I just paid off my car car and the extended warranty ran out about 30k miles ago. I'm thinking of getting a replacement plan not because there is anything wrong with my car but for peace of mind. Anyone here have experience with 3rd party extended service warranty companies.

Tried 1 some years back cause the car had something going on and I didn't wanna pay out of pocket. Was reasonably priced. Maybe 100 down and 20 a month. But when I took it to the shop and tried to use it I was told the plan only covered external engine parts and this was an internal part. Or it could have been vice versa but it was some bullshit. I wouldn't sign up for 1 without getting something sent in the mail outlining exactly what is covered. Cause I asked over the phone was the engine covered and they said yes.

Those hour-long infomercials aren’t free to broadcast. However, it looks like their target demographic may be food, so, …

They are a scam and worser than having regular insurance you normally deal with.

They have a zillion exemptions in the fine print to avoid reimbursement of any claims.

See if the manufacturer has any factory warranties that you don't know about.

If it's just 30k then I would call the car manufacturer corporate office not your local dealer and tell them you still want to take advantage of some of the warranty benefits. You have to make your case why.

If your good at telling your story they let you still take advantage of the warranty at the local dealership.

I did this before but I went to the dealership first and they told me they couldn't cover certain parts and that I would have to come out of pocket.

It was some dumb shit like they will replace the part but I would have to pay for all sealants and other accessory parts etc etc. I told them that was stupid asf and I never seen any language like that in the warranty.

Back and forth ensues and he tells me to call corporate about it.

So I did, and corporate said they would cover all the cost for free got all the warranty parts done same day.

That's why I say call corporate first and see what they're talking about.

Yeah my mom got one & it was a pure headache like you said a zillion exemptions & reasons to not payout. Luckily she keeps all her records & takes her car to get all the regular maintenance so she's been able to prove in some cases that the needed repair wasn't due to negligence. But she ended up just cancelling the plan.

Oh I forgot about canceling. They try to make that hard too (no diddy). Tried to tell me I needed to send a letter to an address to cancel. Not just tell them over the phone or even an email which I would feel was too much considering I signed up with a phone call. Luckily the card I used expired that month so they couldn't run it anymore so I just hung up. They still call me trying to get me to sign back up

If you have to get one get one from the dealer. Run the numbers vs how long you plan to keep the car vs local mechanic cost vs type of car.

For instance - if you have an expensive luxury car that's known to be finicky as well as expensive to maintain, the dealer plan is probably worth it.
If you've got a car known for reliability like a Honda, then the plan probably isn't worth it.

Dealer mechanics are used to working on your expensive car while local mechanics say they are, they may not be certified so if they fuck up you're shit outta luck.

Yeah luckily I have a couple of reputable german car shops that I deal with in the DMV & Pa. Not to mention doing a lot of the work myself.

I've only extended through the manufacturer, worth every penny.
THIS!!!! I did the same and 2 months later, took my car in and had 8K worth of work that needed to be done!!!

Plus, w/ the extended warrarty, I was able to get a loaner. I had that brand new loaner for 6 months while they waited on parts for my car.

Like you said, worth every fuckin' penny!

If you can work on your own car and you've owned a bimmer, you already know. Local shops as long as their certified.

Thanks FAM.. ya'll gave me plenty to think about. Ima try the manufacturer and if they don't bite, then I'll hard pass on them warranty companies. I talk with one of them companies today. Salesperson was talking hot shit, when I said, put it in writing and email it to me, he was like.. nah we can only send the contract.. I was like....FOH CLICK!! lol.

Right on.

I need a good repair shop for my BMW when I don't want to pay dealer prices.
The guy I was going to doesn't have a shop of his own but he would normally take care of my repairs. Just got tired of chasing him all over the place to get it done.

I used endurance warranty, the replaced a transmission on my daughter's Nissan, after that I found out the amount spent on repairs will not surpass the car's value. since the transmission was replaced I canceled right away after that. I paid them closed to $500 and they spend close to 5k on the transmission. It worked out for me!

The other thing about old cars and dealerships is they will only service those old cars for a certain period of time.

Usually around 15 years from its manufacture date, they will refuse servicing them because a lot of the replacement parts have been discontinued. After 15 years the manufacturers have completely redesigned or discontinued that model making replacement parts difficult to find.

Usually dealerships will service old cars if you been a loyal customer and have been bringing that car to that dealership since you brought it from them for all its service needs and recalls. They will see the service record in their system.

The catch is they usually have to get parts from old cars in the salvage yard. They will let you know if that is the case before working on it.

It’s why when you go to dealership service departments you hardly never see cars more than 10 years old on the lot.

Never had a warranty in the past cuz I don't them muthafuckaz. I always hear about how the warranty company will try to weasel out of repairs. If I get any warrant moving forward, it will be from the manufacturer, like Toyota or Honda, and not the dealership or a warranty company.
