Even the parts about Jay, jumping from crew to crew and looking to Nas for a co-sign before he made it big? And the part about Jay eating that knife charge on Lance instead of one of his minions eating it for him? The part about Jay saying he was better than BIG? Jay trading his soul for riches? Jay having an entire label behind him while Nas was solo?
True, but thats the most memorable quote and it wasnt even directed at Nas.
That's a bad thing that The Roc had actual rappers and the Bravehearts didn't?Why are people saying em got jay on renegade? It wasn't a diss record. Who cares which verse was better?

Aight, fuck it, here they are. Listen to both in order and then tell me which is better...
After Takeover dropped it seemed there was no way Nas could respond or recover, not only does Nas respond but he buries Jay-z totally. Ether did damage to Jay on so many levels, before it Jay was seen as untouchable after it his armour had been dented badly. Remember Jay on the Hot 97 coppin' pleas, he could not even articulate his words ('um I mean, ah um very vulgar, um wow, um uneasy) when has ever been that vulnerable publicly, even his biggest stan Angie Martinez was looking at him sideways.
Ether totally changed the way Jay approached beef no longer was he eager to engage any and every rapper, he now choose his tragets carefully. Hell lyrically we know he is better than 50 and Game but he knows they too can bury him and unlike Nas they won't stop, hence why he won't respond.
He's even bigger now.Why are people saying em got jay on renegade? It wasn't a diss record. Who cares which verse was better? There have been plenty of joint songs where the guest outdid the host. Its no big deal.

did you just imply that nas was or has ever been lesser to jay fucking z?If Jay-Z would have made Ether it wouldn't have been received the same way.
Because he made the mistake of facing someone lesser than him, and a lot of people were naturally going to go for the underdog. Just like people root for Boise State.
Look at the amount of people who hate on Jay-Z on this board. Dude gets a negative topic almost daily. Why? Unlike most rappers he's probably the most guarded, and no one truly knows him, but yet you would think he was Gucci Mane the way some dudes act. Do you think those people would say his song was better? Who makes a diss song and then people go awwww, that was too low of a blow.
The chips were stacked for the underdog from the beginning.
Where I'm from for a guy to be so concerned about another dudes looks, he would be called gay.

" burner to your dome " - the incident at a club where pun allegedly punked jay with the burner to his dome.

Take Over beat & production was better.
Ether went straight for the kill.
- The 2 Pac, " Fuck Jay-Z " sample.
Nas pretty much exposed Jay with this sample because the whole beef started because of the " it's like NY been soft since snoop came through & crushed the buildings " line.
When 2 PAC called his ass out he was quiet.
Tae Bo line - Jay - z was taking tae Bo lessons at the time.
" burner to your dome " - the incident at a club where pun allegedly punked jay with the burner to his dome.
The biting BIG line
Hawaiian Sophie, jaz-o...
And many more of Nas's subliminals that went over y'all head just like when he told cam'ron " you got a House
In
Virginia.
Because Jay mentioned it in the interview and admitted Em got him
Bullshit, all I need to know is - if ya'll don't remember, when Ether came out, Jay-Z resorted to talking about Nas baby moms on that wack ass answer record, dude reached for anything he could, Ether got under that nicca's skin, he never got over that which is why til this day he's still talking about it. Not only was Ether better but the beef ressurected Nas whole career and he came back with a classic album.
Was Takeover a better song than Ether, yes, but Ether was a better diss record.

And for the record, music-wise Jay has Nas because he's put out MORE material, about half his albums have been HOT garbage. Jay is not an original dude, he's just great at what he does.
This is pure bullshit
Jay-Z always ummmms a lot, and isn't that articulate and clear with his thoughts
Jay-Z never was confrontational. Beans, Bleek and SP would go after dudes, not him.
And what did it damageHe's even bigger now.
Or maybe he doesn't want to give them what they want: attention.

Eh, 50 could have been a formidable opponent at his peak b/c of his fanbase and how big he was, but Game shouldn't even be in the discussion.

He said something about 50 and moved on. Said something about cam and jim and moved on. He didn't waste time going back and forth, song for song.
