MELO IS A KNICK baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Are Knicks trying to win now? And I mean RIGHT NOW? I was under the impression that they were willing to wait for Chris Paul and Deron like they waited for Melo.

come on fam, even cleveland went out there every night trying to get a W. they're willing to wait and hopefully they can BUILD a championship team in the near future, but I wouldn't bet the spare change and lint in my pocket against you're crisp $20 that we're going to take it

It's because aside from NY and a few select cities in this country, everywhere else is a shithole that doesn't even come close to New York. And most them niccas are from those shitholes, and they salty.

Amen....

Might as well.

Even franchise players need fellow stars to win rings. Thats the only way to do it.

Pistons, Spurs and Celtics might disagree with you there. The best teams win championships. Lakers may have one of the best players in basketball but the Lakers also have a GREAT team. If the Heat or the Knicks are gonna win a championship they need to build a team first.

the year Detroit won the title they didnt have nothing really but some good role players. San Antonio get mostof their star players from overseas, they know how to play team ball.

Props to Melo.

I guess this will be the new thing to do in the future. Top stars going to team up with others.

Yup. The new motto is if you can't beat 'em, join cats on a different team. Seems like all the top stars are going to the East though. If I'm not mistaken, the West is only gonna have Blake Griffin and Kevin Durant as future top stars.

I didnt say you need a franchise player to win. I said you need to stack stars to win.

Boston,, LA and SA all have 3 guys who could be selected as all stars any given season. That Pistons team was different though.

You do need the right role players to fill out the roster of course. In Miami's case I think they are close. In NY's case I question the coaching.

let's be real, they're still not "better" than the hawks, heat, celts, bulls and magic ... imo :dunno:

Nah..theyre not. But theyre not far away.

IMO the Knicks just went from almost the worse defensive team in th NBA to the worse. They gave a way one of the few good defenders that they had and got back nothing in return defensive wise.. They also gave a way a lot of points. But I think the reason they traded Felton and the others is because theyre prepping for next years FA's.

I hope they dont try to burn Melo and Amare out this year to make up for the points that they dont get from other players a la the Heat. They aint winning nothing this year anyways a la the Heat, so If I were in control of the Knicks organization Id take it easy on my franchise players.

BTW...Dont get caught up in stats and names, the success of this trade is yet to be seen. If they dont sign another big name during the off season, help Melo develop into a better player & get a new coach that doesnt focus on offense only then this trade will be a failure IMO. Also keep i mind that Billups didnt really want to go to another team. So yea....wait and see.

But anyways...congrats to the Knicks for starting to do what my Bulls have recently accomplished i.e. build and good young team, get put back in the spotlight and not being the laughing stock of the East.

This off season is gonna be big for both of us IMO. From what Ive heard the Bulls aint about to trade this year. The Bulls are holding off to get a legit SG during FA. Either signing or a sign and trade. But when its all said and done the Knicks will still have to bow down to us....just like during the Jordan era. Why? Well because we're better :D

Starting next season NY will be better than Atlanta. Book it. Their range will be from 3-6 depending on how the team chemistry is.

Re: MELO

if denver can pull off the final act and do the trade for new jersey's 1st round picks, they will have put themselves in a pretty good spot.

nuggets fans could be happy again if they could unload kenyon martin and jr smith.

Fuck the nyets!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope the ny knicks put a poster of amare and carmelo in new jersey by the prudential center.

Ha.

I clearly take sports too seriously, because I could not live in New York or Boston and support their teams. I'd feel like a trader.

ESPECIALLY not Boston.

I still hate the Knicks stemming back from that dirty assed ball they used to play with MJ.

It's like they forgot they need a bench...I know Melo/Nuggets/Nets was putting pressure for the trade to happen but I would've liked to see the Knicks wait and therefore give up as few pieces as possible only due to the cap...they would've had a serious fuckin bench w/ Melo + Stoudamire still...now THAT woulda been sick + I think Felton woulda flourished more as a pg w/ Melo as another go to guy and not having to worry about scoring himself...anyway time will tell

Everyone keeps acting like this will guarantee wins and a championship for The KNICKS and shit.

Yeah.
They're my Home Team.
And I want the BEST for them.
But the hype surrounding this comes off a bit unrealistic.

And it's like they forgot about defense.

:yes::yes:

For all of y'all saying that this is a bad move, you're wrong. New York has the ability to play spoilers this year. They are obviously going to get another point guard next year. They were barely at 500 with the players they had. Superstars win champions

You forget that none of the dudes they traded was shit last year, them cats flourished under D'Antoni and his system so the coach obviously doing something right, because no way we could've traded for anthony last year with that same package. Anyway it's not like we just got Billups and Anthony, who's to say one or a couple of the other cats we acquired from Denver can't do the same under D'Antoni. My money's on Corey Brewer though, dude is mad athletic and plays some good D. And Earl Barron who averaged a double-double for us last year will be a Knick by the end of the week.

