Yup...but I think Jones would fit better...he's a tough defender, can shoot the 3 at times, can finish at the rack but most important his best value being he could fill in for Wade and not fuck up Ray's rotation...

Lakers Rumors & News Recap: Lamar Odom’s Fate Uncertain

By Ryan Ward| July 28, 2013|

Before the Los Angeles Lakers agreed to terms with undrafted rookie Elias Harris on a two-year deal, the team reuniting with Lamar Odom appeared to be a likely scenario. Odom remains a free agent almost a month into NBA free agency with the Los Angeles Clippers seemingly passing on re-signing the veteran forward and the Lakers unclear about their intentions to sign or not sign the former Sixth Man of the Year.

Once Harris agreed to terms, the writing appeared to be on the wall with the Lakers also passing on the opportunity to sign Odom. Although one guaranteed contract remains for the team moving forward, the consensus seems to be that they’ll likely sign another young prospect rather than bringing back the two-time NBA champion.

As of right now, the top two players on the team’s radar for the final spot may very well be Chris Douglas-Roberts and Marcus Landry. Douglas-Roberts has been trying to make the team for quite some time while Landry made an impression on the summer league squad in Las Vegas recently.

Another possibility is Austin Daye. Harris coming to terms with the team may have changed the team’s stance on Daye, but there’s still a possibility the Lakers may still be considering the former first-round draft pick.

Heat scout Tim Hardaway says if Miami signs Greg Oden, they’ll win a third straight title
Brett Pollakoff Jul 29, 2013, 12:01 AM EDT

It’s only July, but apparently it isn’t too early to make proclamations as to who might win next year’s NBA championship a little more than 11 months from now.
Greg Oden was reported to be impressive in his recent workout in front of personnel representing five NBA teams, so much so that an employee of one of the clubs represented is ready to begin getting sized for a ring should his team be the one that ends up landing Oden’s services.

From Chris Tomasson of Fox Sports Florida:
The Heat remain committed to going after free-agent center Greg Oden, who is expected to make a decision soon. Miami coach Erik Spoelstra and vice president of player personnel Chet Kammerer observed Oden in a workout last week in his hometown of Indianapolis.

“If we get Greg Oden, I think we will win a third (straight) title,” Heat scout Tim Hardaway said in an interview with FOX Sports Florida on Saturday.
One would think that this is precisely the type of pressure situation that Oden wishes to avoid in his NBA return, which appears more and more likely to take place next season.
The reality is that no one knows what Oden will be able to give to a franchise, and that’s especially true when considering his contributions for a team in the playoffs a good nine months from now.
All we know at this moment is that Oden appears to be healthy and in relatively good shape. And until we see him face off against other NBA players in games that actually matter, all judgments need to be reserved, and should probably be kept completely silent.

Re: ~*~2013 NBA Offseason Thread - Amnesty period & contact signings 7/10~*~

Uh since when was oden known for d? Let alone healthy

Well him being a seven footer helps...
Remember the dpoy award factor in rebounding and blocks...
Bosh not playing center is the key...

Re: ~*~2013 NBA Offseason Thread - Amnesty period & contact signings 7/10~*~

Can Oden give the Heat at least 70 games and about 12 minutes a game when he does play? Time will tell. He needs not to jump a lot that would help.

Well injuries have hurt a few players career early on, but some were able to bounce back after a few years of rest....this is where some GM's are at with Oden, hoping he can recover.

Mo Williams is flying to Memphis to meet with the Grizzlies' front office on Monday night.

Williams was a reported target of the Grizzlies.

Williams is surprisingly still a free agent despite being one of the top free agent point guards.

Williams played for the Utah Jazz last season.

Obstacles abound for Oden return

Tom LipmanGreg Oden, who hasn't played since 2009, has a lot to weigh before choosing his next NBA team.
He hasn't played in an NBA game in almost four years. He's had five surgeries on his knees, including three dreaded microfracture procedures. He's not in great shape, and he's not even playing five-on-five, at least publicly.

And yet teams just can't help themselves. There's no "if" when it comes to*Greg Oden's return to the NBA. It's "when," and that very well could be this week, according to sources.

After hosting several teams -- which included the two that met in June's NBA Finals, the Miami Heat and San Antonio Spurs, and other possible playoff teams such as the restructured and renamed New Orleans Pelicans*--*for workouts in Indianapolis last week, Oden, now 25 years old, is close to a decision.

"Whenever you see somebody that big move well you can't help but get excited about what he could be," said one team official who has been tracking Oden.

"He needs to get in better shape but that will come," said a coach who attended a recent workout. "He does look pretty good."

"He's not that far off microfracture [surgery]," a team executive said in regard to Oden, who last had the procedure in February 2012. "He still has a way to go to getting his knee where it needs to be, but there are possibilities."

Oden certainly has the talent. The No. 1 overall pick in the 2007 NBA draft, Oden has averaged 9.4 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.4 blocks in 82 career games. In 21 games in 2009-10, he produced a player efficiency rating (PER) of 23.14, the eighth-best mark in the NBA.*

But no player has ever been able to come back after the kind of knee trauma he has endured in his six-year career. Most likely because they would have given up by now.

The Heat, though, remain hot on his trail. The two-time champions have been looking for size ever since they formed the Big Three four years ago. They've tried veterans near retirement (Zydrunas Ilgauskas and Jamaal Magloire), midseason buyouts (Erick Dampier and Ronny Turiaf), second-round prospects (Dexter Pittman) and amnesty releases (Chris Andersen). Oden would fit into the reclamation project category, a route they tried with Eddy Curry. Among the seven signees, only Andersen has worked out, and the Heat are concerned he may not be enough as they try for a three-peat.

