Therapist charged with having sex with 14-year-old

A 26-year-old therapist from Kids Hope United in Lake Villa is accused of having sex with a 14-year-old boy she counseled and she remains in the Lake County Jail today in lieu of $200,000 bond, officials said.
Cori Rivelli, of the 800 block of Milwaukee Avenue in Libertyville, was charged Thursday with one count of criminal sexual assault, police said. She is due in court Tuesday, officials said.
Rivelli allegedly had sex with the boy on more than one occasion over the summer at her Libertyville apartment after driving him from the residential facility at 215 N. Milwaukee Ave. to see his parents in Peoria, said Assistant State's Atty. Mary Stanton.
A staff member at Kids Hope United overheard the victim talking about the sexual encounters to another resident and contacted police, Stanton said. Rivelli allegedly also told a co-worker about the encounters; that co-worker told police, Stanton said.
"Staff at Kids Hope United recently learned of alleged inappropriate behavior involving an employee that is in clear violation of the policies of our organization," said Kids Hope United Executive Director Mark McHugh in a written statement. "We took immediate action reporting the incident to the Department of Children & Family Services and the police and placing the employee on administrative leave."
Kids Hope United is described in the statement as a "private human service organization dedicated to protecting children and strengthening families."
The organization offers prevention, intervention and community-based services in the following categories: prevention services, child development, counseling services, family preservation, youth services and placement services.
