5 things no one tells you about owning a used luxury car

If your trying to buy a honda or a nissan its good to buy Brand New or Used.

Cars are horrible investments.

If your buying luxury cars, Its better to lease for a couple of years and trade in for a new one. You will save thousands on Repairs.

I lease a 2014 Mercedes Benz and it feels good to drive and not worry about repairs, The Dealer Pays for everything even Tires and Oil, (The Dealer throw in free maintenance) because i had good credit.

Your going to buy a $95,000 Dollar Car and in 5 years its only worth $14,000 is not a good look.

I picked up a BMW 3-series at a local auction for a couple of hundred $'s.. Mainly needed a new clutch, radio & one of the power window motors was burned out. I dropped a new clutch in the next weekend along with the radio, new window motor & an oil change. Then drove it down to Va Beach (8 hours round trip). No issues, AC was ice cold etc.

I get that point of view. But how much are you paying in the 5 years to not own anything at all?

I co-sign this article...
much lower cost of ownership than buying any new or 2 to 6 y/o used Japanese or US car. Do some homework on the msg boards, etc... and if you get cool with a shop get the hook up to get your parts directly from the parts supplier - in NYC that means Bosch or OEM parts at Honda and sometimes Ford prices, with same day delivery to where ever you want it (shop, home, ya boys garage) COD or credit card... and above all else follow a preventive maintenance schedule and KNOW your car read the manual!
no car note, cheaper insurance, and a better ride than 90% of new cars on the road.

Down side is if you drive a good to mint condition Benz BMW or Audi, everyone thinks you you have extra money to waste or something

Well I don't know where he is coming from with it's easy to do, he must be a mini mechanic, the problem with luxury cars are they are built to be a hassle to the common man, I remember two instances on my 2000 Infiniti, when me and a friend were replacing my brakes, we had to get a special tool to fit on his socket wrench to screw down my piston on my brakes:hmm: then when my alternator went out the damn alternator sits above a plate, it was a pain in the ass to remove and put back then I had to get a magnet to slide a screw through the holes built on the car and the alternator it's self :hmm: add to that had to remove my radiator to get to it and add more radiator fluid because a lot came out trying to remove it. Then still had to go to the dealer to have them put on this special lug nut on the car that we couldn't get because we could only lift my car so high, 141 dollars to put the the lug nut on plus an oil change:hmm: I think the shit that gets me is I have a 2000 Infiniti it should not be so damn expensive for every damn thing, but that's what you get when you get a luxury used car, expensive parts, issues due to there is a damn sensor for everything, and requires oil/ parts hand made by virgins in the Himalayas, higher insurance. I think once I get a better job I will get a better Infiniti, but currently I want a challenger, it's american easy to find parts, and shit will not be complicated to fix by Jose

I have completely different experience owning Benz e and s class(2000, 98) and helping my cousin on his 5 series (97) and 3 series (2001) BMWs - a side from using allen wrenches and a special tool here and there - very easy to work on -especially if I'm following video instructions or a write up from Benzworld or Bimmerfest. I've stayed away from turbos and air suspension - but I think I might take on air suspensions after I do a little more homework

If your mechanically sound you can do basic repairs on your luxury car

I changed out the airmatic rear suspension on my R class.. Good thing with that is it doesn't have struts in the back only airbags

Shit is easy to change out.. The brakes are easy as well.. What most folk don't know is basic maintance is easy as hell to go on luxury cars, it's the complex shit like the transmission and engine I don't fuck with like changing the cylinder heads..

Electrical I stay away from as well..

Plus I have an Indy mechanic who specialize in nothing but bimmers and benz

Air suspension is a piece of cake

Luckily my r class don't have the full airmatic suspension.. On the 09's and up the airmatic only came in the rear to self level with the front

MB wanted $500 per bag smh, I copped the arnott for $150 a piece

a lot less than it costs to own and maintain a depreciating asset

Honestly ownership of any new car is more cost effective than owning a used luxo even if you don't have a car note on the used luxo. The repair cost alone of a catastrophic failure dwarfs the amount u pay over 3 yrs of a car note on a new car

this. but you can't tell that to the "I deserve this car bc I'm a Dr" etc types.

those German cars, namely benz and bmw, are the worst! they depreciate as fast or faster than American cars for 3x the upfront costs.

and your repair frequency & cost is even worse.

not true... even if you lose the engine and or tranny - a used one from a part out or a wreck is very affordable - of course this doesn't apply to AMG tuned or similar engines cause those are harder to get.
Electrical was the major issue for me until I found an automotive electrician through a friend. These guys can pull the electrical schematics on any car make repairs and do almost any programming for a lot less than the dealer

Also what I wrote above doesn't apply to a vehicle you pay more 10k for - ideally the purchase budget should be less than 7k

Breh be quiet benz and bimmers are more reliable now than back in the early 2000s, 90s or 80s

I get that point of view. But how much are you paying in the 5 years to not own anything at all?

