Hip-hop is how old now? Over 40 years old? I think it’s time we start speaking of the genre in terms of decades at this point when it comes to impact, imo.

What Em was doing when he came out wasn’t the same as LL, Rakim, and the rest. Just like when Jeezy and Gucci hit the scene with trap music which was a byproduct of crunk music. And now all this crap today is a byproduct of trap music.

So Em didn’t have more or less impact than the OGs. He was a product of the time. He didn’t change the culture, he just help the genre expand to a much larger demographic of people. That’s what Def Jam was trying to do when they was crossing over with DMC and Aerosmith. They just didn’t hire a white boy on their label. But Dre did. Lol.

That’s the thing.. jay in multiple diff decades doing things in and for hip hop.. em came in late 90s had a run..than kinda fell off the map and than made a return.. jay was doing things b4, during em run, during em falling back, and when em came back.. just off consistency for hip hop jay get the nod.. than you look at the spins off from what came from their involvement.. jay spin-offs win.. rihianna and Kanye alone is big and it literally still ring bells in current music.. who doing the superbowl half time this yr? Who was the most controversial figure in hip hop last yr? Hell can we talk about the sneaker culture alone from Yeezy who is a jay spin off

I stopped following Jigga after mid 2000s. So whatever he has done since then, I wouldn’t know from a hip-hop perspective. I just know that his tracks are still played. I don’t hear Ems tracks at all.
