I have a friend from High school (Carol) who had long dark hair straight hair down to her shoulders and very fair skin (think Halsey the Recording Artist).
At first glance you would assume she is white that is until she started speaking. She had one of the deepest Southern drawls that I can remember, and you would swear she had just arrived from somewhere in North Carolina (the deep country area).
She explained that her mother was white and her father was black and that she would go stay with her Paternal Grandmother in the Summer time (trust me if you have black parents from the South you will understand what I am referring to).
Over the years I have learned to pay more attention to how people move when it comes to trying to advance positive causes for black people as opposed to paying more attention to their complexion.