It doesn't matter if i own it, within 5 Years it's not going to be worth anything anyway's and if its out of warranty I'm going to spend thousands on repair and maintenance.

When your trying to buy expensive luxury cars, Its better to lease because you don't have to worry about costly repairs and maintenance which can be in the thousands. New Brakes on a Benz cost anywhere from $800-$2000 Dollars, and that's just brakes image when your suspension goes out?

I remember when i bought a used 2006 benz, I had oil leak and suspension problems and the mechanic wanted $6,000-$8000 Dollars to fix!.

I Rather pay the $499 a month i pay for the 2014 Benz with no Problems and headaches. If your trying to buy Luxury.

Leasing is not for everybody, i would only recommend it with expensive cars that are worth shit after you buy it.

If your trying to buy say a honda accord or Camry, I would say buy brand new or used because they have a high resale value, and maintenance is very cheap.

I own 2010 Infiniti and I cosign the member that said the repairs are a bitch. I've spent about 5k in repairs since I've had it. My dads an ace mechanic and even he says just take it to the shop. :smh:

My wife's 2010 LS460 is becoming a maintenance bitch. As soon as she finished paying that bitch off in April, she's spent $1200 to fix stupid shit, like trims falling off, check engine light, window stuff etc.

da hell kinda 2014 benz you whippin b?

Im driving a E-Class Benz, and Yes i got TV Rates, Because i got Good Credit and I already had a auto loan on my last benz and never miss a payment. shit i could of gotten a good deal on a S-Class but i don't want to over due it, because who knows, i can lose my job tomorrow and I'm fucked .

You'd be surprised at how they give Benzes away during the "December to remember" sale

Benz's and BMW's are not a big deal anymore, its 2014 anybody with a decent job and good credit can drive a benz. its not a status symbol like it was in the 90's.

All the Ballers move up to Bentleys and Rolls Royces, You got to have real money to drive one of those, payments a month is in the $3,000-$4,000's a month.:yes:

My 2010 R class has been a reliable son of a bitch lol

But then again when the computer says its time for maintenance which is once a year it gets done..

$500 for everything including oil change

Who the fuck stupid enough to do that tho?

Even if I was rich i wouldn't lease a Bentley or rolls i would just buy it out right and keep it until the warranty is up then trade it..

The weekend balls coppin them used 07,08 Bentleys for like 900 to 1200 a month smh

I buy new and when the repairs bills start to get high I sell. I can't lease because of the mileage restrictions.

I've always wanted to know is it wise to buy a 2006 LS 430 from a dealer auction ?

No. Buy it from an owner who knows the car and can show you how it's been maintained. Dealer auctions are good for low mileage newer cars.

I get that point of view. But how much are you paying in the 5 years to not own anything at all?

No he saying if u want to own . Go get some affordable.
If u want expensive luxury. Lease

All my cars are lease. I own 1 luxury car I decided to pay off.

So you buy a new car every 5-6 years ? You should consider leasing. Just pay for the extra miles.

Why shouldn't those DRs deserve it after all their hard work. You also fail to realize that they can afford it and a BMW lease/purchase payment is the least of their worries or expenses.

That's even more stupid to buy and then sell a bentley, You will lose even more money plus it is extremely hard to sell Used Ultra Luxury Car

Deprecation Falls Hard on those Cars. Plus Cars like a Bentley, Maybach, Rolls Royce, Only Rich people can afford to buy them and if they want to buy a maybach or a bentley they want a brand new one with warranty. Nobody is going to buy a used bentley off warranty, Your just fucking crazy. The Repair Bill and Maintenance is a nightmare because with a Maybach and a Bentley you can't go to Joe and Smo Mechanic.

You have to go to the Authorized dealer. One of my IT Friends own his own business and has a Maybach. It cost over $1200 for a oil change and One of his axles cracked and it cost $30,000 to fixed, lucky it was under warranty.
