And that's how it ought to be....

Now that we take international basketball seriously,we will remain number one.

For now my friends.......for now.

Guess you can't say the same for baseball.

Outside the USA it's a minority sport, like judo...
But congratulations on being the best at it!!!!

Football, also known as Soccer to those of us in the USA, seems to be a lesser skilled competitive games. I watch English Premier league Football. I don't see much difference between the top tier players and the solid players. The same was true while watching the World Cup players.

I am not knocking the game. I like watching it. But I would rank a golfer, tennis player, baseball player, basketball player, american football player or a hockey player as more skilled.

A judo professional is more skilled than a professional footballer.

All those sports use their hands, futbol players are required to use their feet...

I'm pretty sure controlling a ball with your feet is harder than using your hands. I say this as someone who loves basketball.

Come on man:

And these are just 3 players

I would have to disagree. I am about the biggest basketball boaster out there, but soccer players are some of the most skilled athletes. Anyone can kick a ball, but to maneuver the ball around 11 opponents is something! I place soccer players as more skilled than football players.

What player in the history of futbol has ever avoided 11 players to score a goal?

None.

There is never a 1 vs 11 scenario.

A NFL cornerback is required to shadow a receiver, defend a zone, and tackle in the open field.

No defenseman in futbol has that sort of athletic responsibility.

Futbol is a legitimate sport. It's a team sport. The players are not the peak of individual skilled athletes.

Moreover, i listed several sports including Judo as being more of a skilled sport than futbol.

Usain Bolt has a legitimate chance of playing futbol but he has no chance of being a pro tennis player, golfer, judo contender, baseball player, football player or basketball player.

Are you a novice to futbol?

It's not one on 11, but this takes the utmost skill

Defenders in American football only play defense, can be substituted at will, rest nearly every 40 seconds.

Defenders in futbol have more responsibilities than just defending the attacking players, are on the field for two separate 45 minute periods, can have offensive opportunities on set-pieces. They also have to be able to control and dribble the ball competently, whereas cornerbacks are sometimes downgraded from receivers to backs because they can't catch the ball...

I'm sure those players from the other sports would have such an easy time integrating into top futbol leagues with ease.:rolleyes:

And like I said: Using your feet>>>>using your hands

Everybody that plays futbol can control and dribble the ball. The most impressive attribute of a futballer is their stamina.

I repeat. Everybody on the futbol field can dribble. It's not the most difficult skill to master.

American football requires specialize skills such as tackling a fast, powerful and elusive athlete or catching an oblong ball traveling 50 mph.

Every human can walk, jump and run before they can catch. Children master kicking a ball before they learn to catch or throw it.

I watch 6-14 year old children playing futbol 3x a week. None of the same children can demonstrate the same mastery of football, basketball, judo, baseball, tennis or golf like they do on the soccer field.

Like i said, basketball. Power, quickness, speed, jumping ability, foot work, hand-eye coordination. The cagers excel in all of the above. And American players Dominate!

Kicking a ball, and dribbling are not the same thing. Kicking a ball 50 or more yards down the field directly on your teammate isn't a specialized skill? Not every player can do that. Or sliding a through ball through multiple defenders while keeping in mind the offside rule isn't a skill. Why do you think it's hard as shit to score a goal, because it takes tremendous skill to get past a wall of defenders with just your feet. Everyone can't dribble the ball equally either, not in the least.

The average athlete can do this?
ronaldinho%20gif%20by%20ramon_messi.gif

That's news to me.

I'm not denying the fact that those other sports take a lot of skill, but to say it takes less skill in futbol is preposterous.

What are you talkig about, Usain Bolt has no chance in hell in being a football player(futball)...
Here is an NFL player

If he can do it, then there's a place for anyone in that sport:lol:

No!!!
Because he's not a basketball player...
I'm not doubting the skills required to play basketball, my argument was that it was a minotity sport and your contention that a lower skills set is required to play football(futball)...
Can Magic Johnson do what Messi does with a football?...Answer no!, but what does that prove???

I don't know about Magic, but here is another NBA MVP that has soccer skills. Post a soccer star with basketball skills.

Those are not soccer skills, they are circus tricks.....ball juggling...no one is challenging him, it's sole purpose is to entertain..!!
But here's a thought....maybe that dude used to play soccer to a fairly high standard..:dunno:

And how does that take away from the value of the skills set needed to play football at the top level.....

And look how impressed the basketball players watchinh him are....!!

Dribble what a football?
There's too many, it's their job to dribble the ball with skill...

If you mean a basketball, I don't know, I'm not interested in football players that play basketball as a second hobby!
And what's that got to do with my points?

you don't get it. this is BGOL, where casual fans marvel at what they believe are unattainable skills for mere mortals. as if years of practice and repetition weren't involved in the equation.

whether it be athletics, firing a weapon, or playing chess, mastery of a discipline requires putting in the man hours to accomplish it. but on BGOL, people believe that it is something inherent or god-given to a chosen few.

that's why you have the casual fans who see BASIC skills as incredible feats.

Those are not soccer skills, they are circus tricks.....ball juggling...no one is challenging him, it's sole purpose is to entertain..!!

MOST of the videos posted were just that. the diego maradona video had a small amount of in game footage.

And look how impressed the basketball players watchinh him are....!!

they are as impressed as any casual fan of something new (to that observer) would be. much as one would be watching penn & teller or david copperfield. the fact that the average person can't perform illusions or sleight of hand doesn't mean that they couldn't if they had trained properly.

MOST of the videos posted were just that. the diego maradona video had a small amount of in game footage.

Here you go.

Once again, the majority of players cannot do what these players can. No matter how hard they worked at it. If it were as simple as just working hard, there would be thousands of Messi's and Dinhos.

your thoughts are incomplete.

for example, "the majority of players cannot do what these players can."

of course not. people are not clones. we are not identical. but i wasn't speaking about people (remember, not just athletes) having identical skills.

we don't all start training at the same age. we don't develop cognitively exactly the same. we don't inherit the same genes.

i'm talking about how easily impressed casual fans are, while others may be nonplussed.

i'm not talking about "working hard" being the only factor. it is the sum of our experiences that creates the end result, with "working hard" being only 1 of those factors.

again, most people on BGOL will be impressed by ANYTHING that falls outside of their personal experience. that doesn't mean that the person they have observed is especially gifted, unique, or that others are incapable of duplicating what they have observed.

Kinda like this guy!

and this is a perfect example of what i'm talking about.

to continue with your example, saying there has never been another player like michael jordan means nothing.

there has never been another player like manute bol, tim legler, or spud webb either.

what casual fans can't comprehend is that there have been players more athletic than michael jordan, and that there have been players more skilled than michael jordan, and that there have been players will equal drive.

but there hasn't been a single player with ALL of those elements (and others) who also had the benefit of a host of other circumstances which properly aligned to produce his fantastic and legendary end result.

for example, if michael jordan had been born in the west and had not been drawn to coach smith's program in NC he wouldn't have been the player he became. if michael jordan had continued to play under chucker turned coach collins, he wouldn't have been the player he became. if michael jordan hadn't played in the triple post O, he wouldn't have been the player he became.

but it's easier for casual fans to utter things like "the majority of players cannot do what these players can".
