<font size="3">CNN fired Miami homeboy anchor Rick Sanchez Friday, a day after he said on a radio show that Jews control U.S. television networks. ``Rick Sanchez is no longer with the company,'' a CNN spokesman said. ``We thank Rick for his years of service and we wish him well.''</font size>

Sanchez's outburst about Jews came during a rant against Jon Stewart, who often makes fun of Sanchez on his Comedy Central show. Sanchez was being interviewed on comedian Pete Dominick's XM Sirius Radio show when the conversation went off the rails.

It started relatively innocently, with Sanchez expressing irritation at being lumped in with other Hispanic TV journalists by a CNN boss:
Racist attitudes aren't rooted on the political right, he added, but also extend to ``elite, Northeast establishment liberals.''

``Deep down, when they look at a guy like me, they see a guy automatically who belongs in the second tier, and not the top tier,'' Sanchez continued. Then he said: ``I think to some extent Jon Stewart and [Comedy Central comic Stephen] Colbert are the same way. I think Jon Stewart's a bigot.''

How's that? asked the puzzled Dominick.
``I think he looks at the world through his mom, who was a school teacher, and his dad, who was a physicist or something like that,'' replied Sanchez, speaking of Stewart. ``Great, I'm so happy that he grew up in a suburban middle class New Jersey home with everything you could ever imagine.''

``What group is he bigoted towards?'' pressed Dominick.
``Everybody else who's not like him. Look at his show, I mean, what does he surround himself with?'' said Sanchez.

When Dominick seemed surprised that Sanchez could level a charge of bigotry against Jews, who themselves have been subjected to discrimination, Sanchez dismissed the idea.
``I'm telling you that everybody who runs CNN is a lot like Stewart, and a lot of people who run all the other networks are a lot like Stewart, and to imply that somehow they, the people in this country who are Jewish, are an oppressed minority?'' Sanchez said, then added with sarcastic emphasis: ``Yeah.''

Transcripts and audio clips of the exchange began popping up on the Internet Friday morning, and at 6 p.m. CNN issued its terse statement dismissing him. Sanchez, a wildly popular if controversial anchor at WSVN-Fox 7 during the 1990s, joined CNN in 2004 after bombing first as an MSNBC anchor and then as a talk-show host on WTVJ-NBC 6.

Not a fan of Sanchez but he's right about Stewart the guy is a elitist and a bigot and Jews do own media outlets. CNN could have done something else to reprimand him firing him is overkill.

How dare a Cuban state that Jon Stewart is an elitist and a bigot? Fire him.

How dare Rick Sanchez state that folks who have things in common with Jon Stewart are in positions of power at various networks?
Fire him now.

Such ugly, hate-filled words can't never be tolerated from a 3rd world born communist.

Not a fan of Sanchez but I BELIEVE he's right about Stewart I THINK the guy is a elitist and a bigot and Jews do own media outlets. CNN could have done something else to reprimand him firing him is overkill.

There, I fixed it for ya.

I have listened to Sanchez's interview. He was specific in labeling Jon Stewart and not Jews.

What did Sanchez speak that was inflammatory?

Furthermore, Jon Stewart is a comedian that has a tv program that's dedicated to being mocking and condescending to whomever he chooses to target on any given night.

<font size="3">Jon Stewart Mocks Former CNN Anchor Rick Sanchez (Again)</font size>

Former CNN host Rick Sanchez is out of a job, but that doesn’t mean Jon Stewart can’t kick him when he’s down.

Stewart spent the beginning of last night’s “Daily Show” mocking Sanchez for his statements about Jewish people and Stewart’s upbringing. Last week, Sanchez went on a radio show and called Stewart a “bigot,” among other comments, and then lost his job at CNN.

Stewart also chided the media for running stories following his benefit for autism research that he thought paid more attention to his Sanchez comments than the program.

You can watch Stewart’s “Daily Show” remarks here.

There's something wrong with Sanchez being fired for basically defending himself. Maybe bringing Jews into it was too much but Stewart started it and Sanchez was just trying to man-up it's not right.

What did Sanchez say that was negative or demeaning to Jews?

Not a thing.

Still he was fired for calling a comedian a bigot.

<font size="5"><center>
But, Rick Sanchez Apologizes</font size>
<font size="4">

Says he didn't intend 'narrow-mindedness'</font size></center>

<font size="3">Rick Sanchez has released a public statement about the comments he made in an Oct. 1 radio interview that led to his firing from CNN. This comes after the former anchor's wife posted on her Facebook page that fatigue led to his much-publicized rant, and after he apologized to Jon Stewart for calling the "Daily Show" host a bigot among other things.

The full statement, originally obtained by Tampabay.com, follows:</font size>

"On October 4th, I had a very good conversation with Jon Stewart, and I had the opportunity to apologize for my inartful comments from last week. I sincerely extend this apology to anyone else whom I may have offended.

"As Jon was kind enough to note in his show Monday night, I am very much opposed to hate and intolerance, in any form, and I have frequently spoken out against prejudice. Despite what my tired and mangled words may have implied, they were never intended to suggest any sort of narrow-mindedness and should never have been made.

"In the aftermath of these comments, CNN and I have decided to part ways. However, I want to go on record to say that I have nothing but the highest regard for CNN and for my six wonderful years with them. I appreciate every opportunity that they have given me, and it has been a wonderful experience working for them. I have tremendous respect for everyone there, and I know that they feel the same about me. There are no hard feelings -- just excitement about a new future of opportunities.

"I look forward to my next step with great anticipation. In the meantime, I will continue to promote my book, Conventional Idiocy, in the hopes of broadening the discussion to get a better understanding between all Americans, regardless of race, creed or religion."
