ALDO / PETTIS later this year. Shit is gonna be dope. ALDO has been the 145 champ for the WEC & now UFC for a number of years. Pettis made his name in the WEC ... finished as the WEC champ in mid-December 2010 (at 155lbs) & has done well for himself in the UFC (aside from the loss to Guida & recovering from injury during 2012). He made quick work of Cerrone in Jan. 2013 and him/Aldo will be dope (just like Pettis-Henderson II would have been / eventually will be at 155).

Wow..what a fight..I'm leaning towards Pettis on this one. But I would have to think long and hard about that. my first concern for Pettis is that weight cut. Dude is 5'10 getting down to 145.

Definitely gotta self-promote in the sport these days. Pettis was in line to face the winner of Maynard-Edgar in 2011, but chose to take a fight with Guida in the time between and lost before getting himself back on track from later on through Jan. 2013. He could have waited here for the winner of Henderson-Melendez this year, but chose to text Dana on Saturday night saying he'd be game to face ALDO and a few days later ... done (for later this year). Cats like Ricardo Lamas noted on MMA Junkie they now realize it's all about creating that hype for 'self. Can't be too quiet or in the background. Self-promote / get the fans buzzing, etc. Aldo-Pettis is gonna be dope. Both have been doing the damn thing for years. Should be interesting to see Pettis drop down 10lbs. Good point about his height, Ron. Not sure what his REGULAR walking around weight is. Forget if he mentioned it a few years back on the WORLD OF JENKS episode he did for MTV (dope by the way - "Fifty Fists" - check that shit out if you missed it in 2010).

Ask and you shall receive.

Dana likes those aggressive people that ask for what they want.

Going to be an interesting fight. Lot's of kicks and movement.

Can't wait!

Yeah man - that's the thing with MMA these days. You have to steer your career and show confidence. As they say - do it respectfully too (call-outs). Guys like Joe Silva and Sean Shelby actually appreciate people helping them in that sense as far as matchmaking goes.

interesting info H-Funk

Should be an exciting fight, I think cardio decides this fight. And Aldo tends to gas in the end.

This should be great. Aldo will have no choice but to go HARD in the gym. He thought Frankie was a machine, Pettis gives it to you the whole fight. Just go ask Henderson. This could be fight of the year before it even goes done.

I agree also will have to loose some weight now if he takes this fight. He should get close to 155-160 before the camp so a 15 pound cut would be the max he would have to deal with even if he didn't loose any weight during the camp which is highly unlikely. However pettis has to cut an extra 10 pounds as well I'm not sure of his walk around weight so that will be interesting.

I've often wondered how much Aldo cuts down from as he's a very big 145lb'er. That's often the knock against him ... lack of cardio in the championship rounds (see the fights with Hominick, Florian, Edgar, etc) but obviously extremely dangerous in rounds 1 - 3. He's got a fair bit of muscle mass, and Frankie was a small 155 pounder. So Aldo at 145 was clearly bigger than him (even when Frankie dropped down last weekend).

In the next few years they are going to break down what is essential to be successful for a MMA fighter. I see dancing and gymnastics taking a good part in it. One thing about anderson that nobody ever mentions is how much he likes to dance. It may sound silly, but the way he moves around and gets out the way of strikes is something to behold considering all the other techniques needed to be at the top in MMA. You watch the forrest fight, the fight with bonnar or the fight with leben you see how he not only is able to get out the way, but he is also able to land his strikes with laser accuracy. Its good technique and foot movement, but I think it came from him dancing a lot as a child.

True. Takes a shit load of cross-training (this sport) given all the disciplines. So glad we're no longer stuck in the 90s days of good athletes mixed in with bar-based brawlers (like Tank Abott). Nowadays you'll get nowhere in the sport without cardio, speed, power, skill(s), and no major eyesore weaknesses. Good point about Silva being a good dancer. A cat like GSP is considered one of the sport's best "wrestlers for MMA" and people often forget he has NO high school or collegiate experience to draw upon. Hell ... a few years back he was talking about trying out for the Canadian Olympic wrestling team. Damn. WTF?:D:lol:

Aldo needs to find his killer instinct again. Granted he did fought some tough cats lately. But I just feel like he has lost some fire within himself, plus he said he didn't want to fight Pettis at first. Not saying he was scared but it didn't seem like the Aldo I've grown to love watch fight. This kid was fearless and destroyed! Just seems off!

True - he's been more conservative in recent years, and has had some tough weight cuts & the motorcycle accident. Many people were saying he'll eventually move up to 155 (from 145) given his frame and basic musculature. He's probably cutting down from 170 - 180.
