On a Potential Rousey Return: “I went backstage after and hung out with her for probably 40-45 minutes. I’ll tell you this: She’s in better spirits this time than she was after the Holly fight. She’s very competitive. She does not like to lose. She loves to win, and she loves to do what she sets out to do.”

On His Praise For Rousey: “(It) wasn’t her night, and none of this would be here without Ronda Rousey,” White said. “Ronda Rousey built this. She talked me into letting women come into the UFC, and it was the smartest thing I’ve ever done. Regardless of whether she comes back, she doesn’t come back – she’s a winner. She built this whole thing.”

Ronda Rousey has released a statement to ESPN.com about her UFC 207 loss to Amanda Nunes.

She said: “I want to say thank you to all of my fans who have been there for me in not only the greatest moments but in the most difficult ones. Words cannot convey how much your love and support means to me. Returning to not just fighting, but winning, was my entire focus this past year. However, sometimes – even when you prepare and give everything you have and want something so badly – it doesn’t work how you planned. I take pride in seeing how far the women’s division has come in the UFC and commend all the other women who have been part of making this possible, including Amanda. I need to take some time to reflect and think about the future. Thank you for believing in me and understanding.”

Meanwhile, Jon Jones, who has had his own hardships in his UFC career, took time to give his support to Rousey on Twitter. He wrote:

UPDATE: TMZ also spoke with AnnMaria De Mars, who said that she thinks her daughter should retire from MMA and should have a long time ago. But she said that she doesn’t know if Rousey will, as she is an adult and will make her own decisions. She added that Rousey is “sad and disappointed” by the loss and “trying not to think about it right now.”


Original: Ronda Rousey’s mother, Dr. AnnMaria De Mars, released a statement on her personal blog, expressing how proud she is of her daughter following her loss at UFC 207. Rousey was knocked out in the first round by reigning champion Amanda Nunes in the main event. It was Rousey’s first fight since suffering her first career defeat in November 2015 at UFC 193 at the hands of Holly Holm.

Like every mother and daughter on the face of the earth, Ronda and I don’t always see eye to eye. However, there is one situation where I am pretty certain.

All of those who have criticized Ronda for taking a loss so to heart, for not just ‘shrugging it off’ don’t understand that what made Ronda so successful is that she cares DEEPLY about winning to an extent that I don’t believe the average person can wrap his/her head around.

Caring deeply about something and working your hardest to achieve it doesn’t mean you make the right decisions 100% of the time. Wouldn’t it be a nicer world if it did?

Those of you who want to criticize Ronda, I just want to point out a few things. First of all, I know her better than you and she is a smart, kind, talented, generous, hard-working person.

Second, I’d like to list some of her accomplishments, and note that she isn’t yet 30 years old.

Panamerican Games Judo Gold Medalist
First American woman in a decade to win a world cup in judo (and then she went on to win several more)

That’s just a partial list, but let me suggest that someone who has been world level athlete in two sports, written a best seller, acted in movies and made millions of dollars, all before the age of 30 has a pretty darn good track record. On top of that, Ronda has been part of the USADA drug testing since she was 16 years old, never failed a drug test, always paid her taxes, never been arrested, never been to rehab, has zero divorces, zero DUIs and zero children. While you might think that is to be expected, look how many celebrities (heck, look how many of your neighbors) can say that.

I am very proud of my daughter.

I understand Ronda's mom defending her daughter cause that's what parents do but no one is going in on her because of her resume and accomplishment - which are undeniably impressive- but because your daughter has no class, she was a shitty winner and a shitty loser. CHAMPIONS, WIN OR LOSE, DO PRESS CONFERENCES.

Her record was actually unimpressive. She looked good against tomatoes cans and weekend warrior type opponents

I respect RR as a fighter but her lack of professionalism and class is the reason why so many people are glad to see her humbled. I didn't think Holly was gonna be the girl to serve up the pie but I'm sure happy she did. Hope we see a more respectful Ronda upon her return.

Cody showed THE FUCK UP. I won't lie, I went from having him as my pick to not liking him during the lead up interviews, to eating crow watching him do that to Cruz.

Big Rigg - I knew he'd lose after that weight issue. I just wish Magny wouldbe actually shown he can hang w the killers beyond Big rig.

Dillashaw showed out. Him.and Cody will be a great match


Aaaaaaaand nothing else to say that hasn't been said about ol sore loser Ronda. I couldn't imagine she had learned anything new for this fight and i couldnt believe her team.would be that delusional putting her against a striker who's on a rear and has really gotten her stride who hits HARDER than Holly- all while Ronda hasn't done a thing to learn about what to do there, after A year layoff- when she just lost to a similar style.

But lo and behold, her and her dumbass coach really were that stupid. I thought it would go exactly like that. You could literally see her break after that first jab. Oh well. Yall know I used to defend her and I still think she did a lot for the sport , and beat the best at that time, but the game has evolved and she hasn't. And she has the nerve to be mad about it. She lost me ever since she was on Ellen crying and continues to show less and less class. Bye Ronda.
