If enough of us switched to Metro PCS we could bring phone prices down

Metro PCS now covers the entire country, and has pretty much the same coverage area as the so-called major carriers. The beauty of it is that Metro is the most honest phone company in the world. You pay one fee every month, you use everything you have paid for as much as you want. I have the world calling plan. This means I call my relatives in Canada and Europe as if I am making a call to my friend in Dallas Ft Worth. I also make calls to Africa for free as long as they are to landlines...

I pay $2 for directory assistance, and not only do they verbally tell me the number, but they text it, the name of the person or business, and the address right away, and I can use this 7x77x... times every month. This is to say nothing of unlimited picture and text messaging, IM etc..All this is exactly $61 month, taxes included..

Now, they have rolled out 4G in Dallas for an additional $10 a month. If you do not need international calling, you can subtract $10, and get 4G for $61, taxes included...

They plan to have 4G everywhere by years end....

If enough of us would stop regarding cellphones as status symbols whose value is enhanced by the names of the carrier, and made economical value decisions based on coverage and service...we would all be better off..

In 3 years of being with Metro, I have had less than 10 dropped calls, 2 of them being last week when I was driving through Wiley TX...

The CEO of Metro, an old engineer, famously proclaimed that Metro is on a mission to drive cellphone prices down. He stated that from a technical point of view, the information travels multiplexed together on the same channels...

Metro PCS is the shit. My blackberry is with them and I never have a problem. Not sure why more people pay extra money for another service

ARE driving mobile costs down in the us. trust if it werent for those guys, the avg bill would hover around $130/month or so by now.

I used to have a metro phone as a secondary number & I liked it, but when I moved into my new house, metro didn't get service in my subdivision. Nobody with a metro can get service over here. Metro was cool, but their phones were cheap as hell. I know people now that can flash just about any smartphone to work with metro, so I guess that issue is a thing of the past, but metro still has work to do as far as their coverage area goes. I know people that travel & they still complain about metro not working in certain areas.

they need better phones.

This is the only draw back... but perhaps you can talk to the gentleman who had success flashing the good phones from Sprint to Metro about that. Also, keep in mind that since Metro if CDMA, you can flash any Sprint, Verizon or Alltel phone to Metro, theoretically. This means that as soon as someone produces the correct prl, the Iphone could be on Metro as well...The reason why there is a limited number of phones is that you pay for the full cost of the phone and the prices can be hefty.

I would love more infomation on this "flashing".

boost mobile is the shit
$50/month

Yea what some people also dont know is that there's a company called straight talk wireless that uses verizons network.

so if you dont need and all typa advanced smartphone features it's $45/ month unlimited talk and text. can not beat being on the most reliable network, unlimited for that price.

Don't forget Virgin Mobile. I have a recreational phone I pay $30 per month for which gives me 1500 minutes + 500 text and 10 MB Web access per month.

Call quality is fair. Not bad if you ask me...

.

if my iphone worked on metro I would have switched a long time ago...for now Im stuck in shitty AT&T until the cdma iphone 5 comes out

The door is gonna open with the CDMA Iphone that Verizon has...basically, someone has to write the prl that allows the Iphone to connect on the Metro network...Of course there is the
question of getting the ESN number of the Iphone on the Metro
database, but I hear there are people who can do that...But
under no circumstance should you allow them to clone an ESN
because that is illegal...

yea people dont realize that you can basically get the same service as the big carriers.

true i forgot about them.

Hell no.

1. They cover 90% of the US, not the entire country. That 10% is still a pretty substantial amount.

2. Their 4G speeds just match current 3G speeds, that is 3-4 megs. They freely say they aren't trying to compete with the big boys when it comes to that.

3. MetroPCS is the first company to try to do away with net neutrality. If you want the full internet, that's $60. Oh you only want to pay $40, you can only get webpages and youtube. http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/12/metropcs-alleged-to-be-violating-net-neutrality-rules-with-new-l/

Also, why are you paying for directory assistance? That's what google is for.

good thread. sparked some thoughts.

1. their service definately needs improvement!

2.its kinda give & take, 'cause you have to pay full price
for phone. its contract vs. no contract. do i want to pay
500$ & have a 40-60$/mo. bill. or pay 95$(what i pay on at&t(25%discount,regularly 120$), get my phone for 200$ & be
locked in for 2yrs.

3.once agn give & take. 40-60/mo unlimited EVERYTHING, but
not so great coverage. or pay more for better service, w/no unlimited.

i thought about doing this. HOW exactly is the internet on metro using this phone? can you use all the features of the phone with metro?

this
I know people with these phones ..
Inside the city they are
Drive 5 miles outside the city all I hear .. no serves can I use your phone

All I give them is this :hmm:

Guess you all have Cricket like most of the bottom.

True fact: Cricket and MetroPCS let each other roam on each other's network, however there is no guarantee of speed of data. This is how both are able to say they have nationwide coverage. All Cricket is planning on doing with LTE for right now is hotspots however as they still are kind of cash strapped.
