Earrings on men?

When I was growing up it was rare to see a man wearing even one earring and then it was a small gold hoop like earring. Only women wore them. Now I see men young and grown wearing two earrings and big ones when did it all change?

In some ways it seems that women and men are switching. Women are getting ink all over their bodies, arms, legs, necks and men are getting pieced all over theirs eye brows, noses, ears.

Maybe I am too old school.

When did it all change and why?

you must be really old because when i was growing up it was very common to see men with one earring in their left ear.

Usually a small stud or a small hoop..

Never saw men wearing earrings in their right ear exscept for homo's.....but even then it was one ear.

Now you do see cats wearing their mothers big ass cocktail earrings...

Damn nigga, were you locked up for that last 25yrs? I got my 1st earring when I was 11. Did my other ear when I was 18. I'm 35 now and still wear them.

Homeboy is in Denmark...

Men have adorned themselves with earrings for THOUSANDS of years. Nothing new at all. You just grew up in an area where it wasn't done amongst men. In the western culture, earrings were predominantly worn by women, but in many other non-western cultures, both men and women wore earrings, or had some sort of pierced adornment in their ear.

Who said that a woman getting tatts is manly? Who said a man getting earrings is girly? :dunno:

Why is the sky blue?:dunno:
Why is water wet? :dunno:
Why did Judas grab the Romans while Jesus slept? :dunno:

As far as i can remember dudes have been wearing 2 earrings since the 90's. I got both of my joints pierced back in '92 after getting my hair loc'd up and the only people who used to complain were the out of touch old geezers in the barbershop. As far as the big Grandma hoops I don't know when that shit started.

For me to see a dude rocking even one earring these days seems so out of style to me but what the hell do I know. I'm slowly becoming the old geezer in the barbershop my damn self.

I remember that shit. That's why I don't pay attention to folks whining over skinny jean working dudes. Dudes wearing saggy pants sporting diamond studs in their ear, and, get this, single digit having black nail (or clear) polish wanna criticize. Fuck outa here!!

And before and is dying a slow death...Men pruning their hair like women so it's whatever now. :smh:

wtf

I was talking to my dad about this very topic just last week. He told me in the late 60's brothers started wearing earrings. We were talking about how the kids today seem extra fruity with there bright colors and tight pants. He told me a lot of brothers during that time period were on that pretty boy swag shit for the ladies. He always thought it was kind of feminine wearing an earring that's why he never got one. I have to agree (no disrespect to the pirateers running around with their hoops lol) but I guess today it's common as a form of fashion. Me personally I'll pass and I raised my son the same way but to each his own.

Co-sign. When I was in the military I had to take mine out before I went to work, otherwise I would get caught up by my supervisor. So it was a habit to take them out for the job. Now that I am in the corporate world I have decided not to deal with them all together. The shit is over rated anyway.

I waited until I was 27 to pierce my ear(just the left) 'cause I always associated it with either womanhood or pirates(which were probably homos) and I regret waiting so long! That shit upgraded my pussy intake 300%! That shit works better then any chain, bracelet, rings, or fronts(I'm 33 and fucked wit them in the early 90's) I've ever wore. I still think it's semi-homo to wear them in both ears(no offense pirate bgolers:rolleyes:), but some nice stones on the lobe will arouse the peacock factor in the oposite sex, real talk.

Warning: I also attribrute my earring aiding in initially attracting my wife....

OP i know you may not know us everyday ass ninjas out cha, but Mike been getting down like this....

Being 40 years old, I can tell you exactly when niggas started wearing two earrings.

It was in 1984, right after this video appeared on MTV. This was long before George Michael was caught on his knees in a public bathroom... and niggas were riding his nuts even harder than they ride Robin Thicke's nuts nowadays. Anyone who says differently is full of shit.

Flat the fuck out. :hmm:

I grew up during the 70's and 80's and dudes rocked earrings. What year were you born 1887?

Society is progressing to greater androgyny. From homosexuality to metrosexuality to sex changes to same-sex marriages. Soon, the majority of the population will be androgynous & it'll be totally acceptable to be both/either hetero- and/or homosexual. I think it's some sort of social evolution.

But Mike was rocking the onegold hoop with the diamonds...He didn't have two ears pierced then (if he does now)...
