That Era had MC's not rappers. They just didn't throw around a bunch of words. Every rhyme by Rakim or BDK was thought out and planned. Even Will Smith had a crazy flow if you were really listening.

honestly a lot of dat 80s shit sounds basic and amateurish to my ears.. the rhymes, beats & flows made in the 90s were light years ahead
The technology changed and you got to build on something. However, if you go back and listen to BDK, Rakim, Melle Mel, Public Enemy, NWA, shit countless others their music transcends years.
You real disrespectful.

The Gucci Crew II was a Miami bass group. In 1988, the trio released What Time is It? It's Gucci Time, and was quickly embraced by the emerging car audio bass market.

As a 16 year old in 1988, it's hard to appreciate how groundbreaking that year was for hip hop if you weren't old enough to remember it. However, 1992 and 1993 were huge as well. Don't forget that Yo! MTV Raps premiered in 1988 on Saturday mornings. I remember each week had a different rapper or group hosting, including many of the artist that dropped albums in that year. That exposure had a huge influence in fueling the strength of those 88 albums.
