Los Angeles (Listeni/lɔːs ˈændʒələs/, /lɔːs ˈæŋɡələs/ or Listeni/lɒs ˈændʒəliːz/; Spanish: [los ˈaŋxeles], which is written Los Ángeles, Spanish for The Angels), officially the City of Los Angeles, often known by its initials L.A., is the most populous city in the U.S. state of California and the second-most populous in the United States, after New York City, with a population at the 2010 United States Census of 3,792,621.[4] It has an area of 469 square miles (1,215 km2), and is located in Southern California.
The city is the focal point of the larger Los Angeles–Long Beach–Santa Ana metropolitan statistical area and Greater Los Angeles Area region, which contain 12,828,837 and nearly 18 million people respectively as of 2010, making it one of the most populous metropolitan areas in the world[5] and the second-largest in the United States.[6] Los Angeles is also the seat of Los Angeles County, the most populated and one of the most ethnically diverse counties[7] in the United States, while the entire Los Angeles area itself has been recognized as the most diverse of the nation's largest cities.[8] The city's inhabitants are referred to as Angelenos.[9]
Los Angeles was founded on September 4, 1781, by Spanish governor Felipe de Neve.[10] It became a part of Mexico in 1821 following the Mexican War of Independence.[11] In 1848, at the end of the Mexican–American War, Los Angeles and the rest of California were purchased as part of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, thereby becoming part of the United States.[12] Los Angeles was incorporated as a municipality on April 4, 1850, five months before California achieved statehood.[13]
Nicknamed the City of Angels, Los Angeles is a global city, with strengths in business, international trade, entertainment, culture, media, fashion, science, sports, technology, education, medicine and research and has been ranked sixth in the Global Cities Index and 9th Global Economic Power Index. The city is home to renowned institutions covering a broad range of professional and cultural fields and is one of the most substantial economic engines within the United States. The Los Angeles combined statistical area (CSA) has a gross metropolitan product (GMP) of $831 billion (as of 2008), making it the third-largest in the world, after the Greater Tokyo and New York metropolitan areas.[14] Los Angeles includes Hollywood and leads the world in the creation of television productions, video games, and recorded music; it is also one of the leaders in motion picture production.[15] Additionally, Los Angeles hosted the Summer Olympic Games in 1932 and 1984.

San Diego /ˌsæn diːˈeɪɡoʊ/ is a major city in California, on the coast of the Pacific Ocean in Southern California, approximately 120 miles (190 km) south of Los Angeles and immediately adjacent to the border with Mexico. San Diego is the eighth largest city in the United States and second largest in California and is one of the fastest growing cities in the nation.[2] San Diego is the birthplace of California[3] and is known for its mild year-round climate, natural deep-water harbor, extensive beaches, long association with the U.S. Navy, and recent emergence as a healthcare and biotechnology development center. The population was estimated to be 1,322,553 as of 2012.[4] San Diego was ranked as the 20th safest city in America in 2013, by Business Insider.[5]
Historically home to the Kumeyaay people, San Diego was the first site visited by Europeans on what is now the West Coast of the United States. Upon landing in San Diego Bay in 1542, Juan Cabrillo claimed the entire area for Spain, forming the basis for the settlement of Alta California 200 years later. The Presidio and Mission of San Diego, founded in 1769, formed the first European settlement in what is now California. In 1821, San Diego became part of newly independent Mexico, and in 1850, became part of the United States following the Mexican-American War and the admission of California to the union.
The city is the seat of San Diego County and is the economic center of the region as well as the San Diego–Tijuana metropolitan area. San Diego's main economic engines are military and defense-related activities, tourism, international trade, and manufacturing. The presence of the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), with the affiliated UCSD Medical Center, has helped make the area a center of research in biotechnology.

Los Angeles has a gang of homeless people. It's sad. There's a huge divide of haves and have nots in that city.

Downtown SD, you'll see people dishing out casseroles to the homeless on the streets. It's way more personable here. But at the same time, there are arrogant folks like the "don't feed the bums" movement in Ocean Beach.

Yea man our downtown is truly on some bullshit.

