no they didn't. deshaun stevenson gave him cushion to shoot over the top. shorter defenders can't do that because they don't have enough reaction time to both (a) close the gap and (b) bother the release. one or the other, but not both.
corey brewer was just scared. his D positioning was horrific, given the assignment. (poor) defensive posture (in a crouch), PLUS cushion. again, resulting in (a) distance between shooter and defender and (b) a height advantage in terms of release point (due to the crouch). again, a defender whose job is to challenge the outside shot can give up one, but not both.
if a defender gives up BOTH (cushion and height) at that point it becomes a game of HORSE, with EASY shots over the top of the D.
tyson chandler and to a lesser extent brendan haywood have their backs at the rim on penetration. those players need to follow the D game plan and pressure the outside shot, and have blind faith that the rotation will help them recover.

So who plays perfect D against Kobe??? Man, they played good D. Kobe hit 18ft+ jumpers on them. Have at it. Brewer hadn't played since the last game of the regular season. He came in, got his hand on a few balls, sparked a few breaks, got a couple of baskets. Those were good minutes for him.
