Enjoy the card tonight, everyone. Should be a good one and will be very interesting to see GSP's return given the long layoff he has had recovering from injury. Anyone betting on the bouts? Fight week is always a bit of a blur ... especially with the Countdown programming ... various MMA tv shows & podcasts out there these days ... the past 3 weeks of UFC Primetime programming ... the press conference (mid-week) and the weigh-ins (yesterday - Friday). Some things to think about that I thought I'd share ...

- GSP last lost in April 2007
- He has been champion since April 2008
- He last fought in April 2011
- He was supposed to fight in October 2011 and February 2012, but both were canned per the injury status
- He has defended his strap against the likes of Fitch, Penn, Alves, Hardy, Koscheck, and Shields. His record is 22-2.
- The major knock against Georges being that he's very conservative in there. He may dominate people, but he's not the same guy who was more aggressive and collecting stoppages earlier in his career. Mind you ... the quality of competition has improved steadily over time (and he has noted trying to maintain a legacy, and not being careless in there having learned that with the title win over Hughes ... the quick loss to Serra ... and then beating Serra in the rematch the year following) ...

- Condit is the former WEC champion
- His record is 28-5
- His last losses were April 1st, 2009 and June 3rd, 2006
- He battled GSP's teammate Rory MacDonald for 15 mins in the Fight of the Night at UFC 115 in June of 2010. If you haven't seen that fight - check for it online. Solid scrap that the BGOL MMA heads can appreciate. Rory's making his name in the division presently and will face BJ Penn in early-December in Seattle.
- He has since knocked out Dan Hardy and Dong-Hyun Kim, and took a decision over Nick Diaz in Feb. 2012 (25 mins).
- Interestingly enough his last loss (Martin Kampmann - April 1st, 2009) was his UFC debut, and in turn ... Kampmann's been on a roll with some hard-fought come from behind victories the past year and change and is co-main eventing with Johnny Hendricks, with talk of the winner of that fight ... potentially getting a chance @ the winner of GSP-Condit. That said ... the UFC still would rather set up a 2013 superfight with GSP-SILVA and match them up somewhere between 170 - 185lbs. We'll see ... I'll get the shitload of links for ya'll in just a bit.

Can't wait. Match up/style wise I go with GSP all day. But I wonder about ring rust, if GSP can't get Condit down like he normally does. Condit will work him in the stand up.

I'm still going with GSP. Lets see if Condit can pull off the sub from his back.

Yeah - I think what makes this match-up most intriguing is that so many people are split. They see ways in which each person can win. They also want to see GSP in action after over 1.5 years away and the type of ring rust he may indeed have. Also ... previous opponents didn't always have the most complete games against him (or skill sets).

- Fitch (props on his toughness for lasting 25 mins)
- Alves (more of an aggressive style / got taken down numerous times)
- Penn (outsized as moving up from 155lbs)
- Hardy (good striker and toughness on sub defenses, but weak wrestling)
- Koscheck (GSP broke his orbital in the first few seconds, and owned him for 25 mins as Josh was looking to land that 1 big shot)
- Shields (more of a jiu-jitsu player and ground specialist, as striking and stand-up is not his forte). He lasted 25 mins in there as GSP had injured eye mid-fight, and his vision & depth perception were off and he fought even more conservatively than usual

Condit on the other hand is a former WEC champ ... has finished guys ... is riding momentum, and is good on the ground and in his stand-up ... people may have criticized him for his 25 mins against Diaz, but his team game-planned the fuck out of that fight. No way in hell they were gonna brawl with Nick in there. That's just plain dumb. They fought strategically and earned the W' with controlling the flow of the fight ... winning rounds & scoring points.

At first glance you would think GSP all day, but it's alot closer than you would think. He is coming back from an ACL injury and ring rust and the injury itself could play a big factor. You would think the UFC would give him a few warm-up fights to get back to full power before fighting the intern champ. Condit after the transition to the UFC has gotten back to is WEC champion days and has beaten many of the main contenders so he's a problem for any fighter. Close fight nonetheless.

No doubt. Condit may just be GSP's biggest threat to date. Condit poses all kinds of problems for GSP..first off he's much bigger, and well rounded in striking and bjj. Plus he's seems like a smart fighter..I wasn't mad at Condits gameplan against Diaz at all.

My gut is actually going with Condit. But my mind with GSP..a dominant wrestler has an advantage 9/10.

Great points, Naraku & Ron.

I'm completely indecisive on this one. Big fan of both fighters. Respect both their games. MMA is too damn unpredictable and it's been nearly 19 months since we last saw GSP in fighting mode. Condit's game has improved steadily and he's back to championship mode like he was in the WEC (damn - most of us regulars & hardcores miss that organization something heavy!).

I know I'm all fucked up with my picks in that I put some in @ Tapology. Put some different ones in @ MMAJunkie (because I forgot what I put a day earlier @ Tapology) and talked to my brother today and we locked in some $ picks (as we have a joint account in recent months). I think my picks were different there too  - we did ok on the previous PPV card (tripled our payout) but we messed up our Franklin/Le and Danzig/Gomi picks on the previous TV card.

Hell - I want fellow Canadian Hominick to get back on track.

- Did great in the WEC
- KO'd George Roop in a few mins - UFC
- 25 mins with the champ Jose Aldo - loss
- 7-second KO loss to Chan Sung Jung - loss
- 15 min' decision loss to Eddie Yagin
- Loss of his coach (and best man at his wedding) Shawn Thompkins in the summer of 2011

I want Condit to win. The UFC is always unpredictable. I think GSP will look like he never left tonight. He is smart and I dont think he would be fighting tonight if he didnt believe he was 100%. It all comes down to how Condit trained and will adapt to GSP.

Jay - Agreed. I'd like to see the division get shaken up. I'm Canadian too, so I'm clearly pulling for GSP ... but it would be something else if Condit just styled on him.

Georges is a smart guy and has had ample time to recover. That ring rust might be a muthafucka though.

MMA's unpredictable enough even when fighters are active. Hell ... Jon Jones has taken one of the best approaches in recent years. Constantly staying active (while he's still young) and putting together one of the best runs in history. His 2011 calendar year might in fact be considered the best all-time in the sport. February / March / September / December. 3 of those 4 opponents were former champions in his division.

Ring rust or not, I will always go with Condit. Better chin and better punch.

Only thing is GSP's rasslin'

Dont worry. If GSP loses i'm sure it's just a matter of time before Rory gets his rematch and title shot with Condit. I got Rory taking it in the rematch. IMO he's GSP 2.0 except bigger and hits harder.

Yo that cyril dude cold blooded... dude walked back to his corner like he was getting a glass of water lol

I BELIEVE IN CONDIT!

Good job with your picks thus far, guys. Doing pretty well here too. Brother and friend mentioned the picks and parlays they had locked in (they're about 11 hours away out of province) and I think we're doing pretty well thus far. Messed up the STOUT-MAKDESSI fight though, as I think we all had Stout locked in. Very good gameplan there from Makdessi. Picked his shots & good head movement. Proper, sound plan.
