Progressive Group: Rahm's A 'Cancer On The Democratic Party,' Should 'Flatly Go Away'

News that Chicago Mayor Richard Daley would not run for reelection produced almost instantaneous speculation that White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, not shy about his ambitions to be Chicago's mayor, would make a run for the post.

It also quickly produced the reflexive Rahm-bashing that has become a staple of the progressive community, which increasingly views him as the point person for the ills that have beset this White House.

"Rahm is unfit to represent Democrats in office," Progressive Change Campaign Committee co-founder Adam Green said. "He's a cancer on the Democratic Party. Democrats' current 2010 situation is due to a weak Rahm Emanuel mentality that says water down real reform at the urging of Republicans and corporations, thus making Democratic reform less popular with voters than the real deal would have been. If Democrats had passed the overwhelmingly-popular public option and broken up the big banks when they had the chance, they'd be cruising for a landslide victory right now."

Over at Slate, Dave Weigel makes the argument that the PCCC statement is primarily a fundraising venture. And, indeed, Green's first push was a petition, already signed on its release by more than 1,700 people pledging not to support Emanuel for any run for political office.

But the crux of Rahm-hatred is not simply institutional benefit. There is a genuine sense that the White House Chief of Staff took the euphoria of the Obama brand and whittled it down into something more compromised and corporate. With that in mind, it would seem to make sense for the PCCC to cheer Emanuel's departure from the administration, not to lash out against a move to Chicago.

Wouldn't Emanuel leaving the White House fit the PCCC's larger objective? "Yep," Green replied. But, he added, "He should flatly go away. No golden parachute..."

I HOPE NOT!

I got a lot to type about Rahm..but i just got in from work...so i dont feel like going in on him right now.

But anyways...
I find it funny how no one really wanted to challenge Daley if he wouldve decided to run for Mayor again...but now that he plans to retire..the list has goten very long in a matter of hours.

Mayor of Chicago is big shit. Thats why its been on all the media outlets.
Most dont wanna be Mayor of Chicago because they want to change the BS status quo that Daley and his Father created, most wanna be Mayor of the Chi because they wanna follow in Daleys footsteps. They wanna cash in one the side deals. Finish privatizing the entire fuckin city!

Theres no term limit as Chicago Mayor. You can be in office for 40 years if you like; That needs to change.

Most people join politics because of the money that they make off side deals and the clout that they gain amongst powerful people. A lot, but not all dont go into politics because they care about the plight of the American people. See Obama for a good example.

Daley retired because he has nothing left to gain. If Chicago wouldve gotten the Olympics, he woulda stayed in office. The Olympics in Chicago equaled a shit load of future corruption; Corruption that Daley wouldve cashed in on.

I dont know who would be a great fit as Mayor of Chicago. Well yes I do...but i know they wont run.

One thing I do know is Rahm aint it!

I really want to rant about this guy...but i really dont have the energy.

BTW....I also find it funny how capitalistic Al Sharpton is talking about putting his two cents in the whole Chicago Mayor situation. Not running for Mayor....but just getting involved.

Everyone has an agenda.

Chicagoans need to keep their eyes and ears open.
If they dont..be prepared for 20+ more years of hell.

MARK MY WORDS!!!!

Personally, I could give two squats about Emanuel. I just want him out of the Obama administration.

They have term limits in Chicago just like every place else in America: the next election.

What's the problem with that? Outsiders put their "2 cents" in local politics all the time.

He was supposed to be Obama's armtwister, what happened to that?

post some information that explains that Chicago HAS or is about to HAVE term limits on it Mayor position.

ive seen u post before on the Obama Admin, so I understand why that one confused you.

Its more than just "2 cents" You must dont listen to his show via the radio. Well I do. I coulda typed more on what he said. But like i said i didnt have the time last night...and i dont have the time right now.

Listen to his show...i think its on right now. He may discuss it again today.

Every election is the time to end a politicians term.
I said as much.

So Obama got into politics with no concern over the conditions of the American people and just to get some clout as a junior Senator of Ill? That would say a man with his education and personality couldn't have been successful in the private sector.
Obtuseness always confused me.

