2012 NBA All-Defensive Teams Announced: Tyson Chandler, NBA Defensive Player Of The Year, Makes Second Team

Tyson Chandler was named the NBA's Defensive Player of the Year, but somehow he did not make the NBA All-Defensive First Team. The New York Knicks center was named to the Second Team, as voted by the league's coaches.

Players received two points for a First Team vote and one point for a Second Team vote. LeBron James led the way with 53 points, including 24 votes for his inclusion on the first team, more than any other player. He was joined on the First Team by Serge Ibaka, Dwight Howard, Chris Paul and Tony Allen. Ibaka and Allen both made the First Team for the first time.

In addition to Chandler, who led the Second Team in voting, the Second Team included Kevin Garnett, Rajon Rondo, Kobe Bryant and Luol Deng. Chandler received more points (36) than either Paul or Allen, but made the Second Team because the balloting is based on position.

Man as a Heat fan I know that there are certain big men who worry me in the paint, but sorry, Chandler is not one of them....

He's a superstar and won it before, so folks just keep voting for you.

It's as silly as how old ass defensive liability Derek Jeter wins Gold Gloves in baseball.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks its complete bullshit.

Why the fuck is Kobe all defense every season??
The writers are incredibly lazy and most have limited knowledge of the game and merely parrot whats popular and/or highly televised. Kobe was voted first time about 4times too many so im not surprised to see him now making 2nd team.

no prob

but Chandler probably somewhere mumbling this is bullshit

Naw i'm sure that every dude on that 1st team defense is mubling this is bullshit. Ibaka had the highest block totals of anyone since '94. Lebron and Dwight were nasty. I always thought this was just the league throwing the Knicks and Chandler a bone but this is the accurate defensive teams. That voting process for DPOY is probably what got Chandler the reward. If its anything like they do MVP.

:lol::lol::lol:

the nba is some bullshit!! it's almost as bad as boxing the way they've let $$$ fuck up the integrity of the sport...

Ibaka got robbed, plain and simple. No way you can lead the league in blocks, make first team defense, and not win the defensive player of the year. Chandler is no scrub, but come on now, Ibaka clearly dominated that inside defender position this year.

Ibaka is not a sound position defender though, true he gets blocks, but alot time in halfcourt, he's out of position and is blessed with the athleticism to make up for it with recovery blocks...actually Perkins is a better overall defender than him to be honest...

I keep telling these dudes that Ibaka gets a lot of blocks but he is a mediocre defender

The media votes for the DPOY and the coaches vote for the all NBA defensive teams.

We can take two things away from this:

1) NY/east coast bias obviously came into play for Chandler to be voted DPOY in the 1st place.

2) The coaches voiced their opinion loud and clear who they thought the REAL DPOY was.

Too bad the media didn't get it right or LeBron wouldve taken home the MVP and DPOY, like he deserved.

My only question is who votes for the Defensive Player Of The Year?

Y'all niggas stay mad at Bean, to the point that it's just funny now...:D

Hate on niggas!

Hate my ass all Kobe does is play freelance defense in the passing lanes... I've yet to see him go one on one vs any of the top scores and lock him down..

while we're at it what about my boy Isaiah Thomas of the Kings

dude won Rookie of the month twice in a four month season and places 7th in Rookie voting (yes Kyrie should have won it), and doesnt even make 1st Rookie team, just 2nd team :hmm:

Def POY should have been Howard but the writers arent going to do that and its not good for the nba after he whined all season.
