The Owners worst nightmare: The Heat are in the finals

At the beginning of the year many owners said the Heat Big Three would be the worst thing to happen to the league.

Saying they would not be able to keep their stars and blah blah blah.

First congrats to the Heat.

All I'm hearing this morning is how owners are pissed and nervous.

Saying that we are about to see an exodus from the east starting with Dwight heading out west.:lol:

What's funny is hearing how many other owners were rooting for the Bulls. Woj on yahoo sports said last night that at least 14 owners were rooting against the heat and other players were hoping that the heat would lose as well.

As you saw with Ainge comments last week "our players are getting older and the heat are getting in their prime."

Woj also said owners are not going to spend money especially in this new cba just to lose to the heat.

Personally I never agree that whole "this will ruin the nba" ruin a couple team chances of competing yea but not that extreme.

U can tell owners and gms fear this team success. If its the new cba proposal basically doing away from another super team being formed or the gms hating on Pat two weeks ago.

Stern is going to lock out the players until he fixes this so it will never happen again. The salary cap won't allow for 3 max players after the new CBA gets negotiated. Someone is going to have to take a pay cut if they want to play with other superstars and with their big egos, no way thats going to happen...

Im not a Heat rider although I like the set up of there squad. It's the same for Yankee fans. They gonna hate! Fuck em! They should of knew Pat Riley wasn't going to sit on his ass and just GM. Dude a legacy! Getting it done on all levels. Congrats Heat and Mav fans. This shall be a great finals!

don't worry dallas will make the owners happy dirk the best player in the league

Most clutch shooter, but far from the best. He needs to step his defense up, and do some work in the paint before I even consider him in the Top 5 players in the league.

 :smh:  Your not serious?

No way in the hell is a WHITE BOY the best NBA player in the league.. I used to hate when they used to say NASH was the best in the league... Seriously?

I am not no Kobe Lover, but he is still the man in the league, followed by Bron & Dwade... Dirk is possibly number 4 or 5. But you still can't forget Rose, Melo and the rest. .. .

Manu was the player of the world during the 2008 olympics.:dunno: Why not?

Yea I don't agree with the owners and stern is trying to do. I understand their point but it doesn't make it right.

The Knicks would be hurt by this. The Lakers and other teams. I know they are saying this will level the playing field but come on

And to floss this isn't steve a this is adrian woj of yahoo sports. I think he will be on Jim Rome today to talk bout this.

My team is in the east but to be honest I don't hate the heat or feel any way about their success.

Owners will bitch they can't keep their stars because of the big three and all of this but that is excuses.

I don't really believe Woj.....

He can say anything he wants because no one will cop to it if asked...

It's like the unnamed sources reporters go to when they need to get some shit off of their chest....

Ruin the NBA?

Highest cable ratings ever...

Viewership up 25-30%

Why was it cool when the C's and the Lakers have the best players but not the Heat?

Losing!

I assume Stern love the Heat. Miami has had the highest TV ratings all season and set crazy records

I assume Stern love the Heat. Miami has had the highest TV ratings all season and set crazy records

You assume wrong.

People thinking Stern would be supporting the big three instead of the owners hasn't paid attention.

Stern said at all star game his repsonbility was to make sure his owners can function in this new economy.

People believe Stern will stand by the big three????:lol::lol: again as Derek Fisher said fans are more caught up with gossip about Kobe and Pau than what is happening in the CBA that will change the NBA

Stern is fighting for a hard cap. The players filed an unfair labor practice to avoid a lockout knowing if a lockout happens they will lose.

Stern is with his owners on this. If he wasn't he wouldn't be fighting for a new cba that will ensure no super teams and in 4 years the heat will have to break theirs apart

This is great for the owners. They just want the facade of being able to win, but historically there are usually only a few teams that can win in the NBA. The ratings are going to go up, and there is nothing better in sports than a villain because every team has the chance to be a hero.