I don't listen to his show anymore because it's no longer carried in my area but I'm really interested in what he could have said that makes his wanting to get involved in Chicago politics so ominous.

Cant depend on that. Especially when the majority of the people vote for politicians based off emotions.

Thats why there needs to be set term limits for all Politicians.

So Obama got into politics with no concern over the conditions of the American people and just to get some clout as a junior Senator of Ill?

No....thats why he agreed to run for US President.
He didnt do much as US Senator...hence the lack of rewards that he got.

No need to type details about what he has or hasnt done since he's been in office....the proof is in the pudding my friend.

He's basically gonna come to Chicago and do what Mayor Daley did ever election in order to get the Black vote. He plans to come to Chicago and have a meeting with a large group of Black Preachers so they can privately decide who they want to rally behind. Then after they decide...then they wil go back to there churches and brainwash their congregation. He gave the names of a few people that he liked...but i cant think of em right now. Maybe he's getting involved because his current hustle, The National Action Network, is in financial jeopardy.

Personally, I have a problem with implementing religion into the election process. Mainly because I know how it affects the Black vote. If you wanna get the Black community to vote for someone just attach Jesus, skin color or the Democratic party to the candidate and you got em!

But anyways.....
Im not a fan of Hustler Al Sharpton.
He's prospers off making Black folks feel like victims. And now he's about to exploit illegal Mexicans. Hence the whole Black & Brown coalition BS.
The little good that he does do will never amount to the BS that he's been involved in.

Personally, I could give two squats about Emanuel. I just want him out of the Obama administration.

I'm interested to know why you have this opinion of Rahm?

My personal opinion is; he isn't doing Obama any favors on the international scene, inparticularly with Israel. This Pres. is the last person who should have a problem with Israel. Rahm is a dual citizen, Axelrod is Jewish, Bernanke & Geithner (both Jewish and watchin the $$$). Rahm knows not to let Netanyahoo leave & publicly dis Obama, thats a reflection on Rahm

Term limits are for lazy thinkers and lazy people. If people don't like the job a politician is doing, they can and do vote them out.

You say that as if it's a bad thing. He's been a pretty good President on substance, his main flaw is and probably will always be in messaging. You may not like his agenda but it's succeeding more than failing.

May I ask you to post where you claim Emanuel has dual citizenship? This is another of those President Obama is a Muslim type rumors. Emanuel's dad is a Jew and just like every American born Jew, they are entailed to Israeli citizenship according to Israel . Republican Henry Kissinger and the late, right leaning hawkish Physicist, Edward Teller, father of the H-Bomb who were born out side of the US and served in sensitive positions in prior administrations.

Emanuel was a congressman and I know personally, secret security clearances are never granted to those with dual citizenship.

I've always been against term limits. This argument has let the citizens off the hook. If the people are to damn lazy and stupid to be engaged in the society the live in, then they deserve the politicians they get. By not voting you are still making a choice!

America is obviously full of em'; and will continue to be full of em. Thats why im an advocate for term limits.

Term limits may be bad in some cases, but good in others. Opinions vary. But in certain situations...its truly needed.

Rahm Emanuel <b>is a Dual- Citizen of The State of Israel and the United States of America.</b> He is not unique, thousands of famous and non-famous people ניוזלטר הארץ have this unique status. To understand how this happened watch the video below.

[FLASH]http://www.divshare.com/flash/video_embed?data=YTo2OntzOjU6ImFwaUlkIjtzOjE6IjQiO3M6NjoiZmlsZUlkIjtpOjEyNjQ0ODY4O3M6NDoiY29kZSI7czoxMjoiMTI2NDQ4NjgtNTIyIjtzOjY6InVzZXJJZCI7aToxMzE0NjMzO3M6NDoidGltZSI7aToxMjg1NDQ2MjI5O3M6MTI6ImV4dGVybmFsQ2FsbCI7aToxO30=&autoplay=default[/FLASH]

More importantly when we examine Rahm Emanuel’s relationship with President Obama we see a man whose policies & ideals are antithetical to the movement for change that propelled the unlikely candidate Barack Hussein Obama into the oval office as the 44th President of the United States.

