***** OFFICIAL UFC 117 thread ~ Silva/Sonnen ~ Sat. August 7th, 2010 - Oakland

It's obvious from that interview that Anderson intended to win that fight with Nogueira Jiu Jitsu, NOT striking. At one point he had Chael rocked and instead of stepping back and teeing off on him, he went in for a shot on Chael. A win would not have been enough. He wanted to honor his dojo, by showing the worth of a Nogueira black belt. And he did just that.

Some of these statements are getting borderline rediculious. a lot of ya'll can't watch a lot of shit objectivly. Silva didn't stay on his back 90% of the fight cause he fucking wanted to. He was on his back cause he was put there. I'm sure he would rather have a KO win then loose from trying to get a Jiu Jitsu tap. GTFOH. If it was up to Silva it would've been a boxing match. Sonnen wasn't letting that happen cause he knew he wouldn't last a round boxin' with him so he controlled the fight with his wrestling. How is it that so many of ya'll can't see what really happened. Silva was getting his ass kicked and controlled. That was not his game plan and if it was, he and his camp are morons. He's lucky Sonnen has weak ass ground and pound or it would've been all over if he was on some Jon Jones type shit.

Ur man lost, he tapped like a bitch  He should've gone out like a G and fell asleep while allowing his arm to break.

That dude is not my man. I wanted Silva to win. I wanted him to win by KOing his ass though not getting a lucky triangle with 2 minutes left in a landslide fight. but yeah... keeping it real is refusing to tap and ending up with a broke arm... when keeping it real goes wrong lmao I bet if some of ya'll cats scored the fight on cards you would have 4 rounds Silva 1 Sonnen lmao.

First of all, what's ridiculous is you spelling. Secondly, if you read my comment objectively, you would have seen that I said It was Silva's plan to win by way of BJJ, not to be on his back 90% of the time. He knew he had busted ribs and was going in with an elite level wrestler. Obviously his stand up was impaired, so he opted for the finish that would be more likely -- on the ground. A fight plan and a fight choreography are not the same thing, son. Just because Anderson planned to fight more strategically from the ground, doesn't mean everything went as he planned it. You cats are in here awarding brownie points for effort, when in fact what matters is the end result of either man's effort. Chael's efforts led to him LOSING. Anderson's efforts led to him WINNING. And at the end of the night it was the loser who was physically and emotionally drained, not to mention bloody, battered and swollen. These are FACTS, kid. Fuck your conjecture. "Ass kicked" is a subjective term. But there was nothing subjective about being forced to tap to save yourself from being choked out and/or having your arm broken. Once again... These are facts. Deal with 'em.

I think it's bad enough when people talk about lucky pinches, but a lucky triangle submission...? How do you get lucky on a submission that requires so much skill & awareness??? Maybe you mean something else or just using the word lucky a lil too loosely, but performing a submission requires skill not luck. Plus y'all gotta take into account Silva had some problems with his ribs, which is why he was sluggish & not as explosive but still pulled off that victory.

did you really just try to correct my spelling with that same sentence having this beautiful testament to grammar: "First of all, what's ridiculous is you spelling." holla at me when you learn to add the "'re" homie and then we can talk. btw... i'll take grammar over spelling any day. I have spell check in the office for spelling. what do you have for grammar?... lmao when I speak you can't see spelling. you prob talk like Charles Barkley. but anyway, personal attacks aside, I agree with a good deal of what you said. however I for one will give credit where credit is due. credit for Anderson winning and credit for Chael winning every round easily. Its funny how everyone wants to use his ribs as an excuse when even he supposedly didn't. he took the fight and didn't postpone it. he still could've been more skillful avoiding all of those take-downs and keeping the fight standing up. you're acting like I wanted Chael to win. I wanted to see him get Glass Joe'd and was very disappointed that I didn't.

There's no such thing as a "lucky triangle" at this level of competition. The fact that you're so hard up for a KO that you can't appreciate a well set-up/executed submission, is ridiculous (). It's called MIX MARTIAL ARTS, not BOXING. KO's are not the only means of winning. Anderson won, straight up, on the strength of his endurance, poise and expertise, not luck, son.

Some of you cats funny talking about a LUCKY SUBMISSION. These cats been doing this shid all their life they can feel a lapse and exploit it. Its mostly muscle memory for these cats. There is a youtube of Silva fighting in Japan, this cat did a crouching tiger hidden dragon move on his azz got him in a leg lock and made him tap. Silva did not get up and fake the funk he congratulated the man took his loss and moved on....Sonnen is a bitch. He got caught with a shot lost his focus and the match. Silva is a skilled warrior arm chair quarter backs pretty or ugly he still won....:D

maybe go up in weight?

Silva could go up in weight and be a serious threat up there but I dont think he's strong enough. If a wrestler like Sonnen was able to do that to him think about what Rashad and others would do. Wouldn't be pretty. I'd love to see Jon Jones vs Silva though.

There's a difference between a typo an illiteracy, kid. 'Rediculious' is no typo. That's just a dumb nigga trying to use big words to sound smarter than he apparently is.

