(DETROIT) - Detroit Police are confirming the body of a young girl found in a burned out home on Waverly Street is 5 year-old Mariha Smith.

The young girl went missing Sunday from a home not far from the vacant where her body was found.

The DPD Homocide unit said the family and the prosecutor's office have been notified.

Mariha went missing between 3 a.m. and noon Sunday from the home of her aunt, Quanita Smith, who lives on the 3800 block fo Burlingame on Detroit's west side.

DETROIT - A federal agency is offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the death of a 5-year-old Detroit girl who was found strangled and burned.

Mariha Smith Case: Person of Interest Arrested

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WJBK) - Hours after Detroit Police Chief Ralph Godbee called out the community, an arrest was made in the murder of five-year-old Mariha Smith. The same day the little girl was laid to rest, police took a person of interest into custody.

The arrest happened Friday afternoon. Family members said once they found out who was taken into custody, a person that they know and with whom they have spent time, it seemed to hurt even more.