Emanuel is a DLC (Democratic Leadership Council) democrat. Emanuel is a corporatist like Harold Ford Jr. & Arthur Davis. The DLC philosophy is to cut back room deals with big business that favor their needs in exchange for campaign cash; DLC members say -Fuck building a true “grass roots movement” and creating a government that is accountable to the ‘small people’ and looks out for their interests so they don’t get trampled by the billionaire corporations.

After the election & inauguration of President Barack Obama, Emanuel quickly threw a soaking wet ice cold blanket over the passion, energy and enthusiasm of the millions of people, many-of-them first time voters that was the engine of the Barack Obama campaign. Emanuel’s idea of governing was to push Obama to the right and into deal making connivance with the same corporations that caused the massive economic depression that we have yet to fully recover from.

Emanuel cut a deal with the “Health Care Mafia” eliminating any chance of a ‘public-option’ even before the CBO (Congressional Budget Office) scored the various plans being debated. Emanuel advising President Obama, kept Obama cosseted in the White House and away from the biggest bully pulpit in the world – the US Presidential microphone- for six months – until the “YOU LIE” moment that occurred during Obama’s speech to a joint session of congress.

As far as the 16 million Obama campaign donors who gave time, and money (average less than $100) plus the 15 million Hillary supporters, who the White House now had ; all of these people accessible by email with the click of one button, what did Emanuel do with this 31 million person list?? NOTHING!! Did he ask the 31 million people - (millions who showed up in DC in person on Obama's inauguration day) - to do ANYTHING to help the Presidents agenda? No!

I’m on that donor list, all they ever do is ask for money. What a waste. Emanuel hates & ridicules the majority of people on these lists. He calls them “The Professional Left”, fucking idiots, morons, etc.

Goodbye Rahm Emanuel, good riddance.

Happy Fuckin' Labor Day Rahm Emanuel

Sept. 6th 2010

by Michael Moore

http://www.michaelmoore.com/words/mike-friends-blog/happy-fuckin-labor-day

Dear Rahm Emanuel:

Happy Fuckin' Labor Day! I read this week that — according to a new book by Steven Rattner, your administration's former "Car Czar" — during White House<div align="right"><!-- MSTableType="layout" --><img src="http://static.michaelmoore.com/posted_img/10/09/effinlabor.jpg334200" align="right"></div> meetings about how to save the tens of thousands of jobs that would be lost if GM and Chrysler collapsed, your response was, "Fuck the UAW!"

Now, I can't believe you actually said that. Maybe Rattner got confused because you drop a lot of F-bombs,
or maybe your assistant was trying to order lunch and you said (to Rattner) "Fuck you" and then to your assistant "A&W, no fries."

Or maybe you did mean Fuck the UAW. If so, let me give you a little fucking lesson (a lesson I happen to know because my fucking uncle was in the sit-down strike that founded the fucking UAW).

Before there were unions, there was no middle class. Working people didn't get to send their kids to college, few were able to own their own fucking home, nobody could take a fucking day off for a funeral or a sick day or they might lose their fucking job.

Then working people organized themselves into unions. The bosses and the companies fucking hated that. In fact, they were often overheard to say, "Fuck the UAW!!!" That's because the UAW had beaten one of the world's biggest industrial corporations when they won their battle on February 11, 1937, 44 days after they'd taken over the GM factories in Flint. Inspired by their victory, workers struck almost every other fucking industry, and union after union was born. Had World War II not begun and had FDR not died, there would have been an economic revolution that would have given everyone — everyone — a fucking decent life.

