$30 an hour is the new poor

That pretty good in Atlanta and a lot of other places.
But our people don't be living within their means because too many of them want things they can't afford.

I also don't blame people for wanting more Hourly wage along with some overtime.

The houses depending on where you live at aren't cheap unless a person want to live in a dangerous neighborhood where houses in that location are cheap to live at. Also, the houses in other countries are cheaper.

Things were cheap back then which is why our parents could survive with less.

You can't expect the same today with prices being high and minimum wage staying the same.

$30/hr is $62,400 a year

That's enough for most of the country.

It's only the super high cost of living areas where that'd be a problem.
That’s before taxes , after taxes that ain’t shit and if you have any sort of bills or utilities, trash, etc you’re poor . You definitely are barely surviving in the Bay Area on that wage.

I forgot to mentioned taxes, people trying to compare back then to now which is ridiculous because back then things were cheap compared to today with things being high and minimum wage staying the same.

If things were cheaper today, then I could see people being able to survive with $30 an hour.

Also, having cheaper taxes would've helped as well.

62,400 is gross.... as a single dude taxes and etc is taking 30%... that takes it under $44,000

After I paid off my car, was going to get a new. A Cadillac CT5 or a Genesis SUV. I was going to test both cars, but it took the Genesis a long time to be released. After 6 months without a car note, I was "Fuck that! I'm good here! I'm going to retire in a few years, why take on a car note?" I told this story in the barber shop, and his 30 something year-old said, "You tripping, unc! I would've got the Caddy! You coulda leased it!". I told him it was still money going out the door." Him: blank stare. Could I afford the new car? Easily, but I was thinking big picture. To be fair, they ain't thinking like us older cats are thinking, but at least they can take in the wisdom.

Gas is nearly $6 a gallon here.

How many 18-25 yr old males are currently making that? If you gave every male that’s making under that the same amount of money how would it improve their situation?.. this is how you have to look at it
In and out burger pays teenagers $25 an hour here. Chic Filet is $22. $30 is not a living wage here. Most people have 3-4 roommates who make that or live with parents

Yeah, when you get older, you become wiser. I always felt it's better to get a car that I can afford with no car note. If I want a better car then I'll just save or invest my money to be able to afford it because I'm not getting no car note for a car that I can't afford which would take years to pay off. I just wished some people listen to their elders telling them these things, so they don't live with regret buying something, or have to return the car or the car getting towed away when they miss a payment.

People in here calling that a poverty wage don’t know what poverty is. Some ridiculous ass replies in this thread.

I'm not saying it's a poverty wage, but mfkrs aren't living good and going on trips or out to eat often. Average rent is $1,500 for a 1 bedroom, $1,700 for 2. That's 18k and $20,400 respectively.

$44k - $18k = $26k for utilities, food, factor in a car & insurance or other transportation costs.

Again NOT poor, but not that comfortable.

But it’s better than poor which would shoot down the argument that 30 an hr is the new poor..it is not

Yeah, it's in the middle which might not be poor but close to it because that's not enough to survive and it's harder for people who have kids.

Also, depending on what city that person lives in because $30 an hour could be the new poor for them.

It still depends on a lot of factors though on how people spend their money as well.

This guy whining that "$27 per hr is not a livable wage" has a $$management$$ problem -- not an $$earning problem$$. There are these things called "budgets" that prioritize one's $spending$ as opposed to spending $$willy-nilly$$ with no plan -- then whining about being underpaid! This fool would still be broke if he made $50 per hr!

Its livable if you don't live in a major city. It's even better if its a dual income home and both make the same.

I'll never forget what my late pops told me when I was 22. He said, "Son, pay your fucking bills when you have the money to do it. Missing out on a night at the club won't fuck you in the future, but not paying your bills will." I'll never forget that. I miss that silly bastard!

You can be on budget and still be struggling. It's the fact that everything is high as shit today.

That's why you got people wanting more overtime or higher hourly wage.

I would never get mad at someone who feels they should get paid more.

Wise words to live by.