The Heat barely got past the Indiana Pacers*in the Eastern Conference finals, and the Pacers made great strides in upgrading their bench this offseason, including their recent trade for Luis Scola. The Chicago Bulls are a lingering threat thanks to their size and the return of Derrick Rose. And the Brooklyn Nets suddenly have a pair of All-Stars leading their frontcourt in Brook Lopez and Kevin Garnett. The East has gotten bigger, and the Heat may need to match that size if they hope to win the conference for a fourth straight year.

But it's not just the injuries Oden is dealing with. In a Grantland story last year, Oden spoke of a drinking problem he developed while rehabbing in Portland, even using the word "alcoholic."

According to sources, teams were well aware of that even before his admission, as well as his issues with depression that sometimes affected his rehab. Oden also addressed that in the Grantland interview, saying that at times he had holed up in his house because of the scrutiny.

There has surely been vetting of Oden's physical health, especially after so much finger-pointing between him and the Trail Blazers, but teams have assuredly checked on his mental state as well.

His role next season is a topic of discussion, too, one that was likely broached with Heat coach Erik Spoelstra when the two had lunch after a workout in Indianapolis last week.

The Heat don't need a starting center who will play 30 minutes, but they sure could use a 7-footer who can bother the likes of Roy Hibbert, Brook Lopez and Joakim Noah in certain situations, and Oden has always been able to defend.

Oden, who has already made about $23 million in his career, has said that money will not be a driving factor in his comeback, that fit and comfort level will be important. But that doesn't mean there won't be a limited bidding war.

The Heat have financial concerns, as evidenced by the recent release of Mike Miller to save on luxury tax payments. They have their $3.2 million midlevel exception available, but using all of it would cost around $10 million if tax penalties are considered. They would like to offer Oden a veteran's minimum contract at about $1 million and have developed quite a reputation of getting free agents to accept less.

But other teams such as the Spurs, Pelicans, Atlanta Hawks and Sacramento Kings have portions of their various midlevel exceptions available to use on Oden that could pay him significantly more than the minimum.

That's a lot to weigh for a player with just a season's worth of games on his résumeé. But it also speaks to the type of player Oden can be if healthy.

AP Source: Bobcats sign Henderson to 3-year deal

By STEVE REED

AP Sports Writer

(AP) -- Charlotte shooting guard Gerald Henderson and the Bobcats have agreed to a three-year, $18 million contract, said a person familiar with the situation.

The person says Henderson, 25, has the option to become an unrestricted free agent after the 2014-15 season. The person spoke to The Associated Press Saturday on condition of anonymity because the deal has not yet been signed.

Henderson, a four-year NBA veteran, was a restricted free agent. Yahoo Sports first reported the deal.

The 12th overall pick in the 2009 NBA draft by the Bobcats, Henderson averaged 15.5 points per game last season, second best on the team.

Henderson finished the 2012-13 season playing the best basketball of his professional career, averaging 23.9 points over the final 23 games while shooting 48 percent from the field.

Henderson is the Bobcats' longest tenured player on the roster.

The Bobcats view Henderson as one of their core players, along with fellow co-captain Kemba Walker, Bismack Biyombo, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist and rookie Cody Zeller, the No. 4 pick in this year's draft.

The 6-foot-5, 215-pound Henderson has started 143 games over the past three seasons and averaged 11.3 points and 3.1 rebounds per game during his career. He's averaged better than 15 points per game in each of the last two seasons.

Still, the Bobcats would like to see his 3-point shooting continue to improve.

In 2011-12, Henderson shot just 23 percent from beyond the arc. He showed considerable progress in that area last year, converting 33 percent of his 3-point attempts.

The move likely precludes the Bobcats from signing any other high-profile free agents this summer.

The team earlier this offseason signed free agent center Al Jefferson to a three-year, $41 million contract after using the amnesty clause to release forward Tyrus Thomas. It was the largest free agent contract the Bobcats have ever handed out.

Re: ~*~2013 NBA Offseason Thread - Amnesty period & contact signings 7/10~*~

The Houston Rockets have signed veteran free agent center Marcus Camby.
It is the second stint for Camby in Houston after he played for the Rockets in 2012. The 39-year-old played 19 games for Houston that season and averaged 7.1 points, 9.3 rebounds and 1.53 blocks. He was shipped to the New York Knicks by the Rockets in a sign-and-trade in July 2012 and appeared in 24 games for the Knicks last season.
The 6-foot-11 player was traded to Toronto on July 10 and waived by the Raptors on July 17.
He joins a team that has superstar center Dwight Howard, Houston's major free agent pickup, and last year's starting center Omer Asik.
The 17-year veteran was the second overall pick by the Raptors in 1996.

Al Harrington: I've lost 27 pounds and want on a contender

It’s been hard work,” Harrington, who gained all of his weight back and more last season, said of his road back. “I started on April 26. That’s the day I got in the gym, and I’ve been in here ever since. I really had no time off, just been grinding and trying to lose the weight. I feel like the lighter I am the more pressure I take off my knee, you know what I mean? So that was the focus behind losing the weight, and then just being strong.

“I’ve lost 27 pounds. I’m on my way down. I had to do it, and I’m focused. I’ve got a lot left in the tank. I’m only 33 years old, and people act like I’m 40. I’m just excited about getting back out there on the court and showing everybody. For me, this year I’m going to have a chip on my shoulder, so if I play like that I’m going to be tough to deal with.”

"I want to win, so I'll put it like this: I want to go to a situation where I can compete to make the playoffs," he said. "I'm too old to play for nothing. When I was younger, of course you play for stats and you want to be good, but I'm not going to be a Hall of Famer or nothing like that, so I want to win. I just want to win.
