UPDATE: Donald Trump Takes Office as the 47th US President

I don't understand why people decided to travel after this fool started bombing the boats off of Venezuela and fucking with other places. It was too risky.
Most people don't follow politics like that to be worried. I get that and 29 is young to be caring about shyt like this. This just sucks cause she has no control over what is going on and this fool decided to do this over a weekend, thinking it would be wrapped up come Monday.

Minnesota is consistently a so-called donor state, meaning its federal tax contribution exceeds the amount it receives in federal funding. The federal government collected about $119 billion in tax revenue from Minnesota residents and businesses in 2023.

is the US being balkanized now?

While not undergoing a formal, violent breakup, the U.S. is experiencing functional "balkanization" characterized by extreme political polarization, deepening cultural divisions, and states operating as distinct, often antagonistic, regional blocs. This trend, often termed "soft secession," involves states taking control of policy areas formerly managed by the federal government and resisting national laws.
Key Indicators of U.S. Balkanization:
  • Regional Blocs: The U.S. acts as a federation of distinct regional cultures (or "nations") with, at times, irreconcilable differences in laws, values, and political systems.
  • Political Polarization: The collapse of ideological middle ground has created a situation where red and blue states are increasingly hostile to one another.
  • Institutional Breakdown: Constitutional interpretation has become partisan, with federal court orders sometimes viewed as suggestions rather than binding law.
  • Alternative Governance: States are building their own policy frameworks on issues like reproductive rights, gun control, and environmental regulation, resulting in "brutally different legal regimes" based on residency.

While some analysts point to these trends as evidence of a, or a coming, breakdown, others argue that the U.S. possesses a strong, robust civil society that acts as a buffer against total collapse. The country is likely facing a future of increased volatility rather than an immediate, formal dissolution.

The thing is though one doesn't have to be into politics or even watch the news. People being stuck on the islands (and other things) because the air space was on lock down was all over social media. People have to become self aware of the world that surrounds them. One thing I don't do is play around when it comes to international travel.
