**** 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season: Expecting An Above Average Year ****

I'm making plans to be out of Houston permanently by the end of summer. It is not going to be safe living in this region anymore. With the Houston-Galveston NWS office being almost 50% understaffed, people are going to die behind this. Plus, in the event you're lucky enough to make it through a major hurricane alive, now there's no more FEMA to help you put the pieces back together if your property is destroyed. This country is fucked in so many different ways It's beyond belief.

Residents met with urgent warnings after alarming hurricane season forecast: 'This outlook is a call to action'

NOAA officials say a combination of factors — including a neutral El Niño-Southern Oscillation, above-average ocean temperatures, and weak wind shear — is set to fuel the 60% chance that we'll see an "above-normal" Atlantic hurricane season, according to CBS News.

Acting head of FEMA said he wasn't aware U.S. has a hurricane season, sources say

The remark was made by David Richardson at the conclusion of an 8:30 a.m. daily operational briefing typically attended by hundreds of FEMA staffers and interagency partners. Reuters was first to report the comment.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency said that a comment about hurricane season by its acting head, David Richardson, was a joke

Trump says his administration wants to "wean" states off FEMA aid after hurricane season

The president said his plan is for governors to work with one another and "give each other a hand." "It has not worked out well," he said of FEMA, which was created in 1979. "It's extremely expensive and, again, when you have a tornado or a hurricane or you have a problem of any kind, in a state, that's what you have governors for. They're supposed to fix those problems, and it's much more local and they'll develop a system, and it will be a great system."

Is Global Warming still a chief concern? If so, should we put politics aside and give more support to Tesla and Starlink?

No, there’s other companies out there who are not toxic that we could support that does the same thing

I love how the article mentions shutting key satellites while simultaneously posting an image from GOES-19 (see image caption) imager that was launched in April, which is specifically used to monitor hurricanes.

From the article:

“A National Weather Service spokesperson said these particular satellites were expected to decommission eventually, but usually, old and new satellites collect redundant data until the older one is decommissioned.”

They are basically saying they didn’t get enough notice that the old satellite was getting decommissioned.

The hurricane map in the Atlantic Ocean may be nearly blank now, but forecasters say that may not last much longer, as several signs point to an uptick in activity across the basin.

"The tropical environment should become more conducive for Atlantic hurricane activity in the next few weeks," said Colorado State University meteorologist Phil Klotzbach in a July 24 email to USA TODAY...

Yes, it’s that time of the year. And a reminder that a quiet season doesn’t mean a deadly one because all it takes is one. Tropical Storm Chantal did a number on NC.

In reversal, Defense Department will continue providing crucial satellite weather data

In June, the Navy announced that it would stop sharing the crucial information about storms, as peak hurricane season loomed in the Atlantic. In response, scientists and weather forecasters expressed fear that the missing data could lead to less accurate and timely hurricane forecasts.
