Oh Snap! Kindle disses iPad’s sunlight reading capabilities

I saw the ad was like, let me compare a cell phone to my 12GB MacPro, a water hose to a bottle of GatorAde, a bicycle to my car. In response to that ad, Apple should just make one that says, "Bitch Please"

My ideal machine would be a color e-ink Kindle. I just want something that will give me the capability of reading books and comics. The color palette doesn't even have to be that expansive either. I hope they can do this. Since I got my Samsung Galaxy S, I have been reading up on a whole bunch of comic book series that I fell behind on. I want a bigger screen but hate reading them on my MacBook....I'm still holding out hope for a color e-ink Kindle or Nook....

#1 reason why i wont touch nobody ipod, ebook reader or laptop:lol::lol::lol:

Hahhahaha I don't let ppl use my shit tho so it's cool I ain't spreading germs...I stingy like that...my friend get mad cuz I don't really let her use my iPad...if I do I'm over her shoulder like a hawk...mufuckas wanna use ya shit but fuck it up and be ghost

I was thinking about that...that would be sweet but I really like the option of switching up and watching vids/surfing the net...also reading a comic on the typical 7" e-reader is not really ideal...the iPad is JUST big enough to make it a good experience...it would be nice tho if Kindle provides this w/ the next line of the 9" e-reader they already have...that would justify their asking price for it

I'm not even considering a Kindle. I'm gonna go ahead and get that Ipad because it seems much more versatile. I'm wondering which is better to get at this point, an Ipad or one of those mini netbooks?I know the Ipad is slicker but which has the best functionality?

She can leave that Kindle in the sun all day, leave, come back next week and that bitch will still be there.

Nobody wants that shit!

It's not a good comparison...if you bought both you would find yourself using them for entirely different reasons...what do you mean by functionality? What are you looking to do?

What if I don't need all that though? I see what you're saying about versatility, but I don't need or want another computing device which plays video. I want the best eReader for reading books and or comics, without having to worry about battery life. From what I have read thats exactly what the Kindle is and does best. Kindle is Nintendo to Apple Ipads Playstation. Yeah the Ipad does a whole lot of other things better, but at being an eReader, it doesn't compete with Kindle. I could get down with a 7 inch screen to read comics e-ink. Like I said, I have been reading comics on my 4 inch Samsung Galaxy S phones screen. Holiday season can't come soon enough, I can't wait to see what these competing companies have in store...

Wow you crazy...I tried reading comics on my iPod Touch and deaded that shit on the spot...but if you can pull it off then ya a 7" color Kindle that reads comics would be ideal for you...it recognizes jpg I think so you should be able to read comics if you just create a folder w/ the jpg files of w/e title you reading...too bad it's not in color tho...btw I wasn't suggesting the iPad for your needs just saying why I like it and that Kindle should make a color DX (the "big" Kindle) that uses color and let's you read comics...they charging $200 simply cuz it's 2" bigger...they should @ least add color to it for that asking price imo

ifags is hot than a mug in this bitch!!:lol::lol:

Y'all dissing the Kindle, then use the same arguments against a net book? :smh::smh:

I really should have bought apple stock. It's more powerful than white pussy for you ninjas.

Yeah I look real hungry reading comics on this thing but it isn't so bad. If/when I get a Kindle I will lean towards the bigger model, I just hope they introduce a color model though. I read a few weeks ago the B&N Nook 2 is going to add something new to the eReader game....hopefully it's color cause that means Kindle won't be too far behind.

 I want one! Reflective technology....

qualcomm_mirasol.jpg

Published by Horrid on Tuesday, 14th September 2010 Mirasol eReader screen from Qualcomm ready first half 2011 Among the progress reports delivered at Qualcomm’s analyst day in London this week, hiding between reports of faster handset processors, new dual carrier HSDPA services and snapdragon and Gobi chip tablet wins, was one announcement more interesting to readers interested in video, about its incredibly low power Mirasol screen technology When we first came across this technology, just over two years ago, it was grey with large pixels and ultra slow switching speeds and the only thing that made it interesting was that it used up around 5% of the power of existing LCD screens Today the difference is much closer, as LCD screens find ways to reduce their power footprint usually by depowering themselves for non-video applications, and also as the Qualcomm MEMS technology increases its switching speed, offers color and tries to cope with video. But a significant difference is still there.