Nonetheless labor unions did create a middle class for the majority (even companies that didn't have unions were forced to pay at or near union wages in order to attract a workforce) and that middle class built a great country and a good life. You see, Rahm, when people earn a fucking good wage, they spend it on stuff, which then creates more good paying jobs, and then the middle class grows fucking big. Did you know that back when I was a kid if you had a parent making a union wage, only one parent had to work?! And they were home by 3 or 4pm, 5:30 at the latest! We had dinner together! Dad had four weeks paid vacation. We all had free health and dental care. And anyone with decent grades went to college and it didn't fucking bankrupt them. (And if you ever used the F-word, the nuns would straighten you out in ways that even you couldn't bear to hear about).

Then a Republican fired all the air traffic controllers, a Democrat gave us NAFTA and millions of jobs were moved overseas (hey, didn't you work in that White House, too? "Fuck the UAW, baby!"). Unions got scared and beaten down, a frat boy became president and, like a drunk out of control, spent all our fucking money and our children's money, too. Fuck.

And now your assistant's grandma has to work at fucking McDonald's. Ask her for pictures of what the middle class life used to look like. It was effing cool! I'll bet grandma doesn't say "Fuck the UAW!"

Hey, don't get me wrong, Rahm. I fucking like you. You single-handedly got the House returned to the Dems in 2006. But you and your boss better do something fucking quick to put people back to work. How 'bout making it a crime to take an American job and move it out of the country? In other words, treat it as if It were a fucking national treasure like you would if someone stole the Declaration of Independence out of the National Archives or some poacher stole eggs out of the nest of an America bald eagle.

Or how 'bout arresting some of those Wall Street guys who fucking stole our money, the money that ran the American economy. Now that would take some fucking guts.

And maybe, just maybe, that one act of real guts might save your ass come November 2nd.

Oh, I can just hear you now: "Fuck Michael Moore!" No problem. But Fuck the UAW? How 'bout if I just leave off the ‘A’ and the ‘W’?

I heard one mention of Jesse Jr. thinking about it. He ain't Superman but he ain't Rahm either.

typical Thoughtone, Were you drinkin when you made this post?

All you had to do was google the shit, instead you ramble on about Henry 'fuckin' Kissinger & Edward Teller (who aint even relevant to the topic) :smh:

Then, you state he wouldn't get a secret security clearances  :smh:  :smh:

So you know him personally?

QueEx, is this poster old enough to post on the board? Straight Buffoonery!

Rahm Emanuel booted off ballot
in 2-1 Appellate Court decision </font size></center>

Chicago Sun-Times
BY ABDON M. PALLASCH
Political Reporter
January 24, 2011

Rahm Emanuel was thrown off the ballot for mayor of Chicago today by an appellate court panel, a stunning blow to the fund-raising leader in the race.

An appellate panel ruled 2-1 that Emanuel did not meet the residency standard to run for mayor.

Appellate judges Thomas Hoffman and Shelvin Louise Marie Hall ruled against Emanuel. Justice Bertina Lampkin voted in favor of keeping President Obama’s former chief of staff on the Feb. 22 ballot.

“It’s a surprise,” said Kevin Forde, the attorney who argued on Emanuel’s behalf.

Emanuel’s attorneys are expected to use Lampkin’s dissenting opinion to appeal the case to the Illinois Supreme Court.

In today’s ruling, Hoffman wrote: “We ... order that the candidate’s name be excluded (or if, necessary, be removed) from the ballot from Chicago’s Feb. 22, 2011.”

Emanuel had won two previous rulings — by the Chicago Board of Election Commissioners and a Cook County judge. The case was appealed to the appellate court, which handed down the ruling before noon Monday.

Opponents have argued Emanuel is not a resident of Chicago because he rented out his North Side home while serving as chief of staff to Obama. The renter —Rob Halpin — refused to allow Emanuel to move back in after Mayor Daley’s announcement last year that he would not seek re-election. Halpin briefly ran for mayor himself.

Killing two birds with one stone. Emanuel out of the federal government and out of Chicago municipal government!

They say its a big bump in the road..I say its a small bump.

Rahm didnt hustle up 11 million in campaign funds i.e. more than all the other candidates funds combined for nothing.