Winning rounds is irrelevant if you lose the fight. Chael can have all the credit you feel he deserves for winning rounds. I couldn't care less about that. My point is each man had a fight plan. Each man executed their fight plan. Only one man won: Anderson Silva. And your hankering for a KO is your own personal issue. Submissions happen. This is MMA. Mixed Martial Arts. :hmm:

idk if jon is ready but id love that.

that was ryo chonan in pride. that was some textbook shit you never expect to see in live competition.

i miss pride.

:(

So in your (notice no "'re", they're two different words) world "ridiculous" is a big word? my daughter knows that word and she's fucking 4. lmao whatever you say man. you win. and did I or did I not type that word? how is typing something wrong not a typo when you did the same shit and it is. you're starting to sound like blunt's never wrong ass and i'm good on battling over bullshit. I'm far from illiterate homie. I guarantee I'm more intelligent then at least 95% of people you know, likely including yourself so petty insults do nothing to lower my self esteem. try again.

you're right though... Silva executed his game plan perfectly. I'm sure it went down just as he envisioned... I know what MMA is. I'm a very big fan. I also know that Silva demolishes dudes on a normal basis and its usually standing up and making them look like a fool. It's just hard doing that lying on ur back the whole fight. good thing he pulled that Reggie Miller 8 points in 11 seconds though. perfectly planned and clutch at the buzzer.

There it is.

Actually he didn't back up his trash talk because he lost. lol The point of the fight wasn't to make a great effort, it was to win, and he lost.

You should at least give him some respect for the nice try... everyone else in the UFC respected Silva too much to go straight at him!!

More over compensating. The gentleman doth protest too much, methinks.

Idiot, a fight plan does not mean everything goes down as planned. Does an evacuation plan determine what a hurricane does, or what evacuees do in response to the hurricane to survive? Think, negro.

There you go again with the "perfectly planned"... Clearly you're in over your head in this conversation, cuz. You know nothing of MMA. Stick to telling 4 year old daughter stories. Your fight game stories are even less believable than those, kid.

For all you dudes defending Sonnen extra hard in here. Have you considered that Silva wanted to win by submission? Chael basically called out Noguiera jiujitsu and likened it to a "toy found at the bottom of a cereal box" I'm sure Silva felt he needed to defend the honor of his squad.

And with all the monumental shit talking Sonnen did only to get tapped out at the end it's hilarious that he has sooooo many defenders online. Shit is ridiculous. He put on a good show but he got tapped the fuck out.... deal with it.

You can't tell a fan boy anything. That fight could've easily been stopped at least twice.

I take it Brock fought a better fight then Carwin because he won even though he got his ass whopped the first round and it could've easily been stopped. these two fights weren't called for the exact same reason. the champs were the ones on their backs.

Yeah a winner is a winner but we know who fought a better fight. probably one of those cats who think Robert Horry was better then Karl Malone cause he has rings. lol gtfoh give respect when its due.

For all you calling Silva's submission luck, I suggest you watch the fight again and analyze what happen. Silva set that submission up with a stiff jab, you could immediately see Sonnen's attention shift to trying to protect himself from more of Anderson's strikes.

Think about that for a second... Silva was on his back and his strikes were still effective enough to warrant attention from Sonnen.. and the moment he shifted focus.. Anderson threw that leg over his shoulder and cinched it in.. :itsawrap:

Further more Sonnen has a history of getting caught, and Silva has a history of ending fights from anywheres.

Again, Sonnen lost! Sonnen lost to an injured Anderson Silva. Done.

You have to understand MMA, Sonnen did what wrestlers do, he put the man on his back and GNP him. Although wrestling is a great base, the drawback is many wrestlers have tough times finishing fighters. Anderson is a guy you MUST finish... On the flipside, BJJ artist have shitty takedowns but the danger of Jujitsu, it is often you will see a Jujitsu artist look to be in serious shit, but a BJJ artist only needs a few seconds to end a fight at any given time.

You put a wrestler in there with a BJJ artist 10 tens, 10/10 the wrestler puts the BJJ artist on his back, but the longer you let them stick around, the longer you are playing with fire..

I actually think Silva is stronger at 205..

Sonnen is easily on the level of Rashad in wrestling..In fact he has a better pedigree than Rashad.

You should at least give him some respect for the nice try... everyone else in the UFC respected Silva too much to go straight at him!!

wtf are you talking about. Quit buying white folks bullshit. Everyone came straight at him except for 1 or 2 guys, and they got fucked up as a result. It was a nice try. The fact is, he fought a guy with broken ribs and still lost. Meaning he didn't back up his talk.

yeah but he has 20 lbs less of muscle. although Sonnen is more relentless of a wrestler and Rashad sometimes stands too much Rashad has way more strength.

Watch the fight again, and tell me how silvas manipulation of the situation and precision when setting up the triangle/armbar was luck. That just makes me think ur an idiot, or you know nothing about martial arts or the sport.

They way he made Forrest look you may be right. That still amazes me how he was able to toy with forest like he was a child. That shit was sick...

1st round definitly if Sonnen push the pace it could have been stop.....that was a crucial part of the fight...I never seen Anderson so uncomfortable I was nervous as fuck...

even when Hendo and Lutter took him down he didn't seem bothered by it at all....

he fought a guy with broken ribs.

can we stop mythologizing the fight?

anderson silva didn't claim to have "broken" ribs. or even a broken rib.

he deserves a lot of credit for being patient, remaining composed, and executing.
