissed and the case was sealed.
Walter is the son of Joe Walter, who played thirteen seasons as a tackle for the Cincinnati Bengals, from 1985 to 1997.
The former NFL star now owns a small advertising company in northern Kentucky.
On Wednesday, Joe Walter was present at a court hearing and visibly emotional as he heard prosecutors graphically describe the allegations against his son.
The younger Walter appeared at the hearing via video link from the county jail, where he was dressed in black-and-white striped prison clothes.
Walter, standing seven feet, was too tall to be fully visible on the video monitor at the hearing.
Walter is currently being held at the Boone County Jail pending bail of $250,000.
He is due back in court on Monday.
