1980s Gobots VS Transformers... Who do U Like Better?

I loved them both. But I think with Marvel having a comic book out and being that I was into Comics too, seeing Transformers more got me to side with TF.
I liked the Gobots Cartoon despite its H-B Animation style.

True. As good as the show was, the G1 Marvel comics was way better. What started out as a 4-issue limited series turned into a 80 issue monthly series:yes:

I finally got all of them about 3 years back (took forever to find some of the issues in the #70's range)

This is an age old topic. Transformers will always win out. GoBots were a poor man's alternative to Transformers. One thing I did like were the toys & how small they were. Many transformers were too big to simply put in your pocket without the local gooch rolling up asking,

"Yo... let me check ya pockets.
Hmm... that's that new Megatron?
Word... word.
Let me hold onto that for you.
By the way how's ya moms?"

I know I am not the only guy on here to cry when Prime died. I was 9, bawling my eyes out as Prime said, "Do not grieve."

When he flatlined you could hear the many kids in Southgate theaters crying. Some silently, some a little louder.

Man been embarassed to admit this for years...I thought I was the only one...:lol::lol:

I wasn't really into either of those cartoons, but the Gobots was some silly childish bullshit. :hmm:

I have to admit to being a little geeked when Shockwave blasted the shit out of Omega Supreme (or whichever giant robot guarded some shit on Cybertron; it's been 25 years since I saw the shit), after Omega had just run down his resumé as an invincible galactic bad-ass.

I got all the original Marvel series back in 2001, and some of the new shit that came out...that Marvel series was something serious. Shockwave was a beast in the series. That mo fo came in at then end of issue 4 and killed ALL the autobots...straight gangsta.

I used to watch both and actually never compared either of them to one another. Gobots was funny because they would have those fake me out 5 part series where either Turbo or Leader 1 would be fucked up until Friday's episode.

On the whole Transformers was way better but it was very difficult to try collect them all. I used to cash gift bonds to cop some from the Child's World and Toy R' Us. How many of ya'll remember Fortress Maximus. He was literally like 3 feet tall almost. The mutha cost me like $85 back in the late '80s. Dude's head head its own Headmaster and even his head had its own transformer. He was the truth. This was at a time when we all thought they would make a Unicron. I swore that he would have to at least be as big as GI Joe's aircraft carrier.

On a whole Transformers trumped Go Bots in every way. Surprised as hell to know that Go Bots was there first

Shockwave was on another level in the comics. He wasn't on that "yes man" bullshit like in the TV show. He was raw as hell:
-He personally flew from Cybertron to Earth when he lost contact with Megatron when the Autobots/Decepticons crashed 4 million years ago.
-He personally whooped all 5 Dinobots at the same time
-After deactivating all of the Autobots he took the leadership from Megatron
Repeatperformance-preparedtheprisoner.jpg

-Took Prime's head and had him bring Decepticons to life for him

The only Transformer more raw was the comic version of Galvatron!

I liked the mighty Orbots.

Me too. I just wish they had more than 13 episodes.

I ain't read the post yet, but if any nigga say that they liked the Ho-Bots better, I'm putting them niggas on the list. Them niggas suspect lol

I think we all have this story, but didn't want to admit it.:(

Same here. I even had the Optimus Prime toy with me in the theatre! When he died, I stopped playing with him. I swore that his red paint even got a little grey. :smh::lol:

That particular book was sick. I bought it off of the cover alone. When I saw Prime strung up like that I was like...

I did the same thing. When I got home I put up Ironhide, Ratchet, Prowl, Wheeljack, and my insecticons.

I had Jazz as my Autobots leader until I got Ultra Magnus, and he was leader until I finally got Rodimus.

I kept Starscream around because I had him coming back as a ghost like on the TV show:lol:

I brought Prime back when they had "The Return of Optimus Prime" Also got Powermaster Prime about the same time he debuted in the comics

FAM - CO SIGN ALL DAY.

We got there late n shit and my father said let's go in and cathc the beginning at the end. We walked right in when Prime did that flying leap and shot Ramjet through the back.

I said Oh shit and pops popped me in the head. Five minutes later... Prime was getting shot in the face and fell (Glory style with that one leg up) and a minute later was dead.

Niggas was in tears. Till this day folks everywhere talk about transformers dying. Check it -

1. Prowl - dead. Shot in the chest, flames out his mouth n eyes.
2. Brawn - dead. Shot in the shoulder, through his back
3. Ratchet - dead. Multiple shots in the chest
4. Ironhide - dead. Same thing, then shot in the face
5. Wheeljack - dead.
6. Windcharger - dead.
7. Megatron - dead. Nearly beaten to death and brain-wiped
8. Kickback - dead. Head ran over, smashed
9. Thundercracker - dead.
10. Skywarp - dead.
11. Bombshell - dead.
12. Shrapnel - dead.
13. Starscream - dead. Blasted and disintegrated into pieces.
14. Shockwave - dead.
15. Unicron - dead.
16. Prime...

Prime had one of the best movie deaths ever. Michael Bay's flicks both PALE IN STARK COMPARISON to the emotion of the first half hour of Transformers The Movie.

It's incredible that this type of thing in an animated show will never happen again. The emotional attachment to most of today's animated heros just aren't there. Sure you could just kill off some popular heroic leader in some show nowadays but one, many wouldn't care all that much outside of if the death does/doesn't fit into the storyline, and two, most studios aren brave enough to do such a thing. From a financial standpoint, it ended up being a huge mistake for Prime (and the others) to die.
