It was seen as political suicide to vote against the Iraq war at the time. A lot of them knew the "intelligence" was bullshit. However, since Bush/Cheney linked it to 9/11 and their constant assurance that the iraqi oil would pay for the war, very few people voted against it.
The Afghanistan invasion was also bullshit and I remember that one brave congresswoman was against it.