Daley is Rahms man, a large percentage of the Black voters in Chicago, which constitutes for the majority of Chicago's registered voters, are still politically unsophisticated & Chicago is still being ran by crooked politicians and their corporate cronies. I bet "tyrannical" Rahm will be on the final ballot and will be the next Mayor of Chicago. And he'll be able to thank many dumbfounded Black voters.....the same voters that consistently voted for Daley just because he was a democrat for helping him win.

Rahm Emanuel has tapped his super-agent brother Ari’s Hollywood money network big-time in his bid to become Chicago mayor, gobbling up five- and six-figure checks from the likes of Steven Spielberg, “West Wing” creator Aaron Sorkin, Dreamworks mogul Jeffrey Katzenberg, and the Napster founder played by Justin Timberlake in “The Social Network.” But Emanuel’s stunning multi-million haul wasn’t limited to the bright lights of the sunset strip — it also included huge payouts from CEOs and hedge fund managers across from New York to Silicon Valley, Apple CEO Steve Jobs, Donald Trump and former Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin.

Donald Trump, Steven Spielberg, Apple Computer CEO Steve Jobs and music mogul David Geffen were among the big names who wrote big checks to help Rahm Emanuel‘s bid to succeed retiring Mayor Richard M. Daley in the Feb. 22 election.
Those four supporters were among 27 out-of-state donors who gave at least $50,000 each to the new Chicago for Rahm Emanuel political committee in the first three months after it was created, according to documents filed Thursday with state election authorities Thursday.
...
Emanuel also accepted $100,000 each from Kenneth C. Griffin, founder and CEO of Chicago-based Citadel Investment Group, and Griffin’s wife, Anne Dias-Griffin, managing partner of the Aragon Global Management hedge fund.

The largest donor to the campaign was the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, which gave $200,000, followed by media magnate Haim Saban and his wife Cheryl Saban. The Sabans, who live in Beverly Hills, Calif., each contributed $110,000.

Rahm Emanuel Back on Chicago Ballot

NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- The Illinois Supreme Court has ordered that Rahm Emanuel's name be listed on Chicago's mayoral ballot less than 24 hours after an appellate court ruled he was ineligible to run.

The Chicago Board of Election Commissioners has been told not to print mayoral ballots without Emanuel's name. A state appellate court ruled Monday that Emanuel, the former White House chief of staff for President Obama, could not run for office because he has not lived in Chicago for one year.

"The Board of Elections is directed that if any ballots are printed while this Court is considering this case, the ballots should include the name of petitioner Rahm Emanuel as a candidate for mayor of the city of Chicago," the state Supreme Court ordered Tuesday.

The court issued the emergency order while the case is under appeal.

The mayoral election is scheduled for Feb. 22. Early voting will begin Jan. 31.

In October 2010, Emanuel announced he would be leaving his position as White House chief of staff to run for Chicago mayor after current Mayor Richard Daley said he wasn't planning to seek re-election.

Obama appointed William Daley as the next White House chief of staff earlier this month. Daley is the younger brother of Chicago Mayor Richard Daley.

‘We will prevail,’ Rahm says after booted off ballot

BY ABDON M. PALLASCH AND FRAN SPIELMAN Staff Reporters Jan 25, 2011 2:34AM

Rahm Emanuel was thrown off the ballot for mayor of Chicago Monday by an appellate court panel. But Emanuel — who has led the other candidates in fund-raising and in public opinion polls — cautioned he won’t get off the ballot without a fight.

“I have no doubt, at the end we will prevail at this effort,” Emanuel told reporters at the Berghoff Restaurant.

The Chicago Board of Elections planned to start printing ballots without Emanuel’s name unless Emanuel’s lawyers can get a “stay” of the appellate court ruling. Emanuel’s lawyers filed their request for a stay just before 5 p.m. Monday.

“We ... order that the candidate’s name be excluded (or if, necessary, be removed) from the ballot,” Judge Thomas Hoffman wrote in the opinion upholding the requirement under the state’s municipal code that candidates for mayor in Illinois must have “resided in” the town where they are running for a year before Election Day — in this case Feb. 22. Hoffman was joined by Justice Shelvin Marie Louise Hall................(long article)
