Breaking: Syfy cancels 'Caprica'

Caprica is toast. Syfy has announced that the low-rated Battlestar Galactica prequel has been canceled.

"The remaining first run episodes of Caprica – airing Tuesdays at 10/9c – will be removed from the schedule as of next Tuesday, November 2," said the network in a statement. "These final five episodes of the season will be re-scheduled to air at a to be announced time in the first quarter of 2011, and will conclude the run of the series."

"We appreciate all the support that fans have shown for Caprica and are very proud of the producers, cast, writers and the rest of the amazing team that has been committed to this fine series," said Mark Stern, EVP of Original Programming at Syfy. "Unfortunately, despite its obvious quality, Caprica has not been able to build the audience necessary to justify a second season."

The news comes less than a week after Syfy unveiled plans for another Galactica prequel, this one set 10 years into the first Cylon war.

Yeah ever since it came back it was like a fish out of the water gasping :smh:
So I was expecting that...

Robots with human personalities was an interesting concept but, I couldn't get into it. Matter of fact, 99% of all Syfy shows are str8 garbage now.

R.I.P. Caprica.

They tried too hard to build a deep backstory after leading with an all out action fight fest called BSG. What viewers might have rather had was something much closer in time to the first Cylon War. Then make the Caprica prequel.

The Scy-Fy Channel has made a big mistake. The shows that should have been canceled are Sanctuary and that worthless spinoff from Stargate SG1 called Stargate Universe not Caprica.

about fracking time. I was so fracking tired of hearing those frackers say frack this frack that frack everything...thank fracking god it's fracking over. Frack them all those fracker. Frack the frackers who fracked the producers to make a fracking fracked up piece of frack like this. So long frackers.

They took too fucking long getting the story going! Folks (like me) got bored! Maybe they should have done it in a mini-series format, it might have worked. Just too drawn out for me!

I only saw the pilot, but i'd hit it.

Am I the only one on BGOL that actually likes Stargate Universe? Well I'll admit the last episode was probably the worst one in the series, but other than that I think the show isn't horrible like some of you believe.

It's not bad to me. It's really different than than SG-1 and Atlantis but I have nothing against it. I'll be pissed if it gets canceled though. I need my Stargate fix

i like sg-u. :dunno:

yeah, I knew Caprica was going to get the axe, but I wished it would keep going because it was interesting to see how this was all going to lead to the Robots taking arms against their creators.

My guess would be that the Soldiers of One were going to get ahold of the program and then the main leaders of STO were going to use it make themselves Cylon bodies which would then somehow lead to them rising up....but we won't ever know now. Oh well...

Personally as a Stargate fan since the beginning I think SGU may be one of the best yet. It's completely different and is taking us beyond what we know about Stargate. It may not have the humor of the other stargates, but the second season has really picked up. Hope it goes 10 seasons.

I was just getting into Caprica for season 1.5 and now this. :smh: Just downloaded the lastest ep and everything.

i bet the final episode(BTW how ironic that they said these are the "Final Five" shows) will end on a cliffhanger..unless they reshoot it and jump ahead to the later years where william adama is now a teen, and the last scene is of him joining the military, somehow setting up Blood & Chrome

I only saw the pilot, but i'd hit it.

she has gotten increasly HOT...

but the introduction of her character was done poorly and the mother of the cyclons can't be a bitchy ungrateful spoiled teenage girl...

should have stuck with the Turon mob, holoband business, and tech. Too much religionand terror stuff.:smh:

Hmm ... very good.

But here is another idea. Since humans can enter the "virtual world" there should be no reason characters from the "virtual world" can't do the reverse. Except that they would need a body. The Cylons could be the vehicle to do just that.

Much of what we understand about this monotheistic cult (STO)seems to suggest that their "God" may actually be a computer program that has become "self aware."

Man's continuing goal to make the VR world as real as possible may have created a powerful "God-like" program that controls everything in the VR world and finally wants out to "fix/control" the real world. The original way to do it IMO was to convert people from a polytheistic religion to it's monotheistic one ... one person at a time.

To a sentient program time is on it's side, and so it could be patient. It's human followers ... not so much. They may have rushed things with the bombings and other terroristic tactics. This could have led the "God program" to take drastic measures and look for a way out into the real world faster, so as to act directly with it's disobedient followers and the un-converted alike.

A program is only as good as it's writer and since we all are flawed it only makes since that the God-like program would be too and make the wrong conclusions about humans ... especially when it has to consider what the majority of humans use the VR world for. Our interactions with the VR computer gave it the info needed to make a personality profile on mankind. It likely diagnosed us all as dangerous psychopaths and unable to be cured. Mankind was to be exterminated or contained/quarantined.

Yeah, yeah ... I know. Sorta Matrix like, but they already crossed that bridge from the get go.
