Joining the ranks of celebrities who are sort of vegan, Bill Clinton has announced that to lose a bunch of weight and get his ticker in better shape, he's adopted a plant-based diet. Now, instead of snack foods and burgers, he's a sort-of-pescetarian. Specifically, he's dairy- and meat-free—occasionally treating himself to a little fish. He eats lots of plants, drinks almond milk with protein powder, and he's a new man because of it.

Now, he weighs what he did in high school. But that's not why he did it. He did it for his heart, pointing out that according to research, 82 percent of the people who have gone on such diets have had full recovery in heart health.

Here he is, gabbing with Wolf Blitzer about it:

...or he can simply get the better-than-meat vegetable protein.

Vegetable protein = gas

I've never met anyone who's retained muscle mass or bulked up veggie protein.

Humans are omnivores for a reason. There's nothing wrong with feasting on animals.

LOL @ 'drinking' your protein  better to go organic than vegan, and limit red meat.

Good look for Clinton, if people knew the importance of diet to your health people would be a lot more well off. Too bad eating is a hobby here in the U.S.

I don't think he's trying to bulk up, he's trying to bulk down.

But yea.. beans are gaseous... spinach, broccoli (and many other vegetables) are also good sources of protein that are not gaseous.

protein rich fruits: avocado, brazil nuts, coconut, apricots

:yes:whoa...nice

he's gonna change the eating habits of black america.

i dont know whether to clap or cry.

I saw it as him renouncing his blackness.

(At least his connection to the idiots who were calling him black in the first place.)

One of the main reasons I am eating healthy now ... cause I don't wanna be in the hospital gown at 50 years old hearing I can die if I eat one more steak

I don't like lettuce so any salads I eat have to be spinach. Since you mentioned this I decided to look up the protein content of a cup of spinach. I didn't know it had so much.

spinach also contains mad vitamin a and calcium.

but you may want to supplement spinach with vitamin d for the former's nutrient absorption.

drink in moderation. even though its all natural....too much fruit sugar can also be bad for you. I drink those from time to time....but i prefer fresh juices when i have to time to juice. Those bolthouse juices, juice like damn near every juice you see sold in stores have been pasteurized to preserve self life. Go read up on the effects that pasteurization has on foods.

Youll get more sugar and calories from most store brought juices than actual healthy vitamins. When it comes to eating healthy, youll never find a quick fix in a bottle or pill. Practice healthy eating habits throughout the day.

its a good source of calcium also!

Im an Ovo-Vegetarian. I eat lots of spinach every week. Its a super food on so many levels. I also eat lots of yams also. One of the best vegetables in the world IMO.

As for spinach, or any other type of green plant food, you have to make sure you get a nice amount of soluble fiber behind it. Your body can digest the juice inside the plant, which is why you really need to make sure you chew up your vegetables in order to get the maximum benefits, but the fibrous material thats left over is another story.

Humans digest plant enzymes & animal/pancreatic enzymes differently. Eat too much insoluble fiber, which vegetables are high in, without enough soluble fiber, which foods like apples, oats and seeds/nuts are high in, and watch how clogged up your asshole will be.

You have to balance out your fiber intake for maximum digestion. Thats why I always add almonds, dates, carrots, etc etc to my spinach saldas. Add some olive oil and a little dressing and im good!

BTW....for those saying its impossible to bulk up on a non meat diet...well its harder to do...but it can be done. Ive done it before in the past. Ate lots of Seitan, rice protein, black soy beans and seeds/nuts. I was 6' 220 w/ 5% BF. I was actually getting too much protein from my vegetarian diet and had to take it down a few notches. Too much protein can literally kill your kidneys.

Im currently 6' 180. Im currently "skinny swole"....but my shit looking nice. I lost the "Muscle weight" due to health reasons.

Well, I still stand by my original premise, I've NEVER seen ANYONE personally retain muscle or bulk up on a vegan diet. Old people need some animal protein, period.