Qualcomm’s Mirasol technology uses a tiny amount of ambient light reflected in 1,000s of tiny nanotech style mirrors, and makes the best of any ambient light. So with no backlight for a display, it means that the more ight that falls on the screen, such as direct sunlight, the better the image that it gives off. This is very similar light that falls on the screen, such as direct sunlight, the better the image that it gives off. This is very similar to E-Ink screens, which are used in eBook readers such as the Amazon Kindle and the Qualcomm CEO, Pau capable. He predicated another change that these screens would bring, “There will be a time when there is no need for us to design mobile phones screens which black after 30 seconds, to preserve battery life because these screens will take so little power.” He said that already a dedicated Mirasol fabrication plant has been built in Taiwan which would deliver in volume in the last quarter and turn up in products by early next year. The output is destined for eBook readewrs and possibly handsets and tablets, and the factory is a partnership with Foxlink Qualcomm also showed off a second quarter white paper from Pike Research on energy efficient displays for non-stop. E-Ink screens were rated at a mere 4.7 hours for an existing 7 inch device and the nearest to the Mirasol screen being 6.3 hours from a 6.1 inch VGA LCD screen with the backlight turned down 50% Clearly Qualcomm is not comparing like with like and a 6.1 inch screen is 20% bigger and uses 20% more power, and a 7 inch screen is clearly close to 40% bigger. But even so the numbers are impressive. The LCD screens have been worked on non-stop for 20 years, and this new technology is at the start of its working life The Mirasol screens will likely appear in 5.7 inch eReader devices in the first instance which compares wel with the Kindle and should generate more than twice the battery life of something like two weeks elapsed time and roughly 15 reading hours for the existing Pixel Qi E-Ink technology, compared to 35 hours reading HTML pages and yet still be leagues ahead in battery life It’s no coincidence that the Amazon Kindle already has a cellular radio chip from Qualcomm, and it is likely which might suggest that it could be a next generation Kindle that first takes advantage of such a screen. Whatever it is, it will be with us in Q1 or Q2 2011.

why does it need to play video or run apps? its a $140 ebook reader.

im leaning towards that over a $700 flashy tablet that duplicates 3/4 of the shit my laptop can do.

Isn't that what I said per the comparison? Buy this thing for $100 + vs
this thing for $400 + because the $100 + thing can be read in direct sunlight:hmm:

You bad as the commercial just making noise for no reason and not reading between the lines.

If you just want a ebook reader why not just buy the audio book and
play them on this.

Bottom line the commercial actually OCKS itself like comparing vitamins to
real fruit.

Not sure about most people here, but I can't do audio books. I prefer to read and hear the action in my own voice.

As far as the commercial, people do like reading outdoors, it is cheaper than an iPad, and if all one wants to do is read, then a Kindle is a better option.

It's a learning curve but there are still a lot of people who swear by turning pages and sitting in the library for hours:cool:...if you can find a
library these days.:(

I'm just talking about product marketing jabs that take technical facts
and misinform the consumer about their product at the expense of
another product that is NOT the same product.

YOU ARE CORRECT if you just want a great e book reader Kindle is apparently the best but if you believe that you should compare it
with an iPad:smh:

I have messed around with both, and comparing the Kindle's E-ink screen and the iPad's LCD screen when it comes to reading, it's pretty simple, the Kindle wins out easily as a reading device.

Just watched the commercial...

...and also a Kindle demo video. I've never used a Kindle but The Kindle 3 seems definitely worth the money as an eBook reader, when all is said and done. It's unquestionably the most fully-featured eBook reader out right now - perhaps the best reader overall.

That said, I have an iPad and the first thing I noticed in that garbage commercial is how they made it look like on the iPad the page alignment is all off - the next page bleeding over onto the right margin of the current page, some unnecessary mess at the top etc.
I have never seen a page looking like that in iBooks or even the Kindle app for iPad, neither ePub or pdf. Pages are always clean.

Sunlight issue aside, book pages appear to look pretty much the same on both devices. What I personally like about reading on the iPad's iBooks app are things the Kindle doesn't have:
  • realistic looking page flip animation via swiping
  • ability to change orientation of the screen by simply turning the device (as opposed to a sequence of pushed buttons)
  • a backlight that enhances reading in the dark
  • full color for accurate display of images (magazines etc)

It's kind of funny that the thing they championed on the commercial (sunlight readability) is the opposite of what the iPad does better (readability in the dark).

You raise good points...I like swiping the pages on the iPad too...on the Nook/Kindle you have to press the button then the screen does this horrible inverting type thing which takes like a good sec or 2 for the page to change...this is why I believe Apple is serious about releasing a 7" iPad...that shit will ultimately squash the Kindle
