Same with car accidents. My wife’s aunt got in an accident and the car flipped over. Instead of waiting for first responders, the sons unbuckled her and she fell on her back and is paralyzed from waist down.

For all I know, the initial accident could have caused the injury, but we don’t know. Sometimes it’s best to leave things to professionals. But I do get why people get the urge to want to help and do something.