Not so fast.

CAN KNICKS ADD 3RD STAR IN 2012?
By Chad Ford

The New York Knicks gutted their roster on Monday evening to acquire Carmelo Anthony from the Denver Nuggets.

ESPN.com is reporting that, according to sources, the Knicks will send Wilson Chandler, Raymond Felton, Danilo Gallinari, Timofey Mozgov, the Knicks' first-round draft pick in 2014 or later, the Warriors' 2012 second-round pick, the Warriors' 2013 second-round pick and $3 million in cash to Denver for Chauncey Billups, Shelden Williams, Anthony Carter and Renaldo Balkman. The Knicks will also send Anthony Randolph and Eddy Curry to the Timberwolves in exchange for Corey Brewer as part of the deal.

Knicks fans are understandably excited. New York has been desperate for a star player for years and now, after being rejected by LeBron James this summer, it has two legit All-Stars in Anthony and Amare Stoudemire.

But will the duo be enough to make the Knicks a contender in the East?

One Eastern Conference GM is skeptical. "They have two very good scorers. Billups will help them as well. But after those three, the Knicks are very, very thin, especially up front," he said. "They won't match up well with the Celtics, Magic, Bulls or Hawks. The Heat don't have much of a frontcourt either, but their big three is better than the Knicks'.

"I'm not sure this move puts [New York] much higher than a fifth or sixth seed in the East this season or the next. After next season, I don't think the Knicks have enough cap room or assets to add another major player. I think they're stuck."

Given the Knicks' woes over the past few seasons, a playoff appearance -- any playoff appearance -- will be a cause for celebration. But after the excitement wears off, the bigger question is, can the Knicks add another piece to make them serious title contenders?

The common theory has the Knicks making a play for Chris Paul, Deron Williams or even Dwight Howard in the summer of 2012. It's a nice dream. And if you believe the rumors, it sounds like Paul and Williams would both like to join Melo and Stoudemire in Gotham.

But there's one problem: Under every scenario I could come up with, the Knicks are unlikely to have the money to make a competitive offer to a major free agent next summer or possess the assets to trade for him beforehand.

First, we have to assume that, until we hear otherwise, Anthony will sign a max extension with New York. (If Knicks general manger Donnie Walsh can talk him into taking considerably less, then this picture begins to change.)

The Knicks are expected to have four players -- Anthony (at a little more than $20 million), Stoudemire (at a little less than $20 million), Balkman ($1.7 million) and Toney Douglas ($2 million) -- under contract in the 2012 offseason, adding up to about $44 million in payroll. And that does not include Landry Fields, who will be a restricted free agent that summer, or the Knicks' 2011 first-round draft pick. If the Knicks keep and commit to both, the payroll will be several million higher. If not, the Knicks will also have to account for another eight minimum cap holds (assuming that the new salary cap rules require cap holds, which is likely) to reach the required 12-man roster. That would raise their projected cap another $2.5 million, putting them around $46.5 million.

Assuming the salary cap in 2012 is the same that it is this season ($58 million), the Knicks would be looking at $11.5 million in cap space in 2012. However, no one thinks the cap will stay the same. With the owners asking for major concessions from the players in the new collective bargaining session, the cap will most likely be considerably lower.

Even if the NBA lowers the maximum salary that players like Paul, Williams or Howard can make in 2012 or if it rolls back salaries on existing contracts, it's highly unlikely the Knicks will have the cap space to pay them anything close to the max. Virtually any lowering of salaries is likely to be proportional to the drop in the cap. So, at best, the Knicks will have $11.5 million in cap space. At worst, it could be considerably less.
That's a pretty big obstacle, but not an impossible one to overcome. There are other ways of acquiring elite talent.

The Knicks could also try to do what they did with Anthony and make a trade at next season's trade deadline for one of the elite free agents. But the problem with that idea is that they have even less to work with than they did this season. New York won't have a first-round pick they can offer until, at best, 2016 (league rules prohibit teams from trading picks in consecutive years). So what could the Knicks offer a team like the Hornets, Jazz or Magic?

Billups' expiring contract would be a possible lure. So would be Fields', if he continues to develop. But after that, the Knicks' cupboard is pretty bare now that they've used their best assets to acquire Anthony. Some have suggested that the Knicks could start stockpiling draft picks by essentially buying them from teams who need to save money. But typically those picks are in the late first round and aren't especially attractive to other teams.

So while fans may be celebrating the arrival of another star to the Big Apple, luring one more and building a contender will be much tougher. In the short term, the team has achieved respectability, added two All-Star talents and even created some sizzle. But in the long term, the team still lacks the critical assets to be a true title contender.
If Knicks fans are happy with 45-to-50 wins per season and a likely first-round exit from the playoffs, then this was a winning move. But for all the Knicks fans who say that nothing but a title contender will make them happy, this deal may have actually put their team further from their goal than they think.