Two days ago I went to the dispensary not too far from where skid row is, and just 3 or floor blocks down the road you've got the hipster white kids living in the newly build codos and lofts.

It's a huge divide of the haves & have nots. No even much of a middle class dtown.

San Diego is just as expensive as LA in living expenses. LA has a better nightlife with Hollywood, Santa Monica, and parts of Long Beach. San Diego has the Gas Lamp District which fuck'n sucks. San Diego is a very pretty city, but it doesn't have shit LA doesn't have except a Mexico Boarder nobody wants to cross anymore.

San Diego is the most boring shithole south of Bakersfield. But it does have redeeming qualities such as the best beaches in all of Cali. But if you are trying to make things happen, Dego IS NOT where you want to be. while I don't like L.A. it presents the most money making opportunities out of any city in Cali.

Man you ain't never lied, I thought the homelessness was bad here in NY. NY don't hold a fuckin candle to LA.

Damn. It's like that in Frisco too. One block can be totally different than the next. Downtown LA is a cool place but that homeless situation is crazy. It's like a whole 'nother population. I damn near walked onto a homeless dude because he was asleep in the middle of the pavement with a blanket that camouflaged the cement.

LA and LA County is a great place though. Full of ambitious people with a lot of activity. Different turfs, mentalities and populations. Both great IMO.

 That man said the Gaslamp District "sucks." Wow.

Word? That's good because man . . .:smh:

I visited LA briefly, and it seemed interesting.

Unfortunately, talking to people about LA is like talking to someone with multiple personality disorder. How can a city be greater than NYC, and the next person say it's a lame shithole?

My brain cannot reconcile this.

In all honestly...

Fuck what everyone says & just go out and experience it for yourself and draw your own conclusions.

Everyone is different and has their own opinions. Only way to have one of your own is to visit for yourself and not briefly if you can help it.

What did you and/or your peoples do while you visited? LA County is very versatile. From Santa Monica to playing ball outside of USC. The Grove during Christmas. There are so many dimensions. Where did you go?

I don't doubt that, but...

...you'd think a city the size of LA would have something for EVERY ONE. So, how it could be considered lame by someone, and 'up there with NYC' is beyond me.

But, I understand what you're saying. It's just that when asking for advice, you wish the advice was more consistent. Sites like city-data.com have just confused the shit out of me.

I don't know if gangs in LA are running the city, or if they are not at all what they used to be. It can't be both, but I hear both ALL THE TIME.

As far as chicks, I can't lie and say that SD has more bitches than LA. But as a whole, SD is a much nicer city. It's right next to the border, but their are far more mexicans in LA. SD is just a much better city. My opinion is that, because it is smaller, it's easer to find shit to do. Not to mention, it's a military town.

Man I really  when I hear about the gang shit.

If you're not in the area and don't talk reckless to strangers then you're fine.

It's too many hoes out here to be worried about what these lame ass gang members are doing.

It's winter we've got 75 degree days & bitches in daisy dukes.:D:dance:

Visit sites like fusicology.com and yelp.com to give you an idea of laidback lounges and bars to go to. But honestly man, LA has something for EVERYONE. No matter if you're black, white, yellow, or green. All depends on where you look.

Clowns were getting on my case about shittin on Oakland claiming that my opinion was biased but at least Dego and L.A. have some redeeming value. L.A. definitely has the market cornered on beautiful women. I like the Black Valley Girls myself, they have that white girl slutty exuberance. The best of both worlds.

When I was out in LA, I felt deprived.

Dude, for real, I'm from the damned country. Every woman I know is either fat, almost fat, or ultimately will be fat. So, in an city - based on MY experience - where 'thin is in', it's only natural that I'd feel out of place.

I didn't see all the fake boobs everyone claimed I'd see, but I certainly didn't see much ass-meat.

That is a must for me.

Smaller county is correct. Easier access to different flavors. You have Mira Mesa with the pinays, Kearny with the mix and National City with the latinas. Easily 20 mins from each other.

And cats sleep on Coronado. That place is cool too.

Am a right in saying that SD is the place to be if you want a shitload of attractive white chicks and L.A. is the place to be if you want a lot of attractive chicks of every race?
