Why do baseball teams celebrate DIVISION titles like a World Series?

Baseball isn't like other sports where half the teams make the playoffs. Up until quite recently (maybe 10-15 years ago), only two teams made it from each league. In that way, you can almost think of it in the same terms as a college basketball team going to the Final Four. But they only play 30 games to get there. Now that there are 4 playoff teams from each league, it's not quite the same, but winning in baseball is still more of a marathon than other sports

Good point fam... I guess it's just weird to see cause I can't imagine the Patriots popping champagne after winning the AFC East, or the Lakers doing it after winning the Pacific. But it is definitely a marathon, and less teams get in... well said indeed.

It is so much of a tradition that some of the old school baseball people frown upon the new age players who wear the goggles to keep the champagne from burning their eyes.

Josh Hamilton from the Rangers skipped their celebration to avoid temptations of falling off the wagon.
