You're right MrFreddy, it has been with the help of US and other's $$$ -- but it appears that the Ukrainians have put their own lives on the line against a supposedly superior force and appears to be holding on, thus far.

NATO is just not some social club for countries to hang out and have fun. It is the expansion/proliferation of nuclear weapons. We need to get involved because they will sacrifice us in a minute to Russia to protect Europe. Land that was stolen and will be overpopulated in their minds by inferior races making them a minority.
The U.S. invaded a country that merely aspired to have WMD. What if Iraq or Iran decided to join a defense pact with a nuclear armed country such as Pakistan or India. One country stock piles 10,000 weapons, would the U.S. accept that? Yes, Iraq or Iran would not possess nuclear weapon but their joint defense pact could cause India or Pakistan to use them in their defense.
Once part of NATO Ukraine could than develop its own nuclear weapons without interference from Russia. NATO could do nothing to stop them.
