big time crack and heroin dealers make a lot of money too, and keep money in the pockets of black folks that work them corners, but it doesn’t excuse their negative impact on our community.

Yes, I agree with Spike Lee 100% on this issue. Tyler Perry sells coonery and buffoonery and get’s paid. His excuse is because he makes so much money and employs black actors, this justifies his simplistic and stereotypical brand of comedy. But real talk, big time crack and heroin dealers make a lot of money too, and keep money in the pockets of black folks that work them corners, but it doesn’t excuse their negative impact on our community. Big evil corporations like Wal Mart make a lot of money and employ a lot of people, but they flood the market with cheap goods squeezing out smaller companies that make quality products that are actually worth purchasing.

Spike Lee will go down in history as one of the most important film directors of our time. Not only for his certified classics like “Malcolm X” and “Bamboozled“, but also because he was never afraid to take on issues that made us uncomfortable like Willie Lynch (School Daze), racism (Do the Right Thing) and interracial relationships (Jungle Fever). That doesn’t even include his two documentaries on Hurricane Katrina, “When The Levees Broke” and “If God Is Willing and Da Creek Don’t Rise“, and one of my personal favorite movies, “Inside Man“.

Tyler Perry has an incredible personal story. I am extremely happy to see a brother go from being homeless to being a multi-millionaire that owns a jet and a movie studio. In fact, Tyler’s journey would make his best movie by far! But we haven’t seen that picture, just the same tired formula with Perry rocking a wig and a dress. Perry will go down in history as a guy that made a whole lot of money making a bunch plays that he made into crappy movies and TV shows. Not to mention that he produced “Precious” and “For Colored Girls” two of the worst depictions of black people to ever hit the big screen. Hey Tyler, I got a screenplay about a black man who’s an illiterate, child molesting, serial killer that drowns puppies in his spare time. I think it would be perfect for your next movie.

There’s a reason you will never and I mean EVER see Denzel Washington in a Tyler Perry movie.

Me and my brother fellow MC, Tahir Jahi, recently addressed the negative portrayal of Black men and women in our song “Remote Control” featuring some sobering words from Spike Lee. Let me know what yall think.

I hope we never see that; Hell, Denzel probably has already turned down Perry scripts....Speaking of that, last time we saw Denzel was when he sat his ass on a train the whole time....where is he:lol:?

Don't be too sure.

You'll never know what actors resort to when the scripts stop coming.

Then again if TP can squeeze an Oscar out of one of his flicks he'll be unstoppable.:smh:

Of course not. Denzel's salary would eat up the whole budget!! :smh:

Tyler Perrry's films are about giving UNDER-used (and under-appreciated) black actors and actresses work.

yea man, for some reason most of his movies just seem the same. Like if you seen one, you seen all of them. Just my opinion

Although this topic has been done to death, a simple analogy that I doubt anyone can disagree with.

Tyler Perry films = Fast Food; Easily accessible, not nourishing to the body, same reprocessed ingredients not good to the body in the long term a diet on it will do more harm than good.

Spike Lee films= Restaurant Food: A lot of care is taken into the process, a wide variety, food for thought and in the long run is more rewarding.

As I said, they both have their own audiences but at least Tyler knows his limitations. But anytime someone points out the negative aspects of Tyler's movies they're called a 'hater'.

I came in here thinking Denzel said some shit like that. But its just another flawed opinion.

Never say never...I bet anything that Denzel will be in a TP movie in the near future.

Yet somehow Spike convinces Denzel to work with him.

If TP took time to write better shit, maybe Denzel would volunteer him services.

But why fuck with the built in gravy train?

bottom line TP sitcoms are terribly unfunny and his movies just don't entertain me....especially with the cross dressing....put the dress down mofo EVOLVE ALREADY....

Most Blacks no matter what is being sold as long as "you get paid" thats all that matters....drug dealers, pimps etc....

I respect TP's hustle and he gives jobs to other blacks which is cool...but I'm not spending money to support mediocrity...

So using the mickey mouse logic in the "Spike Lee can go to Hell" thread

Denzel = Broke BGOL Lurker

or ... or ... maybe HE'S a hater too ... washed up like Spike Lee

I think its more about having an affordable payroll. He knonws his films are going to make $35 - $60 million. So keep his films at $5 - $7 million works best.

I not a fan of his work, but I like his financial model.

I understand the OP's original point, but I think it's a bad analogy based on an erroneous assumption. It's not the war on drugs that does the damage to the black community. The amount of non-fuctional addicts pales in comparison the amount of AA's who are marginalized by non-violent drug offences. Fucked up thing is that non blacks comnsume most of the drugs !!

this article is some bullshit

a cheap way of connecting to iconic black hollywood figures and stir up some controversy

how about working hard and busting your ass to make it...don't go the michaelangelo/perez hilton route :smh:

Man what the fuck is wrong with black people. We clown the brotha because he makes comedies...are you kidding me? So every inspiring black movie writer/director has to make oppression movies?

I am so tired of weak minded niggas worrying about what white people think. Listen up clearly... STOP WORRYING ABOUT WHAT CRACKAS THINK. You ever wondered why the black community lack funds and development...it is because of you dumb as niggas running around with a crabs in a barrel mentality. White people got some of you so shook until you question your own blackness. You are afraid to even laugh.:smh:

The grip that these crackas have on some of you is so strong until you are programmed to believe that you are really oppressed and disadvantaged. We got a brotha kicking the walls down and taking over a industry that has over looked us for years. Instead of supporting the brotha we have simple minded niggas who will keep everyone from eating. With the success of Tyler maybe we can get a brotha who produces action & adventure movies or the next great sci-fi trilogy.

@ 7:10 CLASSIC!

Now thats what i'm talking about!

1 million filck;that produce nothing but gold!

Tyler Perry ficks cost $5 million bucks each and you get nothing but cow shit!

Fuck Tyler Perry and people who act in his movies!

The Spike Lee/Tyler Perry Beef Needs To End.

But what I find hypocritical is that until Lee made that statement in 2009 he didn't and still hasn't called out other filmmakers and actors for their stereotypical portrayals of black life. For some reason, Spike has ignored or overlooked people like Ice Cube, whose own films aren't exactly sterling representations of black people. Most recently his last film Lottery Ticket which was nothing but a parade of stereotyped ghetto living. How about Martin Lawrence, is Big Momma really that much different from Madea? What about the Wayans whose stock and trade for the last 15 years have been showcasing black stereotypes. Chris Rock, whats the difference between Pootie Tang and Buckwheat? Even Dave Chappelle whose social commentary on race can be biting began to notice it was having the opposite affect he was going for by the third season of his highly rated show.

Spike Lee hasn't made one reference or comment to any of these people and they're all just as guilty (if you want to point a finger and assign guilt) as Perry.

What I also find incredibly hypocritical is that like Tyler Perry, Spike is prone to have obvious morals and messages in his films. And while I like Lee's films more than Perry's, Spike can be just as preachy and I find that a bit annoying. School Daze literally had Lawrence Fishburne screaming for black people to wake up for the last minute of the film. MESSAGE! And that's not the only one.

No. It's about finding talent that Doesn't have the power to negotiate star salaries.

Also, he knows his films will do well at the box office and they go for madea, not some secondary star.

There is always someone willing to put Black vs. Black, I will never understand it. Both Directors are successful and in an industry that does not have many successful black directors they should be respecting the fact that people are going to see their damn movies.

That is why we cant get anywhere. Do you see Steven Spielberg making comments about John Cameron movies hell no. But they are probably both sitting back laughing at these two fools going at each other. :smh::smh::smh::smh:
