Birdman returning to champion Heat

Chris Andersen, key off the bench as a source of energy during the Heat's championship run last season, has committed to re-signing with Miami, sources confirmed to ESPN.

Anderson could have commanded longer deals elsewhere, but sources said that he couldn't bear to leave such a good situation in Miami, where he emerged as the Heat's best big man after joining the team in January. He averaged 4.9 points and 4.1 rebounds off the bench in 42 regular season games and 6.4 points and 3.8 rebounds while shooting a remarkable 81 percent from the field in the postseason.

The Heat had made bringing Andersen back an offseason priority but are limited somewhat financially because they are facing a $30 million luxury tax bill this upcoming season.

Yahoo! Sports first reported the agreement. Andersen can't sign the deal before Wednesday, when the league lifts its annual moratorium on player business.

Knicks Interested In Chauncey Billups
Jul 09, 2013 8:22 AM EDT

The New York Knicks are pursuing Chauncey Billups.

Billups was amnestied by the Knicks in 2011 to create enough cap space to sign Tyson Chandler.

Billups, however, is unlikely to accept a minimum deal.

Kings In Lead For Monta Ellis After Bulls' Pursuit Falls Short
Jul 09, 2013 4:36 PM EDT

After an increasing belief the Chicago Bulls had been in position to acquire Monta Ellis, the Sacramento Kings have separated themselves as frontrunners to sign the free agent guard on a three-year contract, league sources told RealGM on Tuesday afternoon.

Ellis set up meetings with teams over the weekend and into the week, and he privately believed in recent days that joining the Bulls in a sign-and-trade between Chicago and the Milwaukee Bucks had been a growing possibility. Despite a hard push out of the Bulls, they ultimately couldn’t make the moves necessary to facilitate a potential sign and trade, a source said.

Behind the Kings, Ellis is also considering the Atlanta Hawks and Dallas Mavericks. Yet, all three organizations must complete roster moves to create salary room. The Kings and Mavericks need to move contracts, while the Hawks would have to use Jeff Teague in a sign-and-trade.

The Kings have yet to broach discussion with John Salmons about using the amnesty clause on him, a league source told RealGM. Salmons has two seasons left on his contract, including a team option on the second year.

Ellis, 27, averaged 19.2 points and six assists last season, and he’s pitched himself as an All-Star caliber guard. The Denver Nuggets had emerged as a serious suitor for Ellis last week, but they were unwilling to commit financially.

NBA Sets Salary Cap At $58.679M, Luxury Tax Line At $71.748M
Jul 09, 2013 10:29 PM EDT

The NBA announced Tuesday night that its salary cap for next season will be $58.679 million.

The luxury tax level will be set at $71.748 million for the 2013-14 campaign.

Due to the new collective bargaining agreement, the luxury tax penalties will be severely more punitive than in past seasons.

In previous seasons, any team whose team salary exceeded the tax level paid a $1 tax for each $1 by which it was over the tax level. The new tax rate schedule is below:

Portion of team salary $0-$4.99 million over tax level: $1.50 for $1

Portion of team salary $5-$9.99 million over tax level: $1.75 for $1

Portion of team salary $10-$14.99 million over tax level: $2.50 for $1

Portion of team salary $15-$19.99 million over tax level: $3.25 for $1

Rates increase by $0.50 for each additional $5 million of team salary above the tax level.

I am late to the current free agency in the nba
these days but someone tell me that I am dreaming.
Yahoo sports has reported that
the cavs are offering Andrew Bynum
a 2 year deal for $24 million

THA FUCK???
:smh:

Its a good deal cause the 2nd year is a team option. So if he plays well and stays healthy they have him locked up for next year. If he doesnt they can just let him go and have all that cap space freed up.

Re: ~*~2013 NBA Offseason Thread - Amnesty period & contact signings 7/10~*~

Jordan Farmar agrees with Lakers

Jordan Farmar has agreed to sign with the Los Angeles Lakers, the veteran guard told ESPNLosAngeles.com Tuesday night.

The sides agreed to a one-year, veteran minimum deal worth approximately $1 million. L.A. must first negotiate a buyout with Farmar's club in Turkey, Anadolu Efes, which is believed to be in the $500,000 range. The buyout does not count against the salary cap, an important detail to the luxury tax-laden Lakers.

The deal required a significant financial sacrifice by Farmar to be completed. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound guard signed a three-year, $10.5 million deal last summer to play in the Turkish Basketball League.

Re: ~*~2013 NBA Offseason Thread - Amnesty period & contact signings 7/10~*~

Monta Ellis fired his agent!

He gassed that country nigga up and cost him MILLIONS :smh:

He opted out of 11 mill this year, turned down 3 years 36 mill from the Bucks

Now he can't even get a deal for 10 mill a year

It's a combo of teams running out of money, not willing to go over the cap, and the fact he is an undersized chucker who isn't efficient and won't win you too many ball games

Pepper get too caught up in names, I'd take him at a decent rate but not 10-12 mill a year

 he feels he is a star :smh: Nice guy though but aint worth all that money. Like you said. Inefficient! He might need to change his game up or Maybe go to a contender and be 6th man coming off the bench to light it up like Jamaal Crawford did with Clippers last year.

Re: ~*~2013 NBA Offseason Thread - Amnesty period & contact signings 7/10~*~

His agent is a moron.......and ellis is one as well

Re: ~*~2013 NBA Offseason Thread - Amnesty period & contact signings 7/10~*~

Ellis is a good player who can get to the basket but the nerve of that nigga turning down 12 mill a year

There are a lot of players who would score 20 points a game inefficiently if they ha the green light to shoot 20 times a game

Allen Iverson old ass could still do that of you brought him in and gave him the green light

Re: ~*~2013 NBA Offseason Thread - Amnesty period & contact signings 7/10~*~

Corey Brewer reportedly headed back to the Wolves 3 years 15 mill

They also closing in on extending Pekovic 4 years 50 mill

Gives you an idea of how much you would have to overpay to pray him away as a RFA

yeah, but notoriously poor conditioning and questionable D.

he can contribute by stretching the D if his shot is falling.