I'm sure Stern doesn't mind the ratings but he also cares about every team in the league. He would rather have Lebron in Cleveland, Wade in Miami, and Bosh in Toronto because it keeps Cleveland and Toronto relevant. Even during the Laker, Bulls, Celtic dynasties you still had stars all over the place, whether it was Patrick in NY, Charles in Philly, Stockton/Malone in Utah, Dream in Houston. I loved the Charlotte/Bulls matchups back in the 90's when LJ/Alonzo/Mugsy were playing.

Exactly that was his reason behind the new cba basically saying each market will have a star and will be able to keep their star.

Saying the NBA was at its best when it had more competitve teams. He said he is not against stars teaming up but it won't be under the old rules.

Will Chris Paul sign 5 million to play with the knicks when amare and melo are making 17 plus???? You heard the knicks owner and gm basically acknowledging they may not be able to get another star with this new cba but he also said they don't really need one.

Memphis owner isn't even sure he can keep Gasol thanks to this new cba proposed.

Know the expression don't hate the player hate game?? Owners trying to change the game since they hate the players

Your 100 percent right. If the mavs win this series all of a sudden Dirk will be called the greatest white player ever and be bumped into the top ten by analyst who force feed most fans their opinions.

If the Heat win for the rest of the year any team that beats them in the regular season is getting on the ESPN for props. On top of the fact that if a team can beat them into the post season Next they will become America's heroes for however long they themselves survive in the playoffs.

On the flip though I got to agree with Killa I don't see why the League wants a hard cap but dude filing that paper work for unfair business practices means its a done deal Stern's not budging. Idk how this is all gonna end but people better hope for a 7 game series because thats it for a while at best I see a repeat of 99 at worse maybe the players knowing whats coming hold out for an entire year.

The compromise will probably be a gradual change which means this will probably be one of two last years you see the MLE though who knows maybe the league agree's to let teams go over the Hard cap to sign their Franchise Player. Allowing each team that one person who you can keep and build around.

And yeah the team owners are obviously salty about the Heat it makes you think maybe they take the title Owner to literally.....

They find themselves in a tough spot. Unless they allow another team to stack up...its going to be tough to dethrone the Heat. I had them championship level in year 2, they already there in year 1. The hard cap better break them up or it will be hell trying to beat them.

I think we can lay a blue print in the Finals by having a better team, but more teams need to look within when it comes to building a team instead of hoping stern can bail them out. Get a philosophy & get players that fit that mold. Draft well, sign the right FAs @ the right price to have the best role players. Owners also have to want to be competitive & not just look to turn profits **cough**Donald Sterling**cough**

The owners are salty because the players actually made a choice for themselves, and the last thing owners want is players controlling their own destinies. The public can't see the okeedoke that the owners are pulling over them.

That is their only issue and if people actually listen to the talking points then they would get it. Actually, controlling your own destiny is pivotal in a democratic society, but sports are tyrannical in its nature. Despite them getting paid, there is this master/slave mentality that exists in sports. Fans and owners feel they own these players and can dictate what they do, and where they decide to lend their services(labor).

If guys were smart, they'd counter whatever this new CBA is about to be by taking one year deals.

I agree. Those in power devise mad schemes and hire many people to think of ways to stay in power. The plan is not to stop uber teams, but to make sure owners stop kicking out all that loot. Squashing another Big 3 is a by product.

With that said, I don't think that this trend will kill the league. It is actually going to make it better. I have not watched Basketball for 7 years. This year I watched to see how the Knicks, Celtics, Heat and Bulls faired. I even watched most of the playoffs. I hate highschoolers and 1- and -donez being the face of the League. This was a good and entertaining season. There was drama for once. I ain't mad. I hope Dwight goes to he Lakers. I hop CP3 goes to the Knicks. I live Rivalry's. I want to see Carmello and LeBron go at it with evenly matched teams. That's the real NBA to me. The small market teams will survive. OKC got Durant locked up and he is not complaining. The Spurs were boring as hell but they won championships. I'm straight.

Everyone is speculating now. June 3rd is a crucial date for the entire NBA. That is the date an Appeals court will rule on whether the NFL can lockout the decertified NFL players.

