One can joke about anything, but in this case the joke wasn’t correct and needed to be corrected. When it wasn’t corrected it became disrespectful.
The song does have a meaning and he diminished it. He had several opportunities to correct it and say exactly what the song/chant meant but he didn’t.
And stood on in, that was a slap in the face of many.
And I didn’t even watch Lion King!

No one is perfect. We all got a bad day. Especially when your own camera all he time.
But the reason I think even his long time fans are disturbed by this is because he is being stupid.
And one thing I could NEVER say about Godfrey before this? Even when he was on Vlad?
That man is NOT stupid and doesn't wallow in ignorance and is not above admitting he is wrong.
What he is doing NOW is EVERYTHING he has claimed to hate and to be fighting against
especially by white people.
His reaction to this is very maga incel type ignorance.
I would have thought he would joke about being wrong give a heartfelt apology and then comeback in a week a damn EXPERT on the topic and make a 4 minute clip about what he learned
that is what a REAL COMEDIAN is SUPPOSED to do.

I went back and watched Godfrey’s explanation, and he didn’t get it. He missed the entire point of why there was a backlash.
He thinks that it’s simply because they made fun of the song, and not because they diminished the meaning of the song and its contents.
So try not to be mad at him, in this case he just didn’t and doesn’t understand.
