Broken Bat is the very beginning of this story right?

i havent read the issues before this, so why is batman ill?

and why does it jump from the Batman Comics to Detective Comics to Showcase to Shadow of the Bat?

Actually the story takes place a few issue before it starts. The TPB only covers the books that were LABELED as part of the storyline.
