The operator of a subway train that ground to a sudden stop when a woman fell between cars overlooked her body while searching the track bed -- and resumed the trip, running over her with six cars, The Post has learned.

Then 10 more trains also ran over her, according to a shocking report.

The tragedy unfolded as Arabell Lin, 25, who has a prosthetic right leg, was walking between the cars of a Coney Island-bound N train on March 28.

After she fell, she hit a device on one of the cars that triggers the emergency brake when the train encounters an obstruction.

HORROR: Arabell Lin (above) slipped between the cars of an N train near this location in Brooklyn, but was overlooked by a train operator in a quick track search.
The operator, whose name was not released, got out of the cab and spent seven minutes walking up and down the track, looking under each car for whatever caused the train to stop.

Then the operator climbed aboard and continued the trip.

Police interviewed the operator -- who reported having been unaware that someone was stuck under the train, according to law-enforcement officials.

MTA investigators who re-enacted the incident determined the operator had not spent enough time searching.

"If she was still alive, [he or she] messed up her chances," said one veteran train operator.

Lin had been walking between the fourth and fifth cars of the 10-car train when she slipped. After service resumed, 10 more trains passed over her horribly mangled remains before anyone noticed.

It was not clear when the original accident happened, but the body was discovered at about 3 p.m.

The tragedy occurred just north of the Kings Highway station, where the line runs below ground in an open cut where visibility presumably is better than in a tunnel.

Her body was in such bad shape that cops had to check missing-person reports to find out who she was.

Lin, who lived in Astoria and had attended SUNY Albany on a scholarship, had not been carrying identification.

Hours after the accident, MTA officials scrambled to test the 11 train crews for drugs and alcohol, with some rushed employees arriving at the testing facility in their pajamas, a source said.

No one tested positive.

The MTA eventually demoted the train operator, a 12-year veteran, to tower operator.

"Based upon the investigation of this accident, it was concluded that the train operator failed to properly investigate," a New York City Transit spokesman said.

Lin's classmates at Albany -- which she attended from 2004 to 2008 -- remember her as a smart young woman who participated in a slew of activities from the Asian-American Alliance to campus cleanups.

"She was very nice, I saw her in the library all the time," said former classmate Alice Forestal.

Her relatives could not be reached for comment.

She was cremated and buried at Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn in early April.

April? Exactly when did this happen?

we used to ride outside the car doors back in the day smoking cigarettes

Is it common to walk inbetween the cars on a train? We don't do that shit in Cali.

Very common in NYC. Hard to believe a woman with a prosthetic limb would do that, especially with how the trains sway as they get up to speed.

Almost as common as breathing. Certain lines don't allow you to walk in between though, doors are locked.

That's crazy. Is it like a pathway or what? What makes people comfortable enough to think they can try something like that without getting killed? I always thought between train cars there was a coupling and that's it.

Because of accidents like this, they cracked down on walking through the cars. Its a $75 dollar ticket just for walking through the doors.

If people would use a little common sense, this wouldn't happen and the MTA wouldn't have to criminalize something that's so common to NYer's everyday lives.

There's a slight ledge for you to step on outside of each door, still doesn't make it safe. But most NY'ers do it without much thought...just like jaywalking in large streets.

I don't do it too often anymore, but there are exceptions. Once I walked into a car, happy as fuck to get a seat because it was damn near empty. There was a homeless man sleeping at one end, and the smell was so strong I had to go to the next car.
:smh:

some nyc lines keep their doors shut
but with a prostectic limb she should never had tried that

No, they are called Cable Cars. Obviously you aren't from the city. And they only roll solo. You can walk from train to train on Bart though.

Well escuse me Rice o Roni boy! You're right though I'm from So. Cal...you know the place everyone is referring to when they say they want to go to Cali'...yeah that's where I'm from.

they lock the doors on some trains becuase those car make extra wide turns leaving a huge gap which is more dangerous than the some of the other cars on different lines.

You never seen any movie that show a passenger going from one subway car to the next...

rip, but that was a stupid move. how big is the space between cars? i know they usually keep them locked around here. but i rarely ride the train.

:smh:

on a really hot humid day, the subway was steamy as shit. the train pulled up and i needed to get into a car that had a/c. so the whole train was packed and one seemed empty. i rushed in and i took a huge whiff of the air inside and nearly threw up. then i saw the homeless guy and realized why that car was empty. then i waited for the next train.

Them niggas be stink enough to make you cry...literally...eyes start burning up and shit

did that walking between the cars thing once...wasn't comfortable...now i always take the 3rd or 4th car...for some reason they tend to have the most empty seats... but she had a fake leg...shouldn't have been tryin that shit...

lol

you know that making revenue is more important than keeping people safe

locking the doors would eliminate the problem completely
