Exactly 32 seconds after the debate ended, Fox anchor Megyn Kelly began spinning the debate as biased as a consequence of the questions asked by the undecided voters in the audience. Here’s what she said:
KELLY: And the questions! 11 questions asked in all, and some of which will certainly be discussed tomorrow. Topics that we haven’t heard at all in this campaign — equal pay for women, in fact there were a lot of women’s issues discussed…abortion, contraception, women’s pay as I mentioned. Some might argue it was obvious pandering to women because the female vote is so important in this election. Apart from equal pay for women, we heard a discussion about assault weapons ban, a question to Mitt Romney about how are you different from President Bush, and then a question to President Obama, what have you done to earn my vote? The one question on foreign policy by my count was about Libya, and seemed to cover ground that we already knew the answer to: it was who denied the request for increased security. Well, we heard great testimony about that last week, there were State department officials who answered that question. So there will be some questions about those selections, Bret.
Watch it straight from the end of the debate:

Contra Kelly’s implication, State Department cables prove that there was no request for increased security at the Benghazi diplomatic location, let alone a denied one.

Republicans pounce on Obama’s comment that Libya deaths were not ‘optimal’

Jon Stewart said the administration's shifting statements about the consulate attack were not 'the optimal response.' 'Here's what I'll say,' Obama responded. 'If four Americans get killed, it's not optimal.'

Republicans are accusing President Obama of insensitivity about four American deaths in Libya last month, pointing to his use of the word “optimal” during his appearance on "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” as evidence.

During the Thursday afternoon taping, Stewart asked Obama to address the administration’s shifting statements about the attack on a U.S. consulate in Libya that killed four Americans.

Stewart asked whether the administration needs to improve its internal communication going forward.

"Because I would say, even you would admit, it was not the optimal response, at least to the American people, as far as all of us being on the same page," he said.

"Here's what I'll say," Obama responded. "If four Americans get killed, it's not optimal. We're going to fix it."

In an initial national pool report, however, Obama's quote was reported without the context of Stewart's question and his own use of the word "optimal."

Twitter exploded with posts slamming the president — who had also called the attack a “tragic event” — for insensitivity. The response prompted the pool reporter to file another dispatch including Stewart's question.

But by then, the comment had gone viral.

"Obama on Comedy Central: 'When Four Americans Get Killed, It's Not Optimal,'" blared a massive headline on the conservative Drudge Report.

Sen. John McCain also weighed in disapprovingly on Fox News.

"Well, even from someone like the President, who has never known what these kinds of tragedies are about, and the service and sacrifice that people make, it's still just — You know, I can't even get angry. It's just so inappropriate," McCain said. "And I'm sure that families of those brave Americans are not amused."

Obama’s full comment, however, was perhaps his fullest, and frankest, acknowledgement yet of government missteps surrounding the attack that killed U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans.

“The government is a big operation. At any given time, something screws up,” Obama said. “And you make sure that you find out what’s broken and you fix it.”

The appearance was Obama's sixth time as a "Daily Show" guest, and his second time on the comedy show as president.