If the Appellate court rules in favor for the Players, then NFL business can be conducted contemporaneously to working out a new CBA. If the Court rules for the owners, then a "Free Market" Free agency situation is averted and no NFL business can be conducted without a CBA.

The NBA Players and Owners are watching intently as that ruling will effectively determine which faction has the most leverage. Stern is for the owners, but if federal law mandates that NBA business must go on while a new CBA is worked out, worst case scenario is a non-CBA season! The league has a parity issue now, imagine if their was no CBA and each team could spend to their hearts content!

Look to June 3rd people..

Doesn't really matter the players are fucked either way. If the judge rules in their favor, expect the owners to shut down the NFL & fire everyone. Barring a miracle, its going to look bad that the players turned down that original deal because either way the owners can & will shut the league down until they get what they want.

Truth. I'm certain owners have a sense of ownership in every sense of the word when it comes to the players. What's the value of the Cavs after Lebron's departure? Owners despise the fact that players are choosing to leave with out their say so and they're trying to do something about it.

That's not how it works as the NFL is not a single entity. It is partnership / business association composed of 32 different singular entities. They are not exempt from antitrust claims, and collusion is illegal.

If all 32 teams agree to terminate their partnership agreement amongst the owners, then all contracts, including the very lucrative TV and video game deals, are in breach and the owners would be on the hook for a whooping amount. Trust, the NFL won't agree to terminate the owner partnership agreement.

If they lose on the 3rd, it will be doomsday.

I been following this since it was rumor that a hard cap of 48 million could happen.
I will be honest I was pissed nets finally gets an owner who is willing to spend and now won't be able to. We would have near 20 million in cap space but now it will be 12.

Stern isn't backing down and the players filing that unfair practice just showed they don't want to have a lockout.

This sucks for the knicks honestly a big three of cp3 amare and melo would be great ratings wise and business wise but stern is cncern about the disgruntle owners.

The twolves who fucked up very pick they had

Utah who has never been able to draw free agents

Look at some of these owners Portland was actually pissed that cho kept them competitve.

The owner is pissed because he has over spent on a first round exit team.

My nets ain't no better we would have 25 million if our dumb ass coach didn't sign outlaw to 7 million deal for 5 years.

We lucky Dallas has to resign chandler and jj and will have haywood on the books

If they lose on the 3rd, it will be doomsday.

No it won't, this is a labor dispute, the League is not in jeopardy. All the ruling will decide is whether NFL business can go on without a Collective Bargaining Agreement.

The CBA is an agreement between the NFL and the NFLPA governing every aspect of NFL and player business. This facilitates transactions between the parties, such as the signing of players to the respective teams. A consequence of a CBA-less league is that each team, as a separate business entity, can agree to sign a player to a contract that is not uniform to any other contract. For instance, if I sign HNIC to run my server, I can contract with him for $100K yearly, but at anytime I reserve the right to terminate the contract and I am only on the hook for a prorated amount. Conversely, you may offer HNIC a $100MM yearly deal with a guaranteed $80MM payout even if HNIC only does one year and a day's worth of work.

It's not certain whether the NFL or NBA can actually perform a 17 week / 82 game season without a CBA. The June 3rd case revolves around "NFL related business" such as workouts, drafts, trades, training, game prep, and other ancillary issues. I'm not sure if it specifically states whether a CBA-less season is feasible, that is probably a subsequent lawsuit..

**EDIT**

Here's a good summary: "If the judges rule for the Brady v. NFL plaintiffs, the league will be required to resume personnel moves and player practices toward an on-time start to the regular season. A ruling in favor of the NFL would be a major blow to players who will begin missing paychecks in September if the season is delayed or even canceled. Such a decision also may prompt players to pressure NFLPA executive director DeMaurice Smith into accepting an NFL deal." http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/NFL-Roger-Goodell-explains-lockout-cba-at-owners-meeting-052511

This is "merely" a leverage issue. The NFL and NBA aren't going anywhere.
