On Saturday night, as the Los Angeles Dodgers battled the Florida Marlins, firefighters were called to Dodger Stadium to battle flames in the upper deck after a small fire broke out. It was a surreal site as fans were jettisoned away from the affected area while smoke rose from an area near the roof in the upper-reaches of the stadium during the sixth inning.

The fire reportedly originated in a storage room belonging to a Dodger Stadium food vendor. Officials said paper products in the area ignited, but added the public was never at risk and the fire was contained in a cinder block room and was extinguished by rescue workers some 20 minutes after smoke was spotted.

The game continued and fans in the affected areas were relocated to some of the many empty seats at the stadium on Saturday night. There's been no word on what caused the fire or how extensive the damage was to the storage room.

This could be just what the slumping Dodgers need.

In 1993 the Atlanta Braves acquired Fred The Crime Dog McGriff from the Padres. In the Crime Dog's first game in a Bravos uniform, the stadium caught fire and, literally, the then slumping Braves caught fire as well and went on to win the Western Division.
